Oct 16 NY TimesHe is not traditionally speaking
the sort of man to make an offhand reference to the black-tie affair he
recently attended at the New York Public Library, as did Richard Breslaw of the
George Breslaw & Sons plumbing company in Manhattan. Mr. Breslaw recounted
how he charmed a young woman at the function by referring to his job as
the first thing you think about when you wake up. Long the object
of putdowns and distasteful humor Mr. Breslaw cited the classic If
you dont go to high school, guess what you become? plumbers
are, in many cases, exceedingly well paid. Mr. Breslaw said that one of his top
men clears two, maybe two-and-a-quarter every year. He even
paraphrased Einstein: If I had my life to live over again, Id be a
plumber. Its probably fair to say that plumbers like this are
not what the candidates had in mind. [WHY NOT??]Oct 2 American Spectator...a governor of Alaska has
to be more cosmopolitan in world outlook than her insular colleagues in the
lower 48. Surrounded as Alaska is by the seven Arctic nations (Canada,
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden) Alaska has a truly
strategic location, unmatched by any other U.S. state. It has a contiguous
boundary with Canada of 1,538 miles, but none with the lower 48. It is also
closer to the Russian Federation than any other U.S. state. There are no
international waters between Russia and Alaska.... Oct 5 Wash PostMcCain in Vietnam--In Ordeal as
Captive, Character Was ShapedOct 22 Jewish PressThe Jewish Press heartily
endorses John McCain for president of the United States.... has long been
the poster boy for what's made America great.... Sen. McCain is also being
linked to the current economic downturn, again because both he and President
Bush are Republicans. But as documented by the release of Sen. McCain's
correspondence file on Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, it was Sen. McCain who had
long been drawing attention to the excesses of the two agencies which
contributed so greatly to the current economic meltdown....If anything,
President Bush inherited a mess left by President Clinton... there is a
rather disturbing dimension to Sen. Obama.... From where we sit, Sen. Obama
emerges as a representative of the radical left, which does not accept the
notion of American exceptionalism and the presumptive validity of American
tradition. We recall his gratuitous ridicule of those middle Americans who,
supposedly out of frustration, "cling to their religion and their
guns...."Oct 15 ComputerworldMcCain's campaign sent a letter

the global financial crisis on a government push to make housing more
affordable to lower-class Americans has taken off on talk radio and e-mail....
Federal housing data reveal that the charges aren't true, and that the

behind the soaring subprime lending at the core of the crisis....Oct 12 APRepublican John McCain
