Dave in Texas (RIP) 2006
Several years ago my wife conceived a plan to take over Christmas decorations in our home. She’s been very patient, moving so carefully that I only realized the scope of her plan this year. This fight isn’t over, not by a long shot. But I’ve lost a lot of ground.

Happy Christmas to all!
I’m not sure how much of a happy Christmas I’ll have since I’m saddled with a nasty head cold and dare not venture outside in this biting cold to visit my parents.
Instead, I’ll spend the morning finishing up the copy for this year’s 10 Most Tiresome People column while taking breaks for the occasional sneezing seizures, or as I like to call them, sneezures, that are so explosive that I scare the cat. Then I’ll park myself on the couch under warm fleece and watch TV.
Woo-hoo! Do I know how to make merry, or what?!
A Happy What??

Our Nation is Forged At Trenton
It is impossible to overstate the importance of the Continental Army’s stunning victory this day in 1776 at the Battle of Trenton. On December 1, 1776, virtually everyone thought the American Revolution over and the American cause lost. All that remained was for the formal negotiation of the colonial surrender.
But George Washington, a man with titanium cajones and inhuman persistence, was not willing to concede defeat. He developed a plan that was one of the most audacious in history — or as he called it, code name “Victory or Death.”

Some fluffy observations
For example, for what it’s worth, there’s the falling-into-water motif… Also, I’ve become aware of several of the characters’ comments in the film about one another’s stupidity.…
