"November" derives from ancient Babylonian, 'novambrium,' transliterated as "bright star of illuminated lightedness," an approximate translation might be, "No wonder!" Of course I just made that up, but it's better than saying the same thing about the four *-ber months: another holdover from the old calendar, "November" meant the ninth month, until it became the eleventh month but kept the name. Cut, paste, edit for December.
