20 Chaldean Iraqi Christians Who Fled ISIS Detained by Immigration
Ray Norhstine, Christian Post Sun 2015-Jul-12 9:47am

Despite having family members to sponsor them, a group of 20 Chaldean Christians who fled ISIS have been detained for over four months at the Otay Detention Facility in San Diego. The large Chaldean community in Southern California are unhappy with the unexplained delays and are demanding their release.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) claim they are undermanned and face a backlog of cases but have offered little to the media about the prolonged detention of the Chaldean 20.

No Defense Against a Host of Ills
AllenG, Ace of Spades Wed 2015-Jul-1 7:05am

…the primary reason I'm against government sanction of homosexual relationships. Once you assert that marriage is something mankind just made up and could have made however we wished, then there is no defense against a whole host of ills: polyamory, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, necrophilia. Every perverted, abhorrent thing becomes not just "tolerated" (even those things, such as pedophilia, which should not even be tolerated), but celebrated.

The societal consequences will be enormous, whatever the idiots say. Yes, it will hurt the institution of marriage. Yes, it will hurt children. Yes, it will hurt society. Just because you can't see it yet doesn't mean it won't do it.

Rachel Nuwer, Smithsonian Wed 2015-Jul-1 7:13am

Pappochelys is critical for understanding “a new stage in the evolution of the turtle body plan,” the researchers write. Prior to this discovery, a 220-million-year-old specimen from China, which displayed a partly formed shell and other turtle-like features, was the closest thing experts had to a seemingly sure-fire turtle relative. Other specimens, including a 260-million-year-old fossil from South Africa, were hypothesized to represent an even earlier turtle ancestor, but with such a large temporal gap separating them from the China specimen, researchers could not say for sure. Morphologically and chronologically, Pappochelys fits neatly between the two specimens, tying them together.…

A federal judge in Oklahoma has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a prominent atheist organization that sought to challenge the presence of a Ten Commandments monument in the state capital.

American Atheists, based in New Jersey, had filed the legal challenge on behalf of a woman who complained about its installment on the grounds of the Oklahoma capitol building. Oklahoma to Exit Marriage Business?
TJ Martinell, Tenth Amendment Center Thu 2015-Mar-5 3:40pm

[Oklahoma] HB1125 would accomplish two things.

First, it would render void the edicts of federal judges that have overturned state laws defining marriage. The founding generation never envisioned unelected judges issuing ex cathedra pronouncements regarding the definition of social institutions like marriage and the Constitution delegates the federal judiciary no authority to meddle in the issue. Marriage is a realm clearly left to the state and the people..

Second, the bill would get the state government out of defining marriage entirely as well, ending the squabble between factions that seek to harness the power of the state, thereby taking the burden off government officials who may be torn between what is legally required of them and their religious convictions.

The intent or motives behind this bill are a moot point. By removing the state from the equation, no one can force another to accept their marriage, nor can they force another to reject that person’s own beliefs regarding an institution older than government.

The real problem, it seems to me, is not merely the widespread phenomenon of “Peter Pan Syndrome,” but that (a) young women unwittingly enable such male immaturity because (b) they miscalculate the economics of love, and therefore (c) they waste one of a woman’s most valuable resources, her youth.…
