My eyelids were drooping, and the various topics in comments were starting to blur together - something about sending flowers to Michelle Fields? - and I was going to give up when suddenly...

I smell cookies! Milady just pulled a batch of banana-chocolate chip cookies out of the oven. New experimental recipe. Mmmmmm. Gotta stay up to sample one... or two...

Howdy, whoever's here.

Weirdest thing happened to me this morning. On all the electronic devices, the clocks were an hour off. Some kind of computer glitch, I guess.

Must've happened to the guy on the radio, because on the drive home, he thought it was midnight already and it's only 11. Maybe it's a virus gone viral?

Sure hope this can be fixed.

I would have a Guiness, but we don't have any, and it's Oklahoma on Sunday, so I can't get any. Tecate it is, then.

I'm not Irish, but my wife and in-laws certainly are. So, I checked out the article on Chicago Irish bars. Never went to any of the bars listed, and none of the Irish bars we went to were on the list.

Of course, we moved away over twenty years ago. Lot of changes since then.

Second gal looks too posed-as-a-hippie to me. Does she even play guitar?

But, oh! first gal, elfin-face, is a heartbreaker.

Sometimes I think it's best if I just didn't comment and only read the comments. Usually, whatever I have to ask is answered before I get my question out, and whatever I have to add, someone else has already remarked. Usually said better than I would.

I come here to read not to be read anyway. (Read "reed" and read "red" - what other word is spelled the same in different tenses?)

Anna Puma: Moron written books

I appreciate your posting this list. Do it often. For us slow-on-the-uptake types. I'm still not much back into reading - the past two weeks have been mostly AoS threads and news - but I keep meaning to investigate every Moron-written book. Eventually.

What about ... dang! can't recall the author's name or the title... set in a town in Texas?

See? This is why I appreciate your list.

So there I was, wandering alone in the morning thread when I realized why.

That's... some library! Looked it up...

In 1924 J. P. Morgan, Jr. gave his father's extraordinary library to the public. The most influential financier in this country's history, Pierpont Morgan was also a voracious collector. He bought on an astonishing scale, collecting art objects in virtually every medium, including the rare books, manuscripts, drawings, prints, and ancient artifacts that are the core of The Morgan Library & Museum's holdings.

Says their website.

J.J. Sefton: ...when I was music director at WBCR Brooklyn College Radio)...

What th...? I DJ'd and news directed at WBCR - Beloit College Radio. 88.1FM - where you sometimes come across as TV channel 6 audio! Once an experimental early station ("since 1907"), heard as far away as New Mexico, but reduced in my day to a mighty 25 watts. "With a good Northern wind, could be heard in Rockford!"

I'd always thought call letters were supposed to be unique. Yet a quick search also turns up

WBCR Truth Radio 1470 - Blount County Tennessee
WBCR-LP 97.7FM Community Radio in the Berkshires
WBCR AM Brooklyn College Radio

Weird: The clock on the mantle, which has not been adjusted for Government Interference Time, shows that sunrise occurred at pretty much the same time as yesterday. No time was actually saved or lost. How can that be?

Morning, y'all. Coffee's ready.

Late to the Pet Thread again. But here's another pet tail.

If we can't discuss politics here, how can I tell you about how we acquired our cats Bernie and Hillary?

Don't think I've told the tale on Ace. Did once last year on Zilla's blog, but it seems to have vanished.

To get home from town, we usually just take the old road, a straight shot south a few miles.

One night, in 2002 or maybe 2003, Milady and I and our daughter took the back way home, even though it was, like, two in the morning. This route involves driving all the way west across town, South down the back highway, then taking the winding road east from there.

As far as we knew, we just decided we wanted to take the scenic route for the variety. Little did we know, it was Fate.

Just past where we turned off the back highway onto the wind-y road, there, on the side of the road, we saw a small cardboard box, on its side, and then saw, sitting in front of the opening, two tiny gray kittens. Plainly, they'd been thrown out in that box, which they sat near, mewing innocently. In a short time, they'd've been roadkill or wild beast food.

Although we already had a slew of cats at home, of course, we scooped them up and took them in.

We're down to "only" four cats at home these days (five total, counting the one in town). Those two faithful and brilliant gray cats are the Old Timers.

She's a delicate creature, although a good hunter, so the local vermin don't think she's so sweet.

He's the most laid-back cat ever, fearless of dogs, even Out of Town Son's two crazy gals when they nose right up to him. We think he thinks he is a dog, sometimes. He and The Dog are often asking to go out or come in together. Like right now, in fact.

I was kidding about the names. He's Spark and she's Spirit.

Here's a picture of Spirit from 2013, causing cat-a-lapsy.

Went off to read the Overheard at Wal-Mart and bad parental texting articles, and blog those and another item, texted (not badly) with daughter, chatted with Milady, and came back expecting there to be another thread. Huh.

Early morning thread becoming late morning and (Eastern time) early afternoon thread, eh?

Hasn't everything been said three times over by now?

Better to hear it.

Thanks for the vid link, Tim in Illinois. Haven't listened yet, but did sorta grok what was said from comments here.

As Lady in Black said, 2nd stupid Cruz statement in a week. Imprudent and impolitic. The candidates seem so focused on attacking each other, they forget who the real main enemy is!

But in a time packed with stupid, imprudent, impolitic politicians, Cruz gets knocked down two notches and still stands above the others as Presidential. Sad times, though, all around.

Hey, howdy, y'all.

I'm only about 1/2-way through reading the comments, but have to ask.

About the canceled Trump rally in Chicago, folks have commented about what Rubio and Cruz said about it, but I didn't see quote or link to what they said. What did they say?

I read the whole ABC7 article someone linked about the thing. Does sound like it was already going out of control. "The police, they don't seem to be doing anything to get anyone out of here, so everyone in the parking garage started to get weapons out of their car, they're ready to fight," said a caller....

This is going to be a long (checks JJ's countdown) 241 days!

The protesters planning to disrupt the rally in the name of diversity and (as one gal said) "love" is really the height of hypocrisy - typical. I'd say what I think these guys seem like but I hate to go Godwin this early in the morning.

Post-parting thought, listening to Levin's show...

Why is it bagpipes are the most annoying instrument ever invented by humankind...

...but bagpipes playing Amazing Grace is the most heart-wrenching sound?

Really enjoying listening to Levin's reminiscences of Reagan tonight.

Let's try it again.

Going to crawl under the covers, perchance to dream.

Aloha.
