But at least we have a morning thread and Vic today. Yay. It's morning thread in America again.

Wednesday Weirdness:
We've already been Vic-free the past couple of days. That's unsettling enough.
Then, yesterday, we had no morning thread, just went directly from the overnight to the headlines. Remember? Well...
Yesterday, I went to look at something in the headlines thread and it was missing. In the "recent entries" list in the left-hand column on the front page, there was the Overnight, there was the Art thread, but no Headline post in between. Wasn't there in the "next" link on the Overnight page-without-comments, either.
So I turned to the February archives.

At first it didn't seem to be there, either, but 'way down this list, you can find "Wednesday News Dump 2/17/16 [Misanthropic Humanitarian]" in between "Morning Thread (2-16-2015)" and "Tuesday Morning News Dump 2/16/16 [Misanthropic Humanitarian]." That's what the previous/next links say on the post-only not-the-comments versions as well.

For no reason I can figure out. It's not the post number. It's just... down there. In case anybody was looking.
Morning (whatever morning the hamsters think it is), Glories!
I didn't get the Chomsky part. Milady suggested, it's like, "socialism has never been done right."
Oh. I guess I'm not smart.
Goon dight, leddies and germs. I'm off to the bedd.
"In God, man lives, moves, and has his being; there is nothing which man can give to God except this choosing to abide by the Father's will...."
Not Ray Croc... Kroc!!!
qdpsteve: ...McD's is going to start offering... table service....
With what, robots?
And I'm sure McD's patrons will be big tippers.
Cloth napkins, candles on the table, pinkys out, munching greaseburger and fries. "Such veddy nice se'vice, at this fine establishment!"
Folks like Hopper, Cage, Jim Carrey, they always seem to be playing themselves, or, at least, the same character. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't because you're sitting there thinking about the actor not the character.
Bill Murray always plays the same character and it always works. How is that?
Sugar Plum Fairy: Started reading Sam Walton's autobiography Made In America, today....
I started reading that years ago. Always meant to get back to it. I remember him saying that Big City reporters were surprised at his simple life, expecting to see "hoochie coochie girls down by the swimming pool."
Another good businessman book I did read (I think) long ago was Ray Croc's talking about starting (rather, taking over and expanding) McD's. Said something like, we don't sell burgers. We own the land under the restaurants. (Also the grain farms, cattle ranches...).
How both of them must spin in their graves to see their businesses today!

Ah, home. Where pantslessness is possible.
qdpsteve: Easy Rider? ... (b) the ending, besides being a complete downer, is quite jarring the first time you see it.
Saw it original run in theater. Jarring, yes indeed.
Never had a desire to see it again, because that alone.
Whole lotta shakin'-out goin' on!
Howdy, gang of Morons.
Wait, I'll be right back. Gotta go home.

Sure sure, I make a cute comment about how there's just going to be one thread until Ace this morning, and when I look, you ruin my joke.
Translated with my decoder ring:
Be sure to drink your Haseltine.
One thread to overrule them all
One thread to bind us
One thread til Ace awakes
And in the barrel find us
Buzzsaw: This thread is starting to smell of overly tenderized dead horse.
CBD: I always make pulled pork with it......
Wait, what? Maybe I'm reading too fast...?

BackwardsBoy: Yeah, but why is evil always winning these days?
Making the most smoke and noise is not "winning."
Witness the referenced comments that generated this theological question. TSF posts many time with the same one note. Oddly, "saying something loud enough and often enough" is not convincing, at least on here. But Seamus's one gem of sarcastic retort? Winning!
![]()
A theological observation.
Some wonder why the Creators allowed good and evil not so good to co-exist in the universe.
Example:
On the one hand we have the mind-numbing repetitiousness of the TSF one-note comments.
But, without that, we would not have had Seamus's brilliant, classic response at #251.
Praise de Lawd!
Since the matter was mentioned... a mindful video webwork from back in Oct 2012:
Lazy Man (1:01)
Why would anyone think he's lazy?
(Watch Michelle laugh when he says he's hard-working.)
chemjeff: has anyone heard from jewells45 yesterday or this morning?
Was wondering the same. Read her saying she was going into surgery, but wasn't sure exactly what for.
Mr Macca Bean: We used to make joke about the Poles.
We owe them years worth of apologies....
Polack jokes generally took a fast fade - and certainly in my case ended forever - after a certain Pope, and Lech Walesa, helped start the cascade that ended the USSR. I was laughing, but with them, not at them.
Max Rockatansky: Youre such a dumbfuck. Obama didn't do those things....
Correct form for debating is more like "your opinion on this is dumbfuckery" - avoid ad hominem, right?
Other than that, glad you noted what you did, because I thought it but wasn't going to say anything.
Chi: AllenG,
I think it would stand you in good stead if you started the interviews with your standard phrase.
Burn, salt, scatter...
And, of course, don't wear pants.
Ah, yes, following that sage old advice, "just be yourself."
The guy shot while trying to get in through the doggie door... hit in the face, treated, and in jail? What'd the homeowner do, hit him in the ear? If ever there was a case of shooting fish in a barrel...!?!
(Kidding - nothing quite as aim-off-putting as a raving lunatic trying to break in, I'm sure.)
On that topic... two NRA videos, Tips & Tactics, S6, Cat & Whitney Potgeter:
Ep 15: Defensive Shooting Techniques

Ep 16: Common Kneeling Positions

And if we had a doggie door, our dog would wear it out.
