The nearly-full moon was still up when I got up. Next time I looked out, it was dark. Now it's starting to get light again, but not yet as bright as it was an hour and a half ago.

Feelthe Bern on Face the Nation: Gun control is a job for federal office-holders rather than state governments

I'm shocked... shocked! that Bern is a big gov gun-grabber. Who could've guessed?

The Great White Scotsman: It really isn't about the law, it is about choices. It let's the business owner know that by making the decision to create a gun free zone he has taken complete responsibility...

Um, uh, well, as I understand it, there's a law proposed to impose liability on the "gun-free" business because a customer was dumb enough to go there. So, it is entirely "about the law."

rickb223: You restrict my right to self defense, you assume the liability.

While I'm amused by the proposed Tennessee law, I have a problem with this.

If you are required to go somewhere that restricts guns, sure, they're liable in case of problems deriving therefrom - but you are not required to go to any "gun-free zone" restaurant or theater. Don't like their policy? Just don't go there. Otherwise, you accept their rules and the dangers inherent.

The only places I can think of that one might be required to go without self-defense would be government offices. And you know what they say about fighting city hall.

It's that kind of election year!

Vic: I have java defeated on my machine.

To be technically nit-picky, javascript is not Java™.

Although it's wise to run with both turned off. Well, actually, javascript turned off and Java not installed....

Why these two different things have similar names is somebody's fault and they should be thrashed thoroughly.

Tim in GA: If a site requires Javascript enabled to load and function, I bail.

I've made an exception a few times for PJ Media. But only them.

It seems to me a fairly new development to require javascript to see any content at all. Awfully stupid. There's a reason HTML was invented.

Ace, please don't "upgrade" to that kind of thing!!!

Morning, Glories!

I'm smiling and happy, as ordered.

A mild 45°F here in NE Okla, heading up to... um... 46 today. ?? Temperature just forgot to drop last night.

But, back to nights in the 20s this week. OTOH, 60s next weekend.

I'll suffer through somehow.

Good round-up, Vic. I'm sure that deportations article is wrong. My Hillary-supporting in-law insists O has deported more than all Presidents combined - everybody and his goat.

Chi, I see two issues.

1) You want to help the guy.

2) You could use the money.

It was suggested to you in a way that conflated the two issues. Now, separate them instead.

If you can help the guy in any other way, do what you can. But renting to him? Too risky.

If you see a way to make money renting, take the good advice above about finding good tenants.

Oh, the experiences I could relate, both in "helping" friends who nearly ruined me, and in 14 years of being an evil landlord in Chicago. My advice, nonetheless, is worth 25% of what you paid for it.

AAAANNND with that, I'm heading for dreamland. Perchance to sleep.

Good night, Gracies!

And did you ever notice that the character singing "New York, New York" isn't actually in New York? "These little town blues are bringing me down" and "I'm leaving today."

It's all big-city fantasizing by some hick. Just wait 'til he gets there. Mugged in the subway the first night. Living on the streets by the 2nd week. Make it there? Sure, bud, sure.

The polls are all over the place, if you've noticed. Yeah, Trump is consistently in the lead, but by how much and how everyone else lines up varies, a lot.

Besides polls tending to be "push," and results being what the folks who paid for the poll want, there's 'nother thang.

'Way back when, Walt "Pogo" Kelly wrote about this.

Whenever newspapers wanted to change up the comic strips, they'd poll their readers, and Pogo would consistently come out on the bottom.

The newspaper would drop Pogo. And that's when the great silent Pogo majority would send up a howl and get Pogo re-instated.

It's who answers polls as well as everything else.

The vote is the only poll that will matter.

Oh, um, if democracy were allowed to work. But alas...

Jim: Sort of like John Lennon saying the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.

Sort of... except that John wasn't bragging, he was kind-of appalled, as I recall.

I've said this before in relation to Trumps "shooting somebody" comment: Isn't this about the same as what folks have been saying on here for years about the Obama cultists, that he could murder a baby on live tv and still be unimpeachable?

So, yeah, just what we need, another cult leader prez.

Iowa ethanol poll: Did they poll voters, or did they poll, you know, the folks who matter, the people with big bucks who have a vested interest in ethanol?
