Ignoramus: didn't Clinton acolyte Sand Berger steal a lot of relevant classified documents I the run-up to the 9/11 Commission investigation?

See #79.

There's still patches of 2015 on the ground on the north sides of trees here that haven't melted yet.

I'm wondering how this ties in with the Muldoon Shy Heat Theorum.

New Madrid... First read about the possible effects of "if it happened today" some forty years ago. I think the article said they thought it likely to happen in the next 50 years...

Article was in the Chicago Tribune. Said the old sandy shores around Lake Michigan would, basically, "liquify," and any structures not properly constructed would become uninhabitable. Not to mention all the infrastructure ruined, gas lines rupturing, water lines broken, roads unnavigable. And that's just Chicago, hundreds of miles from the epicenter.

About the only place to ride it out in Chicago? Top of the Hancock, built with whatchacall rolling caissons (?) and shock-absorber base. (I've been up there when it's just wobbling in the wind; it's weird.) Of course, you would lose power, and be surrounded by devastation, but at least you'd be okay while the booze held out.

So Glad I Asked Dept.

BurtTC: On which side of the equator?

VIA: Laden, or unladen?

Kindltot: Transparent in which frequencies?

Pappy O'Daniel: ...infrared, or visible? Also, what's the heat conductivity of the differing materials?

Sigh! That's the problem with scientific inquiry... always end up with more questions than answers.

OTOH.. sometimes you get an outstanding theoretical:

Seamus: ...if subjected to the visual scrutiny of total strangers, by way of a transparent mug, would retreat to the safety of the innermost center of the liquid coffee, thus delaying the loss of heat and resulting in longer time to equalization with the ambient surroundings.

The science is settled!

Meanwhile...

Tim in Illinois: Short answer. No. Long Answer. Yes*
*Ask me if you don't understand the asterisk.

I think I understand the asterisk. I'm still having trouble understanding umlauts and carets, though.

BurtTC: All I know of Ariana Grande: 1.. 2.. 3.. 4...

Wow, that's three things more than I knew. And until the donut shop thing, I would've guessed Ariana Grande was either the name of some mountain, or a coffee beverage at Starbux.

Stupid? No.

Well, of course, by "stupid," I was only referring to the one cat's move of wandering off just as the food was served.

Ours is a working arrangement, though. This old barn is not as varmit-proof as I'd like, and we get the occasional rodent intruder. That's when the cats earn their keep.

Plus, lately, Yeller feller has been serving as an alarm clock at sunrise....

81 But there is proof that he did a lot of very stupid things that made 9/11 much more likely to happen.

Heh... Tim and TP maybe missed the Sandy Burglar tagline sarc? Well, it's early in the a.m.

Bruce #19: Has the barrel, at the very least, been cleaned for the New Year?

First chuckle of the day.

Yeah, sure, they threw a de-oderizer pine tree in there.

It dissolved in a puff of acrid smoke.

Morning, Glories!

When I'm preparing the food for my four-legged friends, the four cats all wander around my feet, licking themselves or each other, but anxiously waiting to be fed.

When the food is prepped, the cats go to their usual individual feeding stations... except one. Miss Gray has taken to running off at that point.

I just cover her food, and if she and I both happen to be back there at the same time later, I'll give it to her. Otherwise, tough luck, dummy.

Stupid Cat is Stupid.

Well, I can't get into any of this (it's not you, it's me... or maybe it's that guy over there)... so I'll leave you with this.

If you look at the December archives for AoS,

the headline beginning "In Briefing for Columnists," has an open-italics, but fails on close-italics. All the rest of the post headings are italicized.

Evening, OverNighters.

Been a good first day of the year for me. Didn't do much early but hang out online, especially here. Had a good nap. Had black-eye peas and cornbread with Milady and daughter. Talked to my mom. Watched the end of 20,000 Leagues while drinking egg nog left from last night (good recipe!).

And found the ONT.

BackwardsBoy: [Dr Pepper]...Primary ingredient = prune juice.

Not for many decades, I reckon.

Back in the early '70s, in college in Wisconsin, my frat bros were appalled that the boy from Oklahoma mixed Bacardi 'n DP. Did I care?

Might've still been made with a bit of prune back then.

...This is why I'm not a big fan of open carry. I suppose if everyone, or a majority of the population, were carrying openly then it might not be such an issue, but when only scattered people are carrying openly it puts a target on their back.

And how does one get to "everyone, or a majority," without first going through the "only scattered people" stage, hmmm?
