Been reading news & news-related commentary all morning. Hard & harsh.

Finally arrived at BoB's place.

What a relief!

* kicks off shoes, settles into comfy chair *

Think I'll stay here among the funny faces for a while.

Democrat National Convention in a Nutshell…

Shouldn't that include "booing God"?

Pete, in your news posts, you tie a lot of threads together, re-framing and presenting inter-related matters. Your being so good at this requires sifting through more than you post about, weaving among the Narrative-Spinners, staying current, for our benefit.

Much appreciated, so, don't let the news burden you. Consider your news posts one of those vital "dirty jobs" only he-men can do.

:D

Republican Senators are planning on keeping the details of their Obamacare replacement bill secret

Yeah, yeah.

How hard is it to "repeal and replace"? This hard:

"All that stuff we passed as Obamacare is here and now repealed!"

MISS OLIVIA IS PLAYING BASEBALL THIS YEAR.TRIED TO CATCH IT WITH HER HEAD.

Yowch! At first glance, I thought those were stitches, but… that looks like… that's the stitching on a baseball imprinted on her noggin, right?

She should go out for soccer, where heading the ball is something you're supposed to do. (He said, painfully remembering other places the soccer ball hit.) :D

bob: I keep wondering which side I will take after

Yes indeed. My mom may be pushing a century, but Dad only got half a century.

On the plus side, I'm already almost fifteen years older than he ever got to be. Which, really, is kind-of weird.

I subscribe to my mom's philosophy: I just want to see what happens next. :D

The past is a foreign country!

♫ "You've got your own cigarette now baby/
You've come a long, long *cough hack wheeze * waaay" ♫

I was too small to even be "playing with matches," when I fished one of my mom's cig butts out of an ashtray and lit it up and took a hit.

Cig butt. Menthol!

There was never any danger, after that, of my getting hooked on tobacco!

One plus on moving back to Oklahoma was to be near Mom, but it was hard to take our kids to her smoky house. Not long after that, Mom got all wheezy and it scared her, so she just gave up smoking. After fifty years. (That's WILLPOWER!)

Hah. "Why didn't anyone tell me what a nasty habit it was?" she jokes.

Twenty-two years later, we're glad she quit. Now she spends two days a week working out at the gym. We're gathering later this month to celebrate her 97th birthday. And her breathing's fine.

Sure hope I got part of that chromosome.

There will always be more weird news.

There will never be but one Chuck Shepherd delivering it.

Figure I've followed you most of the past three decades. Time flies, eh?

Slylock Fox: I notice the animal-world computer input devices have been reduced to a one-button mouse – in fairness, no doubt, to the non-abled snakes – and the mouse probably has no rollaround pointer input, just that one button. Wonder how Weirdly (or anyone) expected to input a password, anyway.

PS: Great comments from some Morons at Ace of Spades this morning, summarized and rephrased from memory:

The most horrifying aspect of the picture is... Kathy Gryffon's face.

Somewhere between anorexia and meth.

Just tuned in to PN, and found this. Pistol Pete v Kathy Griffin.

Even before reading, the mind reels at PoliNation's Master of Political Whiplasshery v. the Witless Thug Comediennnee.

Have I mentioned lately how much I like this blog? Can't say it often enough.

As often happens, if you asked me who was Kathy Griffen (Giffen, whatever), I might've guessed some lefty outlet "reporter," but didn't really know.

Now, forever associated with her ISIS kin. If I was still in the webworking business, the photomanips I might do…! …although I read that many of the obvious reworkings have already been uploaded. Like, same pic, Kathy in a burka, et al.

Country Boy: Can you give us an idea of how much past 29 your daughter might be?
'Cause 29 would be nice, but probably too young.

Hah! You age-ist!

Well, that would be telling; ladies' ages and all.

But if you'll haul out your history of America and calculator, she was born the summer after Reagan took office.

Tammy al-Thor #475: I am a natural-born matchmaker and I cannot tell you how insane it drives me that these people do not try and contact one another....

Doesn't always work, but don't stop trying. Matchmakers are invaluable. People don't know what they want, or who's right for them, nor how to say yes to a good deal. People will make the worst choices.

Matchmakers are heaven's agents.

Captain Whitebread #450: on second thought, maybe not. Having doubts lately that I'm even boyfriend material.

Me, too, y' big dumb lug. What a downer-boy.

My daughter knows I've talked her up on here, now and then - she respects the Moron-and-ettes horde a lot, as I do. Maybe I shouldn't be talking about her here, as I do, but...

But I mention this because, she's older, looking for solid, but fed up with the chase, tired of the crazies and the lefties and the jus-wanna-hook-ups. Just because she was serious about holy matrimony doesn't mean her ex-husband was. It's hard out there for serious people.

Sound familiar? I read it all the time here on the blog.

Heh -- Cap'n, I'd've thought you'd seen me mention this before.

Presumably you're not interested in my son.

The daughter is mble 29 (of course), occasional AoS commenter, ballet dancer, Constitutional thinker. Makes great sandwiches. Further resume, deposit 10¢.

Any potential suitor must be willing to accept me as absolute monarch of the family. Like I said, serious drawbacks. *waves back-scratcher imperiously*

Is it AoSHQ Memorial Weekend Lonely Hearts and Dating Advice Service? (50th anniversary of its release!)

Because I've still got a daughter and a son* to pawn off on some suckers looking for decent (or, at least, tolerably less crazy) mates in the swirling cesspool of Availables.

*Of course, they each come with a significant drawback: the mindful webworker as father-in-law.
