FenelonSpoke: My Rep said no and he sent me a detailed e-mail why.

Good morning, FS - Merry Almost Christmas

Ours didn't send anything to me personally, but he did a YouTube explaining his No vote.

Five congressmen, two Senators, all nominally Republican, in an allegedly conservative state, and only our guy voted No.

Cloyd, feel free to cut loose on the rest of 'em!

Let's try this again with a non-blocked IP...

Morning, Glories! Sunrise and clear skies here in magnificent NE OK, where at least our Rep, the only one in Okla to do so, said "no!" FWIW. Thank you, Jim.

Um... hello, again.

I got overloaded a while back, on- and off-line, and among many other things I had to set aside was this garden path. I may or may not be back regularly, but I'm here at the moment. Belated Happy Thanksgiving and early Merry Christmas.

Being as I'm 236 posts and 826 comments behind on PoliNation - not counting today's - I probably won't be getting caught up on it all. Hate to think of all I've missed!

Bad Lip Readings are usually pretty funny, but since I care not one bit about Star Wars, I wasn't going to watch the Star Wars BLRs, but since they were recommended here, I've downloaded them to watch in a few minutes. See what you all are already doing to me. Again!

Of five congressmen and the two Senators from Oklahoma, nominal "Republicans" all, only one said he'd vote "No" on the gazillion dollar sellout, for various reasons but especially Planned Parenthood funding. That's our man Jim Bridenstein, and he was the only "No" vote from this supposed Republican enclave. Thank you, Jim, and the rest of you - pthhhbbbth! It's not easy being in one of the last enclaves of civilization, but I sure like it here.

Regarding O's "non-traditional" SotU address, on another blog this morning, I commented, I suppose it's too much to hope that it involves ritual seppuku. But, no, that would take guts. And as another commenter replied, shame and honor, of which of course O has none.

Missed y'all. Nice to see you're still going strong, especially Pete's posts.

Alas, I also expect our two "Republican" Senators, the old venerable Inhofe and the new RINOish Lankford, to be voting Yay [sic] on the bill, as well.

It doesn't really count as a double posting if you add a paragraph, right?

OT too soon? I just want to say, our congresscritter was the only Oklahoma congresscritter to vote NO to the omnivorous bill. "Republicans" all.

Thank you, Jim Bridenstein. It's not easy, living in one of the last outposts of civilization.

Anybody tell Ace how to spell San Bernardino? (headline)

(I wouldn't know, myself, except for some pedant in comments shortly after the attack.)

FenelonSpoke, saw late that you had asked about my dad, who shares your bdy yesterday. I mentioned he would've been 98, but has been gone for 48 years.

There were things not to be proud of, which resulted in mom divorcing him. I didn't understand that much when I was 12. That damage to our family lives on, generations later.

But he was, seems to me, not a bad man, just a foolish one.

His proudest role was as GOP chairman from Oklahoma. Back then, the state was hard Democrat (like most Southern states then). The GOP, like the GOPe today, was not so much interested in winning as in the power and profit from being the loser party.

Dad worked on a door-to-door county-wide get-out-the-vote campaign ("we'd like you to vote Republican, but mainly we want you to vote" was the slogan) that turned brought him to the attention of the state GOP. Despite them (as he once told me), he managed to turn the state around, and get our first Republican governor elected. The state GOP has been strong ever since, despite its infections of RINO-itis. (His work merited a whole chapter in Gov Bellmon's biography.)

My brother once wrote Nixon, asking if he recalled our Dad. Nixon sent back a signed copy of his latest book, with the note that he was sorry our Dad hadn't lived to see "our victory in 1968." (My cynical thought was, yeah, but if he had lived, Nixon's resignation probably would've killed him!)

I never got to know my dad as an adult. He was stern, too quick to anger (although I only got The Belt once), but generous and loving in my memory. I miss him.

Gov Bellmon went on to the Senate, where he was deeply disappointed, coming from a state that worked to a body that didn't. The GOP, and DC in general, may be truly hopeless today, but knowing Dad's work is the reason I haven't given up yet. That, and my super belief in the triumph of "truth, justice, and the American way."

With that, I'm going to head offline for a while.

So, neither house of Congress has voted yet on the gazillion dollar budget bill, izzat right? The way it's been talked about, seemed like it had already been passed.

My congresscritter, who will be appearing in Tulsa next week with Ted Cruz, has explained he will vote against it, if only for Planned de-Parenthood. That's one....

In Frank Miller's classic graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns, there's a panel where the President is delivering a speech about a nuclear threat, saying that there's nothing to worry about... while he's wearing a hazmat suit.

That's what I think of when Obama tells us there's no credible terrorism threat... before jetting off to Hawaii.

Police had to fire warning shots into the air when thousands of Dutch protestors stormed the site of a planned asylum centre, shortly to open for 1,500 refugees. ... in the small town of Geldermalsen... A planned discussion about the imminent arrival of the migrants, staged by the town council, was abandoned in the chaos as the mob outside tried to storm the building. Councillors were forced to flee out of rear exits into police vans.

Paul M. Winistorfer, the dean of the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech:

The expressions "silver bullet," "pull the trigger," "shoot from the hip and "under the gun" are used in everyday language across our campus, and commonly even by those in leadership positions. I hear these and similar terms at least once a week, if not once a day. It always makes me cringe.

I cannot help but reflect on the pain and suffering inflicted on so many in our country and around the world by violence involving guns and bullets.

If I made NGU smile, I've done my good deed for the day.

Woke up this morning with Achmed the Light Saber Boy begging to be written. But, I could've gone back to sleep except for the yowling cat, wandering around, begging to be let out. Want to break him of this bad early morning habit, so I had to get up and chase him down.

By this point, lights on, stalking yowler with the spray bottle. all the other critters anxiously think it's time for me to let them out and/or feed them, standing by the door or standing by their food bowls, depending on where in the house I walk.

I'm disappointing them all by sitting here drinking coffee and ignoring their demands.
