Chemjeff at Applebee's... ah, tradition. As I've said before, I think that's where I came in, years ago.

I would watch the SCOAMF tomorrow night if I knew he was going to have a complete meltdown on-camera. Something like the episode of MASH with Harry Morgan, before he came back in the Col Potter role.

Maybe see SCOAMF stuck in a brain-freeze.

Passing by...

Am I getting ads for diapers because they were mentioned earlier for staunching wounds?

Watched the season conclusion of Dr Who. It was okay. But earlier, watched the 2nd episode of the Hopalong Cassidy tv show. Now, THAT was satisfying tv drama. Except, Hoppy should have strung up the bad guys instead of running them out of town. IMHO.

Howdy.

Speaking of attackers, what about the shooter situation in Neenah, WI mentioned in an earlier thread? Any news?

Not exactly off-topic, but related... Should I? Sure, why not? Probably willowed by now, anyway.

Things we know.

Jesus was not born in a lonely, isolated medieval-European-style wooden barn on Dec 25 in the year 1AD.

The year was more like 8 to 4 BC (Christ born Before Christ always strikes me as funny), and the place was probably a kind of cave-barn close up to the inn. (Apparently, the Euro barn was St. Francis of Assisi's invention, says Milady.) And some guesstimate it was possibly in the early Spring or late Summer - early Autumn, if there were really shepherds around town instead of up in the hills.

And think about it. If Bethlehem was so crowded, because of the tax ruling, that the barn was set up for guests (not that uncommon for folks to sleep with their animals at "inns" of the day), it's also unlikely Joseph & Mary were lonely and isolated. If there were other women travelers around, Mary was very likely assisted in the birth, wouldn'cha think? Women being like that through the ages.

I've known since I was a kid about the parallax effect, you know, where the moon follows you, and how that kind-of debunks how the Wise Men were led, whether star, comet, or meteor. Unless they had some shiny special angel leading them, following the Star is probably a conflation of the visit of the wise guys, whyever they showed up, with memories of spectacular planetary conjunctions which, in recent decades, have been computer-confirmed, such as happened three times in 7BC.

None of which to me detracts at all from Christmas, in all its stars and glories and angels singing. Because. Joy to the world, the Lord is born! Let earth receive her king!

The front-lawn creches with Santa and Rudolph and Frosty and Snoopy kneeling at the manger - now, those are disturbing!

Merry Christmas!

Downtown park has a "Festival of Lights." Lots of displays, some animated, created entirely with twinkle lights. Santa stuck in the chimney, Santa in a bi-plane (local history big on aviation, eg Wiley Post), melting snowman, deer leaping over the roadway, and, yes, a creche. Hosted by a local church.

Christmas parade is tonight. Haven't attended since our kids were kids, usually too cold for me, but the weather's been tolerable and I've been thinking about going.

Performance of Handel's The Messiah on Sunday at the Community Center.

Downtown isn't quite as decked-out as it was in its heyday, seems t'me, but still festively bewreathed and lit. Same for homes, depending on neighborhood. Some just haven't got their lights up yet.

(And while it's not a serious concern, if some muslin atrocity types show up at the parade, I'm confident there's many a citizen prepared to exercise 2A rights in response.)

Merry Christmas!

Morning, Glories! Sunshine and warmth is the prediction for today. I'd say "unseasonable" warmth, but Oklahoma's season depends upon from which direction the wind is blowing.

Now, whatcha'all been saying in 200 comments?

I spent far too much time the past couple of days following threads on here. Informative, but time-consuming. So much else I should've been doing!

Just finished watching the 2nd episode of Man in the High Castle. Decided to watch based on what Morons have said about it, and, yeah, it's certainly well-done. I just hope this resolves to something worth having watched so much depressing gruesomeness and intensity. (Don't tell me.)

I need a doggeh video now.

Then I probably need some zz's.

They're still sort of pushing this workplace violence jag...

In the last thread, somebody said cops have said they think the jihadi couple were heading to a 2nd target.

Wonder if 2nd target was original and primary, and Mr Murderous Scum decided, hey, before we do that, let's hit these guys.

If so, the "workplace" decision might've saved a lot more lives, in that primary target was never reached. More honor in heaven to the victims.

Just armchair theorizing.
