Harry Paratestes: Email address can be fake and change all the time. Mines always been fake and is not consistent.

Yeah, I don't really know why the mandatory email. I keep mine real and always the same so the Powers That Be know it's me even when I'm masked in the other two fields, but that's just my courtesy. That's the only reason why I suggested keeping it consistent.

Your hash is tied to your IP address, not your email address.

Yeah, I know. Don't think I said otherwise. I'll re-check my work. Eventually.

Goal posts on a Roomba

IllTemperedCur: Yeah, I was proud of that one.

That was yours?

Laurie David's Cervix: The Senate rejected Thursday evening an amendment... Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill. was the only Republican who voted against the amendment....

Color me confused (but not as much as Hillary). I thought the Repubs had a majority in the Senate, yet with only one R against it, the amendment is rejected? How does that work? Or am I mis-reading?

Oh, yeah...

Stringer Davis - eternabond. Thanks. I'll check it out.

I was probably just going to buy some tarry stuff and spread it around.

ReactioanaryMonster: ...They're dishonestly moving the goalposts....

Every time I see this phrase now, I think of the comment a couple nights back on the ONT (IIRC) asking, who put the goalposts on a Roomba? Instant classic.

About the pic of Mrs Murdering Scum looking "too hindu"... She's supposed to be from Pakistan originally, right? I don't know nuffin' 'bout Paki culture, but it is pretty close to / used to be part of India, so, maybe not so strange a look for her?

Feeling accomplished, in small ways, these days.

Finally replaced the three cracked/broken panes in the front door. Only took two trips to the glass place (measure thrice, cut twice) and one to the hardware store. Chipping away at 80-year-old window glazing was tough going, but once all that was done, slipping in the plexi (no more cracked glass from door-slamming), positioning the pins, and slapping on the glazing went fast. Milady the artist did the final smoothing-out of the glazing. Looks great.

I always wonder why it takes me so long to get around to these handyman projects, then when I get into something like that, I realize, oh, yeah! Took two afternoons.

Then, several days ago, the slow, long-ignored drip in the old kitchen sink turned into a steady dribble. I really didn't want to get into it, because if I mess up, we have no kitchen sink and have to wait for a plumber. I mentioned the front door was 80 years old? Yeah, that's the newer part of the house. This sink was in the older part. But, finally, for the second time in twenty years I got out the tools and successfully replaced the washers on the spigots and the faucet. Turned out to be pretty quick easy, after all. Also patched the crack in the horizontal running from spigot to faucet. Everything's tight, no leaks or drips. Yay!

So, today I get to go up to the roof and see if it's dried out enough around that leak, on the old part, where the three peaks meet. This house was in bad shape when we moved back here 21 years ago, and the roof was leaking badly in many places. Now it's time to have the roof done again. But I just need to patch the one spot for now, hoping that will be enough to hold 'til Spring.

Glazing and faucets I've done before. Roof repair, not. Any suggestions on material to patch it? Cement roof with whatchacallit roof felt on top of that.

Hm. This looks kinda long. Sorry. Now to catch up on the fifty comments made while I wrote this!...

naturalfake: ...Crash of magazine sales speeds up, Time Inc. down 13% in just 3 months...

Proud to say that my 95yo Mom is contributing to that. She's subscribed to Time since before I was born, and that was... a while back. Says she's letting her subscription lapse because there's just nothing there, for the money. You go, Mom!

Allllmost caught up to end of thread. Must be time for a new post....

Only up to comment 80, but I'll get caught up eventually.

Seamus, Milady figured out how to get the book, finally. Technical difficulties overcome. Says she's read three chapters of it already.

Apparently, I've got to put the Kindle app on my tablet to read it. Memory is already pretty full - last time I tried to install a prog, there was no room. Might need to delete something to make room for that. Or just steal her tablet.

Or order a dead trees copy, I suppose.

J.J. Sefton: Only 10 senators voted yea on Rand Paul's bill to halt immigration from Middle Eastern countries....

Is there some website where I can check on the votes of my Reps & Senators all the time? I really want to keep tabs on them, but don't always take the time to track this info down.

Barring that, always appreciate links to vote lists on significant legislation.

Big orange-red ball of fire just crept over the horizon, sending its searing light across ninety-three million miles of space, through our atmosphere, under the big arbor vitae by the shed, through the glass of the front door, and straight into my eyeballs.

A sign of December. A little over three weeks until it reaches its Southernmost and turns around.
