Milady recalls that Mondale only took Minn. by about 1000 votes? His home state, too. 1000 votes has got to be within the "margin of tampering."

Jean: Still something wrong with the Republicans being Red and the Commies blue
Ah, can't resist a hook like that!
You have my sympathy, Crank. Nothing as loyal as a good dog. Milady was asked tonight how old our dog was, and she answered, 13, and then realized, no, has to be several years older. Starting to show it.
Remember all the good.
@publius:
Yeah, I'm ready to live-blog Trump on SNL.
If I don't fall asleep first. Or end up watching something on YouTube. Or get too into reading comments on here. Or clipping my toenails.
Otherwise, totally ready.
Heh, not willowed. This Winter Posting Schedule, two long morning open threads and no BenK headlines, baffles my blog instincts.
BackwardsBoy: I believe it was either Lennon or McCartney that started writing whimsical lyrics that didn't make much in the way of sense....
McCartney, the Cute One. That woud be the second McCartney, after the first one died in that car crash. Had no use for him after his first solo album.
Lennon was the Serious One.
/willowing-tempting ramble ON
Lennon's lyrics, like those of Cat Stevens, mostly impressed me as sad, in a big way. They were struggling and searching for they knew not what. God, of course, and Truth. But they couldn't know that.
Stevens seemed to be finally coming close to something like a spiritual breakthrough, and an artistic one to boot, in Buddha and the Chocolate Box, but then flamed out and went Islamic. Well, whatever works for you, I guess. He quit music and public life. Which was probably good, considering.
Lennon put his frustrations in dramatic declarative statements (e.g. "Imagine") which still pi$$es off a lot of people. For me, it was evidence of his seeking but not quite finding, which really did reflect a lot of that generation, including me, although I was never that lost or lefty.
After abandoning his firstborn and getting sucked in by junk, he managed to clean up his act, hang up his guitar, and dedicate himself to his marriage and son.
I'd like to think that John came as close to peace in that era as he ever would. Maybe because of, maybe despite Yoko. That one sappy album they did before he was gunned down showed those changes, and as my wife and I had just started our own family at the time, I really appreciated his coming back with that message. When I turned on the radio one day to hear "Watching the Wheels," it was really a rare thrill.
Who knows what he might've achieved. He was never exactly the stereotypical leftie folks took him to be; he might've even become more conservative in his old age. Orrr... he might've just become (more of) an annoying old lefty curmudgeon. We'll never know.
/ramble off, checking if willowed
Bruce Boehner: Thanks for the sober clarification.
...false dichotomy. And conflation...
Which is why I wrote "it seems (seems!)..." Just because 99%+ of the "refugees" are really a violence-prone invading army doesn't mean there aren't some valid refugees, regardless of how they're handled by other countries.
This particular individual, if you watch the video, was making a huge effort to get somewhere he wasn't exactly welcome, by non-legal means. So, despite his motives, still doing it wrong. Ultimately so wrong, he ended up being fish food.
Anyway, as I said, the most interesting part of the talk was the detective work on finding out who the bodies were. That's about half the talk or less.
Ted Talks: "Ideas Worth Sharing" [SOMEtimes, 'though usually not]
Bruce Boehner: If a rapist flees destruction in search of a better life, you are not obligated to let them in your home. And if the camps are gross, the ones living there are at least in part responsible.
I hope they haven't tuned you. If they bit you less than 24 hours ago, you can still inject yourself with the progzombie antidote.
I'm having trouble parsing this, Bruce. Nothing about this particular individual being a rapist. I said nothing about obligations to let them in or anything else like that.
When you say, "I hope they haven't tuned you," do you mean "turned"? And do you mean me? As if. I'm inoculated for life by Moron Attitude.
You don't seem to have read my review very carefully. Cut back on the morning bourbon, maybe, there, Boener? ![]()
Vic: ...its all the cop's fault although here in SC they would have had to be doing something besides simple "fleeing" before the cops are allowed to use deadly force.
You're right, I'm sure, Vic, thanks. I really was just trying to say, not the legality, but that fleeing from cops is never a good idea in any case. As here, you never know when you might run into a 'roid rager.
grammie winger: To bring glory to God, and to bring someone along with you.
Oh, sure, you had to bring the short form.
Nice, grammie.

Just in case you missed this video with which Ace (bless his cotton-pickin' heart) closed out the week.
Watch out for dusty eyes.
That's all.
SciShow:
Do We Have To Give Up Bacon?
I really liked this one. I was concerned Hank Green would be on the side of the scaremongers, but this video actually covers the WHO report on what the statistical "increased risks" from red and processed meats really means, compared to the scary headlines and bad reporting, like Time Magazine's cover story on "the war on deliciousness" that I mentioned days ago.
Hank quotes: "Does it mean you should stop eating bacon? I dunno. How much do you like it?" And "If you're eating pounds of hot dogs a day, you might want to cut back." Heh.
Kudos to Hank for this one.
Wow. It's taken me almost an hour to catch up to my own first comment? A meaty morning thread, with lots of click-away reading.
Before we get art-willowed, here's a few YouTube Reviews. I watch a lot of stuff so you don't have to.
Louder With (Steven) Crowder:
The Real CNBC Republican Debate
Crowder has his good stuff and his mediocre stuff. Lately, IMO, mostly mediocre.
This video is animated in "Clutch Cargo" style, something Crowder has done several times lately. Amusing in its own right, for being so disturbing.
This has its moments. Doesn't really take a full swing at the moderators, not much pro or con the candidates. Just kind of juvenile mockery like old Mad Magazine might've done. So, enjoyable enough, if you go into it with lowered expectations.
Ted Talks:
Anders Fjellberg: Two Nameless Bodies Washed Up on the Beach. Here Are Their Stories
Spoilers: They were Syrian refugees trying to swim the English Channel.
While it leans toward the "those poor refugees" side of things, I found this interesting because: informed citizens (hello, Morons!) know there is a huge influx of militant yoots into Europe, a dangerous tide of threatening, low-culture Islamists, including criminals, rapists, and terrorists. But, it seems (seems!) these two refugees, well, one of them, really were fleeing the destruction of their homes in search of a better life.
Also interesting for its glimpses of the terrible conditions in the refugee camps (which are a consequence of bad Euro policies, of course).
Maybe most intriguing sheerly in its detective work on "who were these bodies?"
anti-socialist: I'm going to put aside a long standing grudge and watch the usually awful SNL, tonight.
No grudge, just taste, but we haven't watched an SNL since Milady's childhood friend left the cast, lonnng time ago,* but we're going to be down at Mom's tonight, and I'm going to at least stay up to watch the start of the show on her big screen teevee.
Mostly because I enjoyed Trump's skit with whowasit? Kimmel pretending to be Trump looking in a mirror. And I want to see if riots erupt.
*(Said friend a full-blown radical leftie with whom Milady hasn't had contact in a long time, and studiously dodged all political discussions when she did, and who (friend) is now writing "rambling psychobabble" against Trump's appearance on SNL. Yeah, her. http://bit.ly/1NzkWYJ )
J.J. Sefton: For those keeping score, tomorrow marks the one year mark until the election.
Awww. I've been waiting to remark on that until the day, and now you done gone 'n spoiled my fun.
Gonna be a long year.
Ooops . Trivial Persuer, not Vic, on my last.
(Going for 2nd cuppa coffee)
Vic: ...Some congressman is reportedly "very upset" about the IRS' treasonous lawbreaking.
Oh, good. This will all end soon, then. ![]()
Vic: Two LA cops who were trying to serve a warrant...
Louisiana, not Los Angeles. Abbvs cn b confusing.
Does the father have any responsibility for fleeing from cops in the first place?
Tragic that the little boy got caught between his dumb dad and what seem to be out of control cops.
