"I was the fourth, and I’m still looking for an explanation…"

Heh. I was 4th out of 5, and #5 was a girl, six years younger than me, so unlike with my older siblings, I couldn't tease and beat up on the next one down. I tended to catch it from both directions.

Not only does #4 not get the hunting trips with grampaw, life tips from mom & dad, or whatever else that the oldest kids got (new clothes & toys, not hand-me-downs), not only did elders and teachers treat me like I was the troublemaker my older brothers were, but Mom still talks about things she says I said or did, and I have to say, no, that was my brother - even happened again on Mother's Day.

Good thing I'm in my seventh decade and don't have to care about any of that anymore.

"Are We Watching an Attempted Coup: Out in the Open and in Slow Motion?"

Very much so, seems t'me.

The Left v Trump is just another facet of the war that's been going on since a certain formerly heavenly character fell and dragged a ton of folks down with him. Troublemakers gotta troublemake.

Once WW2 went hot for the USA after Pearl Harbor, you didn't hear so much from those who favored the Nazis, or opposed war generally. What we are seeing now, even worldwide, seems to me to be a similar time of choosing, prelude to that saving the wheat, burning the chaff thing. No more fence-sitting.

Or maybe it's just another day on this wacky world.

Agreed this was a good one, chrissy. Remy's work isn't consistent (some songs fall flat, sometimes he's too libertarian for my taste), but when he shines, he shines.

Also agreed on the ending. Milady and I both chuckled, even at your comment recalling it.

BTW!! Just noticed your WP profile says "I'm a 60 something wife, mom and grandmom who is homebound/disabled by severe hypersensitivity to chemicals.…" I hope your health continues to improve, and this can be updated positively and permanently.

The race pride definitions...

Just read this comment over at Ace:

Wikitionary has Blacksplain and Whitesplain

Blacksplain:

Of a black person in a group with non-black people: to be required to explain some concept which is very common in black culture but unknown to non-black members of the group.

Whitesplain:

To explain (something) condescendingly to one who is not Caucasian, especially regarding race relations or minority behavior, presuming the listener's inferior understanding because of their race.

Both mean stuplid whitey!

(Just like "black power" v "white power," or "women's rights" v "men's rights"!!)

Order your "only two genders" t-shirt in M or F version.

Hilarious.

"…so large while still in utero that my doctor suspected twins…"

We were in kind-of the opposite situation. There is diabetes in Milady's family which can produce large kids, so as she started getting big fast, we thought that might be the problem.

Also, our friends, the couple next door, had just found out they were going to have twins, so we didn't think the lightning would strike twice. (Actually, there were other sets of twins around that time on our block - and there was talk of a randy mailman…!!)

But Milady's sister, a nurse, palpatated… palpit… felt around, and said, she thought there were two heads in there - and the ultrasound proved her right.

Fortunately, each head had its own body.

Well! Good afternoon! About time someone woke up and wrote a Mother's Day post here! ;) (Just kidding. I know y'all were dutifully in church all morning.)

Some good funny there, Pete. Thanks for the smiles.

I was there for the birth of all three of our kids.

For our firstborn, the midwife was, um, late, I'll say, and I got to play the role of catch-the-baby.

So, I was just as glad that when the twin boys were due, we made it to the hospital and I got to just hold Milady's hand and watch the pandemonium.

When kids have birthdays, I try to always wish the Mom a happy birthday, too. Because, nobody has to tell me who does all the work!!

Hahahaa. All so true.

Of course, we had 2nd & 3rd babies at the same time, so, some variations for ours.

First baby: You're grateful for the gift of diaper service, and happy to hand the poor worker a bag full of filthy ones, as you are handed a big bag of clean diapers. And proud of not polluting with plastic.

Second+Third babies: Parents of multiples receive a special exemption from ecological restrictions - big, big boxes of disposables!

Sitting on my mom’s porch, listening to birds chirping and the Mormon choir. What an amazing age.

Today I’ll get to hang out with my three favorite moms.

My daughter’s baby didn’t make it to birth, but it was loved and wanted, and I say she qualified as a mom, in the hardest way.

Milady Webworker, of course, mother of our daughter and of the totally unlike each other fraternal twin boys.

And my own mom; so glad she’s still around – and getting around, if slowly – at almost 97. She has four of her five still alive (lost my oldest sib to cancer and med malpractice last year), ten grandkids, and so far seven great-grandkids, eight, actually, counting our son’s boy due in August – first Mom’s day for his should-soon-be-wife. ;)

Moms – they do all the work and get one day of credit!

Happy Mom’s Day, bob!

"...require abortion clinics to assess whether an unborn child is viable starting at 20 weeks..."

Riiiight. The "assessment": PP clinic employee looks at pregnant woman, looks at baby-parts price list: "Nope, not viable."

Decades ago, I didn't consider abortion - you know the litany: safe, early, and rare, - to be absolutely wrong. [Several paragraphs deleted - such a tough subject!]

If anything will make a right-to-lifer out of a person, Planned (Non-)Parenthood will do it.

Just passing through
Good to see
Virtual faces
Familiar to me

But, I ache and I'm sleepy,
Therefore instead
Of hangin' 'round chatting,
I'm heading for bed.

Final word of wisdom:
Don't drink from the barrel!
G'night Tammy, Miley, Palp,
And just because it rhymes, to Carol.

Re Obama on phone: The picture is and the caption are #fakenews. Actually, I hadn't seen this caption before, just the pic.

Snopes ("not as trustworthy and unbiased as we pretend to be") has the original pic.

Just for the record.

Still, the pic is always funny.

That's a funny one.

Hey, I've got an idea. Blue Beetle and, wasn't there a Beetle bad guy at Marvel (Spidey or Torch foe IIRC)? And you could add, um, er, Beetle Bailey? And the Beatles. Okay, never mind.

Okay, howzabout... The Diaper Squadron: Trixie from Hi & Lois, and Marvin, and.. SweetPea? The baby guy from Roger Rabbit? All right, this is why I don't usually suggest covers!

"Trixie, of course, hasn’t grown at all since this strip debuted 63 years ago."

(Didn't read the dozens of comments, so sorry if this has been said. I usually don't comment just because by the time I get here, there's already so many comments!! Anyway...)

I feel old: Seems t'me I recall when the Flagstons didn't have little Trixie, then Lois got pregnant, and then they had Trixie, and I wondered if they were going to start growing in "real" time a la Gasoline Alley. But of course not. Trixie grew up enough to sit up in a sunbeam, and that was it.

You know who else gets two scoops? Kim Jong Un. That's right. But so does everyone else, because communism = totally fair, maan!
