everyone is frustrated.....the last election was supposed to be the beginning of better times....instead of things turning around...our own people are accelerating our decline......

Since I'm not one who likes to fight just for expressing my opinion, I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't be hanging out here any more?

And that's a really sad thought.

Maybe I just need some coffee. Maybe.

I get all tied up in knots from the negativity at times also, but then I read something that steers me back on track; today it was Phoenix Girl's post & other days it's someone's hopeful analysis of something. The downers are empty and that's why we need you, Mindful Webworker, & others like you, to keep the balance. We're all here for much the same reasons, especially to reassure ourselves that we're not the only ones who actually see & understand what's happening around us --I'm comforted with all y'all's company, insight, humor, & ability to voice your frustrations.

Have a coffee & rejoice in this day - God will be working through us today.

The problem with the Klavan piece isn't him saying we should fight. The problem is that we've had our butts kicked. We don't control the media or entertainment, our votes are worthless, SCOTUS is just making it up with four "justices" who vote pretty much as a Leftist block, and some "conservatives" were very happy to go along with the homosexual marriage. So why shouldn't conservatives despair when their "leaders" are feckless and this country is far different from what it was even 20 years ago?

We've lost the country and Klavan's rah-rah doesn't change that. Admitting it is important to figure out what to do next.

I like the horde when it soars with patriotism, not so much submerged in hopelessness and despair. The Regressives never really get under my skin, but voices of alleged right-thinkers giving up are starting to make me ill.

I've already been attacked once on here for my views on this - not so much personal attack as just snarling back and called names. Since I'm not one who likes to fight just for expressing my opinion, I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't be hanging out here any more?

Ignore the attackers and stay.
Attackers are a dime a dozen.

Stay the course.

Hm.

Went back to read Vic's news, and went on to read reactions to Klaven, posted late on the ONT.

Whew.

From the viciousness of the ONT comments, seems t'me there is no longer a place on this forum for the now-alternative, minority viewpoint that America is worth the effort. The nattering nabobs of negativity have won, joining their regressive brothers in denouncing and abandoning the country as it could be.

Choice graphic, Maet! However, the link took me to an article about Takky, but I didn't see anything that looked like an apology.

That last photo of BigMooch, I don't understand. She seems to be wearing... is that a Ravenclaw sash, or is that Hufflepuff?

I'm thankful today that I have no children.

Some people shouldn't reproduce.

Sure are a lot of mopers about America in comments here lately. I understand the complaints and frustrations. I don't understand the quitters - lacking "manly firmness."

(Open thread below for wildly off-topic discussion.)

Yeah, that doesn't really work, y'know. The herd horde just rolls on, 'sfaras I kin tell.

Yesterday, someone asked about Joffen and I replied, and later, when someone asked about Backhoe, I realized I was confusing the two late Morons. Or conflating. Apologies, to both.

Hard enough for my tired old brain to connect names & faces & personas in meatspace; online folks without even avatars I have to tell apart by content of text alone, can you imagine!?!

I'm saying, you all look alike to me.

Okay, let me try to be more on-topic this time. A bit of news from the old home town:

...The "Street of Honor" is the personal project of local resident Bob Hunley, a 64-year-old retired Army sergeant.

Since moving here from Virginia four years ago, the wheelchair-bound veteran has painstakingly put out more than 100 flags along his street. The displays are created before Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans' Day.

"I didn't have nearly as many of the flags when I started," Hunley said Tuesday. "Last Friday, we put 180 of them up."...

Morning, Glories!

Finished reading comments in the last thread too late to say hello there. Hello here.

Most days, I wake up furiously enraged about my life or the world or both. (Cue Bruce Banner in the Avengers movie: I'll tell you my secret...) By the time I'm up, dressed, and focused on the computer screen, I tend to be over the worst of it, or at least have it under control. Today, I just can't seem to shake it. This is probably not good.

Irresistable post-goodbye comment

Since I was a kid, I thought about future vehicles.

Thought a lot about interior compartments that, for example, redistribute inertia by turning curve momentum into downward momentum by the compartment rotating into the turn. I've seen this realized in Japanese (?) demo cars that make the cab independent from the frame.

All that requires is ... utterly uncoupling all brakes and steering from mechanical connections, and making them all electronic.

Um.... wht could go wrng???

Finished BTTF p1. Get something new out of it every time.

When Marty pushes peeping-tom dad out from in front of his grampaw's car and gets hit, time went wrong.

When Lorraine kissed Marty, that whole "like kissing my brother" reaction? That was the moment time corrected. Her face at that moment: excellent.

Appreciated more than ever the crucial conflict, George interrupts Biff trying to rape Lorraine. George is surpised, but steps up, in a way that he wouldn't have before Marty influenced him. That was time changing. For the better.

As Prof. Brown would say, What the hell! Great ride.

Patrick from Ohio: The Rights holder for THE LAST STARFIGHTER has refused all offers to remake that movie.

A minor classic, but, yeah, I'd hate to imagine the dark, gritty, modernist update. What was the big gun effect called?

Good night Gracies. Wish I couldst party here tonight, but morning beckons, so I drive by comment.

I just popped in to say, thirty years ago today, Back to the Future premiered. I never saw it in theaters. I discovered it later, before parts 2 & 3.

Tonight, Milady and I are again watching the original part of the greatest time-travel trilogy ever filmed. 'Merica! Elements of Style, Strunk says, let every word tell. This movie wastes no time.

We're up to where Marty has predicted Goldie Wilson will become mayor.

Zemekis (IIRC) said he would never allow a remake in his lifetime and hoped his heirs continued that. Amen!

Remake? Impossible. It would be like trying to re-make Ghostbusters! BttF1-3 is not without warts, but it is as close to perfection as possible in the day. It is truly Classic. Yes, even unto Part 3. First Jennifer was better, though, bit part though she was.

Oh, Milady has finished making us sandwiches tacos! Back to Back to the Future!

I just realized... it's...

4th of July Eve!

Tonight, Uncle Sam slips down the chimney of all the good little citizens and leaves them gifts of hot dogs, cherry pie, star spangled banners, ammunition, books by Mark Levin, and tons and tons of bright, noisy, colorful fireworks.

Tomorrow morning, the little citizens will rise from their beds in joyous anticipation of the day. They will run to look under the Liberty Tree (well watered) for their gifts, to marvel and share with one another.

Although the celebrations will be enthusiastically boisterous, ceremonies and sermons will remind us of the solemn cause for our celebration, that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, and about instituting government which secures those rights. Then we end the day in prayer, thankfulness, and worship.

Merry Independence Day!
