If you can't trust a politician, who can you trust?
Morning, Glories. I didn't see Posted by: Vic in the first twenty comments. So, iit's going to be that kind of day, eh?
Cool after recent rains, sky all coral and turquoise in anticipation of the sunrise. I like mornings. Not yet clobbered by reality du jour.
Oooo. Coffee's done. That'll help. ![]()
Grunt: "You’ve really been working hard on the Mindful Webworks…"
Since I haven't been doing any originals, you must mean the links page. That's not work so much as hobby-like procrastinating. Mostly cut'n'paste. Weblinks clipbooking.
Good to see that this morning, Vic (Pete's brother by another mother over at Ace of Spades) linked to an article at Weekly Standard also noting the misleading media. (Warning: I linked from comments there to this page.)
Obnoxious: "...You do know that he did not say that any more than Sarah Palin said that she could see Russia from her house?..."
Re Pope calling Abbas an angel of peace: I linked (see nic) to an AP article by way of Truth Revolt, then got set straight by cth at PoliNation. http://bit.ly/media-fail-pope
Vic linked this morning to a Weekly Standard article about the misinformation.
http://tws.io/1FjgVBS
When I went back to my links, I found neither the Truth Revolt nor the AP article were online anymore. At least TR should have had an update to their post, not just delete it without a word. (I might have missed something.) Wouldn't expect such from AP.
Just finished reading the dog article. ("I can't believe I read the whole thing!")
Once the author got through wandering around to fill his word count, and got back down to the topic, it was pretty good. Thanks, BenK.
Noticed he even said what I had already put in my tagline...
Back from reading the morning thread and feeding the pesks.
"What Having A Dog Can Teach You About Life"
ahh. Haven't read the article yet, but I often say, I wish I'd known, when our kids were little, what our faithful and brilliant dog has taught me in the last decade.
He wandered up on us when he was young, probably tossed out by somebody when he became no long a cute puppy but a rowdy young dog. (Told my son to go chase off the stray. Son ran up to dog, yelling and waving his arms. Dog just laid down. I knew we had a new dog from that moment. So, Son got to name him.)
Dog had some adjustment problems, spent his early years mostly tied up, but eventually learned his territory and duties and now the leash is only used when we're in town and the tether never. He taught us, in return, to trust his judgment and dog-wisdom, something that didn't come easily to me.
Of course, if any of our kids had been half-way as trainable, much less eager to please...!
I worked hard composing my reply to Vic News in the previous thread, and what's my reward? Posted too late. (Rushing to hit Post here, before the art thread comes up.)
Mindful Reads Vic News Network:

Imagine my amusement when I clicked the (bad) link to try to find out who or what a "Meadowlark Lemon" is.
-------
Vic: "Maybe the pope isn't all bad. The MFM is misquoting him it appears."
I followed a Truth Revolt report to AP saying the Pope called Abbas an "angel of peace." Then I saw chrissythehyphenated on PoliNation point out that the Pope prayed that Abbas would be an angel of peace. Good to see the word is out more broadly than that one little blog.
http://bit.ly/media-fail-pope
I'm not as confident about this Pope as chrissy, but it's not hard to imagine he's getting distorting press.
-------
Vic: "Our AA appointed ambassador to the UN..."
Vic: "NYC AA hired firefighter..."
I always have to do the mental gyration. American Airlines? No. African American? No, that other thing, whatzitcalled, Artificial Advancement? (moar coffee!)

Thanks, Vic. Nice work this morning.
A light fog blankets the land. An owl hoots gently through the mists. Cats loll in the yard, watching birds and squirrels. Marvelously timeless.
Meanwhile, late to the party, I stagger to the computer, not yet enjoying the benefits of caffeine, and wave blearily at the crowd of already-buzzing commenters.
Morning, Glories!
Must acknowledge your work, cth, once again.
I earlier blogged the "Pope calls Abbas Angel" story from AP, by way of Truth Revolt. I have modified my blog link to point here instead.
The Truth Revolt article and the AP page it linked to seem to have disappeared.

Not that I don't share AOP's basic attitude esp re Disqus.
Just that, relative newbie (?) Semilitterate might not understand how precious clunky old Pixyware is to us all *cough* nor take comfort, as regulars do, that every thing will be fixed and improved in #twoweeks.
OregonMuse: Why they should be different is beyond me. Why pixy hasn't fixed this is also beyond me.
As you know, #twoweeks.
OM: "...that 'pixyize' link you provided produced the gibberish in #111. So how are you getting it to work?"
Oh, yeah: if you can't do the leading ampersand, you can't do those codes. Here: &&&&&&&&&

"...However, there were some things he thought needed to be changed to help get it over with a publishing house...."
In the 1980s, independent comics publishers briefly challenged DC & Marvel with truly innovative stuff, largely thanks to comic book store networks. But, printing is costly and the big two won out and comic book shops basically vanished. However, nowadays, anyone can independently publish a comic book, or strip, online, for basically nothing (production-distribution costs). The "make a profit" part is difficult, but not impossible. I just went to DC online comics for the first time yesterday, and they want an entire dollar to download a comic. Humbug! Were they 10¢, I'd seriously consider it.
Indy musicians, niche-topic writers, all the arts markets dovetail to digital, with the same liberty to self-publish and the consequent difficulties which publishers usually handle.
One may be a good cartoonist, songsmith, or writer, but a poor self-editor or self-publisher. (Ahem, MW online for 19 yrs, not one dime.) Since not everyone is necessarily going to be competent in self-publication, editor-publisher services are still useful, but shouldn't there be something like a multitude of publishers, so the artist is not restricted to the narrow tastes of a few?
Blurting stream-of-unconsciousness style, speaking of poor self-editing. Wonder if I made any sense.

Oh, that's just the book thread. Nobody goes there. You have to wear pants.

I calculate that mine are about 10% of the comments this morning. I know it's a realllly slow-moving thread, but that's almost -- oh, what's it called? -- embarrassing?
C'mon, let's get some commentin' goin' out there, horde! Anna Puma, we need more links, stat! You, the lurker over by the coffee pot, what's your thinking on the Obama beheading threat? And you, over there by the... hey, you shouldn't be doing that to the couch....
Oh, yes, and...
Yesterday, Barack Obama marked National Peace Officers Memorial with a picture of (one guess)...
To honor fallen officers...
Yesterday, flags were flying at half-mast.
Yesterday, a long line of police cars and fire trucks made their way slowly, sirens sounding, up the highway.
Yesterday, MSNBC posted a video of a cop getting dragged by a car, adding clown music and joking about it. (They have since withdrawn the tweet and posted a non-apology, but, strangely, the video continues to exist on the web.)

It's a mixed bag. The most beautiful time of year, merely punctuated with occasional twisting wind monsters. Just stay out of their way, and you're okay. :O
I think if you're living in the OKC/Moore area, though, you should be living underground.
