Harvey, I also thought the subject was extraordinarily patient with the geezer.

There's an old cartoon by some bigfoot underground gay cartoonist (ixquick to the rescue) Howard Cruse yeah I think that's who. Short story about a group of young friends who drop for the first time. One guy is the "guide," a designated non-tripper. He tries to be "trippy" (look! Scotch tape!) but is just annoying, and his fate, as I recall, was not pleasant.

Ah. Some google image searching turned up Howard's page about it. (The actual comic is probably online somewhere.) (But, ahem, you could buy his book.)

The subject at his trippiest reminded me of Ram Dass's story of how LSD experiments on seminary students made a shambles of normal controlled experimental procedures. Control group, after a while, might say things like, "I feel something, sort-of." Meanwhile, the tripping group was saying things like, "I SEE GOD!" Heh.

Acid trips before the invention of color were just not the same. Subject said, the carpet has colors. Researcher says, no, it's gray. Subject said, the charcoal was purple. Researcher says, no, it's black.

Researcher was a big downer.

Gwen Stacey.

Most horrific sound effect ever, tiny little sound.

Dead was dead.

Marvel got too real for this child that day.

Clones don't count.

And how many words must a poem contain before it's considered "epic"?

I thought to write an epic work
on life's depth and diameter,
Then realized I didn't care
for iambic pentameter.

How do you count the words in a novel? I lose track once I run out of fingers and toes!

Thou shalt not undermine the efforts of thy fellow Constitutional Republicans.

Not as snappy or succinct, but the times are twisted.

Not a facebooker, Jim. Links don't work. What's the reason given by GoFundMe, somebody? And, what comes after Kickstarter and GoFundMe, then, for such causes?

From Vic's #5 Feminist students are "triggered" by survey which sounds like BS to begin with.
http://fxn.ws/1K6Xf5R

>> ...Some students were so shocked by the language and descriptions - which include the words "penetration," "oral sex," and "sexual touching," - they had to immediately stop answering questions and told their friends not to participate.

Wonderful news! Prudery and modesty and sexual self-restraint until proper marriage must all be making a big comeback. Right? ... Right?

I walked out into the yard, admiring the beautiful Spring morning. The neighbor was out, too, and she asked, had we heard about the explosion in Oklahoma City? All she knew was they thought a bomb had gone off.

We had just moved our little family from Chicago back to Oklahoma the year before. Our move was based on hope, not fear, but the first WTC bombing had certainly brought home to us the vulnerability of Big City Targets, like Chicago (among its other problems). And now, terrorism had followed us to the heartland, it seemed, although we were far from OKC. Well, I already knew the new World War had no borders.

Spent much of the rest of the day watching the news on TV. Lots of "misinfo" in the early hours. Like the reports of additional bombs inside the building. Or that Iraqi John Doe who was so important at first, then forgotten....

My childhood buddy is a nurse in OKC. I remember asking him about his experience. They didn't have to put out a call; every doctor and nurse available turned up voluntarily as soon as the news got out. Alas, as it was later in NYC on 9/11, there were not so many people to treat as you might think, building collapses tending to be rather thorough at killing occupants.

The 168 victims counted doesn't include three unborn.

Also there was a leg which was at first unidentified, then they realized it belonged to a victim who had been buried with the wrong leg, so there's still one unidentified leg.

By the evening, I found myself standing where I was when I first heard about it. Looking at the beauty of that night, remembering the beauty of the day, thinking about the marvelous efforts of all the people who pitched in, and wondering what makes a person go so wrong that they should so admire death above life.

Some links I've collected can be found here:

There is a link for a GoFundMe for the woman who had to have her leg amputated on-site at the bombing. Her artificial replacement is old and needs replacing.

Glad to see this worthy rant re-posted, Hat. The slurry of comments goes by so fast and thick, valuable nuggets sometimes don't get sufficient appreciation. (Link to MWR's original rant)

Igor! We need to make a candidate with Perry's rugged good looks (especially that mugshot smile), Cruz's steadfast principles, Gowdy's tenaciousness, Cotton's freshness, Palin's sincerity, annnd... Reagan's voice. We still have some Reagan DNA in the freezer, I think. To the laboratory!

Moi frenzies! You have nothing to fear from a Rubio presidency.

Rubio's conservative steadfastness has been clearly demonstrated, just like my friend, Junior Senator Jeff, who by the way would make a fine Vice-President.

Do I detect Sherry McEvil? Have I just been missing your comments, or have you been MIA for a few months? Hope you're doing well. Enjoyed reading about your treating furriners to Buffalo at Woolaroc.

I thought I had your email addr, but if so I lost it. You could write me at mindfulwebworks.com as mindfulguy. Maybe meet up in T-Town one of these days, hard as that seems to be for me to accomplish - whenever Milady and I get down there, time is tight, strictly for shopping, doctors, or the precious joy of visiting Mom. We took in a movie once, a couple of years ago...

Yes, I retired and spend way less time in front of a computer these days. So that, combined with my complete disgust with how our newly elected Republican majority is betraying us every chance they get, I haven't been posting much. I will send you my address.
