Bitter Clinger: Firefox still works on XP? I am hoping to get my desktop upgraded to the 21st Century someday, but meantime, I could try that. Pale Moon won't play on XP, last I checked IIRC. I really haven't shopped around much.

I get deeply invested in my set-up. I am used to my browser's keystrokes, custom toolbars and buttons, RSS handling, all the ways it works. I used to be young and agile-minded. "New this or that? Let's try it!" Now I just want the software to work so I can work. I hate upgrading almost as much as moving.

Bigger fish bought up and killed off my HTML writing program (back before I moved to CMS), and my paint program (which I still use), and my business utilities (you'd laugh). I hit the wall on video editing

I think the only program that has kept right on chugging through all the changes is Forte Agent for email and newsgroups. But then, what that program handles hasn't really changed in decades.

Vic: "I just wish everybody would quit with the damn auto-play videos."

On the old XP desktop, I still run Opera 12 browser. I have toolbar buttons to quickly toggle javascript, plug-ins, and cookies on/off. As a rule, these are always off. Without those on, you don't get pop-ups or auto-play. On frequently-visited sites, I can set up preferences to have some or all of that stuff on regardless. Old Opera v12 has become unusable on some sites, though. Like XP and the box it's in, O12 is increasingly an anachronism.

Although I have tried various post-v12 Chrome-ized Opera browsers on my and milady's tablets and cells, I have not found a similarly easy way to toggle the activities or set individual site preferences, and I run with all the vulnerabilities open. So, yeah, hate the auto-run videos. Especially sidebar ads that shout at me.

Vic: "...there is a major campaign on by the anti-death penalty advocates t eliminate the death penalty by forcing the drug makers to quit producing the drugs. That is why AZ (?) recently went back to firing squads...."

Ahem. When you want efficiency and economy....

"Oklahoma would become the first state to allow the execution of death row inmates using nitrogen gas under a bill overwhelmingly approved on Tuesday by the House of Representatives. The House voted 85-10 for the bill by Oklahoma City Republican Rep. Mike Christian, who began studying alternative methods after a botched lethal injection in the spring that led the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the constitutionality of Oklahoma's current three-drug method."

Morning, Glories!

Vic, that seemed like an especially hearty newscast. Thanks.

So, any bets how long until Obama appoints a horse as a Senator?

Oh, argh. My sympathies, from experience. Last time, I… no, never mind, too grisly to recall.

Glad you're taking care of her. Lord, grant her swift recovery.

The satellite destruction has been covered on Space.com: "signs currently point not to a collision with a piece of space junk or other external cause but rather to an issue aboard the spacecraft, which launched in 1995. 'Basically, the spacecraft was 20 years old and experienced what appears to be a catastrophic event associated with a power system failure,'" Hmmm.

chrissy, was that leatherneck graphic your work? I notice there’s no credits on it. Asking, because it just showed up over on Liberal Logic 101.

EC: "...if you had a wife with the normal reaction to arachnids (screaming and fainting)..."

Milady's strong, big-city bred and country toughened, but she has the normal reaction to arachnids. Yet she has this more powerful urge to make amazing photographs. I get favored, heh, for bringing such potential subjects to her attention. And then, when called for, wiping them out.

If I had found that spider's nest, I would call Milady out to see it.

She would grab her camera and get lots of amazing close-up shots of them.

Then I would blast the area with Raid.

Morning, Glories!

Just read up through #83. Takes a lot longer to read through the comments when I also tangent off to actually read pages to which Vic & others link!

Not very long ago, the Winter sun as seen from our house was rising well south of the big arbor vitae near the shed. Then it was rising behind the shed. Then it was rising behind the water tower north of the shed. After not seeing the sunrise for several days due to the overcast last gasps of winter, today I notice it's rising well north of the water tower, getting near due East (duh, it's almost the equinox).

The rapidity of the sun's progress northward this time of year is always surprising, and encouraging, heartening, that Spring is Here! As if the budding trees, wild garlic sprouts sticking through the snow, and flocks of screaming birds weren't clue enough.

Day before yesterday, we saw a bunch of those thieving bully Blue Jays hassling a pair of would-be-nesting mockingbirds. Today, a screaming murder of crows could be heard, intertwined with hawk screams; I've seen those two groups fighting in our trees before. Blue Jays and Crows know how to gang up on others; paint your own sociopolitical metaphors, I'm gonna grab some coffee.

That was… amazing. Thanks, BoB.

All the falls on ice, though, ow, ow, ow. I hurt all over just from watching it. Like falling on concrete. Not funny, at all. Except maybe the guy with the banjo.

I see that of Oklahoma's six congresscritters, only Tom Cole voted for amnesty. There's always one, even now that there aren't any Dems.

His picture from top of his website:

Cole

(If that's the best picture they could find…)

He blustered about he did it for the Homeland Security, for American Safety. Didn't actually mention the amnesty part directly, but said we should leave thrashing out that part to the courts, the ongoing lawsuits.

Right, Tom. Right.

I subscribe to Dice's YouTube channel. Much of what he posts has "Illuminati" in the title and I skip all that, but I never miss one of his on-the-street polls. They've become increasingly hilarious/infuriating.

You might think trying to get Karl Marx elected was as far-out as he could go, but a week ago — I don't think this got posted here — he posted Obama Supporters Sign Petition With NO EXPLANATION and ZERO Information about What They're Signing! At least in this one there were several people who hesitated and asked what they were signing… before signing anyway. @@

Now the ground is covered with "ice pellets." When I was young, I remember snow, sleet, and hail, but I don't remember "ice pellets." Is this a sign of globull warning?
