One of the things about reading a lot but ignoring Mass Media is that I don't always know how things are pronounced. I think it was Dave Barry who first clued me that Vee-aug'-ruh is pronounced to rhyme with Niagra - on purpose. I did learn eventually that "khan-yay" and Kanye were the same person.

So, help a cultural recluse out here. How do you pronounce "Suge"? Is it "sooge" (rhymes with rouge, and I can't believe rouge gets mentioned two threads in a row) or "suggy" (like snuggie) or "sudge" (rhymes with sludge) or...? Don't want to embarrass myself in front of my young cousins again, like when I mispronounced "vair'-uh-zahn".

bob: "That's about the most unappetizing thing I've seen all week."

That possum "sleeping" on the road last night looked more edible. At least it was fresh. I suspect the schools are now serving up leftovers from the USSR.

Lizzy! Shh! Fer gawd's sake, don't give them ideas!

I guess I shouldn't complain about our 38° overcast calling for rain. I'd rather it be colder and snow, or failing that, cold but sunshiney. Winter rains are sad.

artisanal 'ette: "I'm watching soccer. I'm good. I actually really do like the sport. I know everyone here at Ace does not, but it's fun to watch."

I had no idea what soccer was when I got to HS, but I played it for three years, ending up co-captain of the B squad, which was pretty good for me, since I started out a flabby, pathetic last-guy-chosen type. And since most of the players were off-season football guys, we didn't play like fancy Europeans but like clunky Americans. Some good memories, despite the agonies.

And if the coach had just put one of my B team guys in for fullback after Tom got that concussion, we might have taken the tournament that last year! But I don't carry that around with me or anything.

[Waves back to Carol]

Mad Magazine's send-up of the '70s Hulk TV show. On the show, they had changed Banner's name to David from Bruce. Mad suggested they did this because of the "Bruce" name suggesting homosexuality, but in the panel for contrast were featured, like, Bruce Wayne and Bruce Lee and so on. And Bruce Jenner.

But sometimes, I guess, a name is destiny.

Morning, Glories!

I got nothing.

But it's a dry nothing.

That's great work. There's a "making of" video for this.

Having never seen the Brady Bunch, I had to be told who Jan was. Didn't recognize the not-Marcia or the not-Jan. Grunt put a name to the guy with the axe. The making-of vid tells me the other guy is Steve Buscemi. iMDB told me I've probably seen 'em in something, but I don't really know either one. But that didn't detract from being able to appreciate the bit.

Oh, say, speaking of Sunny TV, she's been slacking off for a long time for some strange reason.

Oh, I'm glad you saw the Mirror's article. I meant to mention it on the earlier thread.

I still haven't watched any of GloZell's videos. Always appreciate that others will make the sacrifice to report on such things for me. :D

Grunt: “Um,… because we was drunk?”

If I was at the desktop, I'd search my bookmarks for the story I read recently, from the home town when I was a yout'. Some local teens drove down to Texas and stole … I'm trying to remember what. Something like Sam Houston's tombstone, but not that. I could guess which ones of my older brothers' friends they were, but I don't know who did that particular bit of thievery. I know a guy who would know - heck, I suspect he was in on it, based on the M.O. Anyway, somehow, they tracked whatever it was down to the home town and it was returned. Intact and unharmed. On condition nobody was named or charged. (Which narrows the perps to a few of the upper-crust families.) That's how you pull a prank. A good one.

Busting up the dinosaur statue and dumping him - a scumbag move. They're scumbags, regardless of whether alcohol was involved.

I'd hoped for one of those deals where they move him around and photograph him and put it on the web. "Today, Dino is visiting Kansas...."

Sefton: "I think we actually have a chance to beat the establishment. What a fucked up situation that we have to beat our own putative party first..."

I'm all in favor of what Joe Dan "Froglegs" Gorman called a "hostile takeover of the Republican Party."

1964 Oklahoma GOP was just like GOPe. See autobiography of Henry Bellmon, our state's first Republican governor, for how that got changed and Republicans stated winning.

I knew you all would want to know about the follow-up on this local story that has gained national press attention. The question always was, harmless prank or big jerks? Alas, it was the latter.

They're just lucky dino rustlin' doesn't carry the same penalties as for livestock, 'round these parts.

[Did Reason have the black diamonds showing above? Funny how unicode looks okay on the front page but still won't work in acecomments. I'm sure it will all be cleared up soon. #2wks]

The welfare state works, it just hasn't been really tried yet. Once everyone is on welfare, and everyone turns all their earnings and properties over to the government, then the 5-year-planners will make sure everything works right.

Need I add /sarc ?

Back. The ONT was good. Decided to skip the comments, though. Hope I didn't miss anything world-shattering.

Say, just wondering, anybody got an idea how we can be rid of the scumbag traitors in DC, starting at the top? I'm tired of Bronco Bama!

Wow. I just remembered. I never read the ONT. BBL. Don't let the comments pile up too much while I'm gone.

J.J. Sefton: "And the evil Joos sunk the Titanic. The Icebergs."

Groan! That can't be a new joke, but it's new to me. Funny.
