Old Jack the Cat had his bad teeth dealt with yesterday, and this morning, for the first time in almost a week, he is eating. Yay! He'd lost more pounds than our smallest kitty weighs!

Sure are a lot of other things we could've used that money for...! Cats!

"Bennett bid four spades, was doubled and went down four tricks - eleven hundred points."

I never did understand how fourth dimensional Go Fish was played. I'll bet today's story was a real knee-slapper for those who speak the language.

you think the world is in bad shape? you think the nation is a mess? you should see my life.

but that doesn't mean I can't stop and enjoy moments between the hammerings.

for Amy Adams's birthday, tonight Milady & I watched half of Enchanted, up through the big dance number in the park, a scene which has few to rival it - the parade in Ferris Buehler, the Maxwell Street dance in Blues Brothers.

also, positive message of love , romance, and marriage for life in this place where there is no happily ever after.

I do not even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post
was good. I don't know who you are but definitely you are going to a famous blogger if you are not already :) Cheers!

:D

I've received that one more than once, and again today. The spambots sometimes elude the filter, but rarely enough that I can usually enjoy* eyeballing them rather than deleting en masse.

Hadoop: "Oklahoma is claiming that fracking is causing earthquakes."

Two fixes.

"Oklahoma" can't claim anything. Quote scientists unquote claim things like that. About Oklahoma. So some committee wastes our money pondering it.

Hadoop: "Don't want those corn fields falling down!"

Mostly pasture, but otherwise, wheat, I think. And soybeans. And a couple sizeable urns with towers.

The quakes are real. They're down in OKC area but in the biggest one a couple years ago, a friend's house was seriously damaged... in Tulsa, 90 mi away.

I'm 50 mi further away, and I felt it (my only conscious experience of earthquaking).

An earthquake of a magnitude which would merely locally rattle Californians will travel with great force over vast areas via the mid-continent bedrock. Like when 1812 Madrid series rattled Philly & D.C.

The OK quakes are new, and increasing in frequency and strength, AFAIK. If this is Anthropogenic Tectonics (added to my permanent vocabulary, AllenG), I would not expect such increases.

I am not a professional or pedigreed seismologist, just a hobby armchair geologist, but I think something subterranean has significantly shifted, and we may soon see the Big One happens not at Madrid as has so long been predicted, but in OKC. And nothing mid-continent is built to withstand the earth heaving and shifting.

Whee.

I survived the biggest (Oklahoma) quake - mugs & t-shirts &c. overpriced junk (my profit is tiny, tho). You want it especially if you were nowhere near.

Why don't riders just pull out their sidearms and shoot the varmits? I don't Goetz it.

Always so strange, as in the video, to see Hillary's hovering handler Huma. Hillary, the choice of Muslim Brotherhood gangsters everywhere.

Ace's headline on this story: "Legendarily Entitled Politician Has Rock-Star Demands In Speaking Engagement Contracts." In the comments, I learned that the famous "no brown (or red) M&M's" stipulation which the reporters laugh about at the end of the clip was actually a stipulation groups thought to put in their contracts to ensure all the important stuff was tended to, after little accidents like a drum stage collapsing and an electrocution. If the M&M's detail was not followed, start checking the wiring.

I've posted this before, but in case some lurker might've missed it or for some strange reason you want to see it again.

Nice, Pete. Thanks. All the other stuff we do, politics, wars, work - it's for family. (Well, ought to be. Some folks are sorta confused.)

Recently got to vicariously share a cousin's family's trip to Colorado through photos on his blog.' Milady Webworker's family has some social network page (FB?) for their mother's family photos & memorabilia.

It's nice to have an age when we can pass around family photos so easily.

Even family I only barely know through places like PoliNation.

Massacre of the birds in the quest for clean energy

• Some experts put bird incinerations at the 300,000-mirror California solar array at nearly 30,000 per year
• The $2.2 billion plant is the world’s largest and company BrightSource wants to build one even larger
• The proposed new 75-story plant would be located near the massive bird sanctuary of the Salton Sea
• Authorities call the smoke trails left by scorched birds ‘streamers’

“Clean” energy. Yup, positively Edenic. Also, googlesearch: windmill+noise+dangerous.

We have both windfarms and eagle sanctuaries in too close proximity around here. Such insanity. AmerIndians of tribes that want eagle feathers for ceremonial reasons would commit a federal felony to even touch a fallen eagle pinfeather. But windfarms can julienne them.

A modern nuclear power plant could be the best, cleanest, most reliable, stable, effective, and safe power generation. And environmentally beneficial. I have read (was it here?) about how the security zones around nuke plants have become excellently flourishing wildlife preserves (compared to areas intended as such)?

I do have a few qualms about nuclear energy.

The mountain, already prepared and waiting AFAIK, where the Enviros won’t allow to the waste to go.

Also, that guy I used to know who talked about how down in the great big pipes of the nuclear plant which he was helping to weld together was a great place to smoke pot. Maybe he was one of those minority of folks who gets more focused instead of loopy-stoned on weed… nawww, he wasn’t. 8O
