Ran over a nest of bees with the rider mower once. Turned it off, sat there vewy vewy qwiet. Realized they were those stingerless would-bees. Still, walked away quietly, then came back much later for the mower.

Great thing about most Yankovick, familiarity with whatever he's parodying is not only unnecessary to appreciate his version, it's sometimes detrimental. I watched Royals all the way through, waiting for ... anything redeeming, even though I'd been warned. Then I watched Foil, which is a masterpiece. No relation.

Have photos of them tearing down the old cement plant stacks a few years back. Took them forever. "Build well and solidly," my grandfather wrote, "and you will find your buildings are good investments." A fellow who worked for him looked at our concrete house one day and said, "Your granddaddy sure loved putting steel in cement." Then he shook his head and said it again with stronger emphasis on "sure."

Grampaw ran a cement plant, back in the middle of the last century.
I'm told he put a little cement into the paint used on structures, like the old concrete barn out there. Fellow came by once trying to sell paint. My grampaw's man asked him, see those barns? That paint job (a little faded) is 70 years old. Will your paint last like that? Salesman had to allow his product couldn't compete. He wasn't let in on the secret.
So I was told. I've done it. I'll let you know how well it worked in 70 years.

I've been wondering just where does "Destroy Hamas" take them? For one thing, so I read, the Hamas leaders are safely over in Qtar with their loot, and so it's mostlly pawns and lower-level dupe leaders actually in Gaza. For another thing, how do you tell Hamas from the non-Hamas ("without a scorecard")? This is besides seeking out and utterly destroying all the tunnel substructures and any other bases for them. (Last night's tunnel-blowing video sure gave a good hint how incredibly extensive is that weasel warren.
I mean, is there - really, has there ever been - any safe point beyond complete re-taking of the whole territory and evacuation of, basically, everyone there? Not that the neighbors have ever been very good about taking in Palestinian refugees, but that's not Israel's problem.

That's what drove me out of bed this morning. Fortunately, I slept almost an hour and a half late, so I wasn't too badly hit by the thought. I might have despaired, but hungy and demanding pets gave me reason to go on living... that, and a beautiful morning and the prospect of just finding out what happens next, as my 92yo mother is fond of saying.
