Upbreeding corn for juicier, sweeter, disease resistace, bigger, poppier (?), etc., over generations, versus splicing corn DNA with some bits of virus or lamb DNA, to exaggerate for the sake of emphasis and humor: That there may be significant difference between these is an unwarranted concern?

Might introducing what is basically an entirely new food into a large population in one generation cause far worse allergic reactions or digestive difficulties or who knows what else, than naturally-upbred foods to which populations adapted over generations?

Shouldn't conservatives consider that this rapid introduction of laboratory chimeras is Big Ag making the general population their guinea pigs? again?

Theoretically. So I've heard. Just to advocate diabolically.

Mmmm. Corrnnnnn.

Lincolntf: "Christianity that doesn't allow tipping? New one on me. What denomination is that? I'm trying to think if I've ever heard that before and I don't think so."

The Congregation of God Will Take Care of You So I Don't Have To?

Yeah, weird, huh? "And yet... it happened!"

There's more than one couple have done this to her, so I don't know if it's some congregation, or just a thing some folks have come up with and read about on their how to interpret the Bible to save money blog. But, it's in the Bible!

Daughter has done a lot of table-waiting. Two non-tipper or low-tipper types stand out.

One is the folks who leave a little printed note about how their Christianity doesn't let them tip. Seriously. But serve us! Now!

The other is folks who don't understand the whole [draws breath] "below-minimum-wage-salary but tipping-minimum-based-on-sales presumed income for tax purposes" way things are set up: that basically, your server works for one boss, the restaurant, to deliver orders and take the prepared food away, and also works for another boss, the customer, waiting for you to dither over what kind of salad dressing you'll have (oh, the Ranch, then, I suppose), delivering the food taking away your cruddy plates... and that second boss is expected to show appreciation after the whole performance (like a street performer or something; yet when it works, good servers make out very well and if paid in cash hint hint might get more than the taxman-presumed minimum and then not report it because of having accidentally lost their cash records in a tragic boating accident on Dec 31).

In short, folks who don't tip because they're stupid about how it works, and folks who don't tip because they're religiously stupid about how it works.

Conspiracy theories on the plane shootdown
Daily Mail
http://dailym.ai/Wq7qiY

Did you know that Obama had ordered the CIA to shoot down Putin's plane which was apparently on the same path forty minutes later, and they hit the passenger plane by mistake? The #loosebear (cub) has bragged about being real good at killing after all. A miss is as good as a hit with 295 dead. Moar jokez plz Mr Prezzy!

Also, 295 => 2 + 9 + 5 => 16 => 1 + 6 = 7. So, there y'go!

And, of course, the last Malay Air missing and this one are the same plane. (Which would explain the previously-mentioned report of the bodies being decomposed - look! It's Zombie Rod Serling!)

Pug Adom: "'...you didn't really expect me to pay for everyone, did you?' ... 90% are cheap assholes."

Reminds me of whatever it was Chelsea Webb Clinton said the other day about, I tried to get into money, but I just couldn't. They have no idea how it works for normal lives.

A top pro-Russia rebel commander in eastern Ukraine has given a bizarre version of events surrounding the Malaysian jetliner crash - suggesting many of the victims may have died days before the plane took off.

The pro-rebel website Russkaya Vesna on Friday quoted Igor Girkin as saying he was told by people at the crash site that "a significant number of the bodies weren't fresh," adding that he was told they were drained of blood and reeked of decomposition.

This darn cell thingy posts when I don't want it to, doesn't post when I want it to. Darned cell thingy. The technicians tell me the problem lies between keyboard and chair, but I don't see the connection...

Cat was a seeker. His songs had that quality of being just-off from finding, pretty common in that regard. By the time of Buddha and the Chocolate Box, I thought he was starting to Get It, and then he left-turned into Islam and quit music.

At the time, I was kind-of happy for him. He seemed to have found Something after so much desperate seeking. Not my Something, but if it brought him peace, cool. Seemed weird to me it would be Islam. But, whatever.

I've since better come to understand (cough* 9/11 *cough) that Islam has two faces. One face could be seen in that happy situation comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie, where Muslims were just other religious Canadians, normal neighbors. Yet you don't see a massive denunciation of the Jihadist faction by all those "normal" Muslims. That makes one face seem two-faced.

Now, I was raised in the Episcopal church, the origins of which are nothing to brag about, but the folks were decent. Is Islam inherently irredeemable, or can "reformed" Muslims ignore most of Mohammed and join civilization while still being "Muslim"? I know plenty of Christian folks who let me know I'm not "Christian." Of course, they're not trying to kill me as an apostate.

As one who grew up in the church of Henry the Beheader, I do give some theoretical bene of the doubt to theoretical "normal" Muslims. And I will extend that bene to all of those who actually denounce the Jihadis. And Koranic fundamentalism with its mighty nasty teachings.

So, yeah, that's why Peace Train boy is out there on tour these days denouncing the mass murderers and enslavers of women.

Isn't he?

Took my time writing that babble so others could wake up and chime in. Don't want to front-load the morning blog with my words. Save us, Vic Kanobi!

With the cool weather, we have the windows open and the fans off. Nice and quiet. Which means Defender Dog can hear the remotest coyote call or dog bark, and like a madcap commenter had to keep getting his 2c in... at 4 in the morning. Finally quieted down after I yelled at him enough. Then I tried to go back to sleep and juuust as I think I'm about to drift off, my body said, no, no, you must wake up, there's a fresh thread on Ace. F'ing bod.

Heavier fog this morning than yesterday, wrapping the yard in wonder.

Actually, my mama never said any such thing. In fact, she's always just been Mom, not mama. But I had a shot at first, and hadn't had coffee yet, so... the words, they spewed. Speaking of which, hi, Killerdog and NDH.

In the spirit of the beat-up perpvert post, vid-slideshows of some neighbors of mine (1 min. each). Not posted publicly, because reputation. I love my town, and don't mean to make fun of it, really, and wouldn't want this to be the viral "what I think of the town," but this is perps pix, and they are not exactly the cream of society. Anyway, I got some videdit practice out of it.

Okay, I watched the video, and I'm convinced that the woman filming is about as well-informed as Crazy Sprinkler Lady. All grown men = migrant workers looks confirmed to me.

Possible false-info report. FYI, I haven't watched the video.

I read, on Ace, from different sources, including someone who had heard from somebody who lives in the area, that this (apparently the same video they were discussing) is a busful of legal migrant workers, who can't get driver's licenses, and for whom their employers provide this transportation to go shopping. That's what I read, anyway.

(Don't know about the EBT cards, but that migrant workers would have EBTs, illegally of course, isn't that big a surprise. But a separate matter. They've probably had them for a long time. @@ )

So, you might want to double-check this.

Guess I'll have to go watch the video now. Find out what I'm talking about.

Adam: "Simon has jwest on his side. He wins the internetz."

First I thought, wait! Their styles are so similar, is Simon a jwest sock? And he's encouraging himself.

Second, I thought, oh, I see. Simon is below jwest in the pecking order, so jwest encourages him to keep Simon around to make jwest actually look better by contrast.

Third, I thought, the second plan does not necessarily obviate the first ploy.

Fourth, I denounced myself for my hive-minded attitude toward these two valuable AoS commenters, and I would like to encourage them both to hang around because they make us other folks who are low on the totem pole (and not certified handshake-knowing clique members) look better by comparison.

Fifth, I need to go do some things now, obviously. Other things.
