cth > My brother still likes to tell about the day Hans Bethe helped his baby sister with her homework.

Hans Bethe - had me jump to Wikipedia. "Freeman Dyson, once one of his students, called him the 'supreme problem-solver of the 20th century.'" Quite a mind!

cth> why a 4 year old has subtraction homework

It seemed wrong to me that a kid that age would have homework like that. More Early Learning madness. Hate the way they treat young minds now.

Not that a child can't be taught basics early, but you do it with, say, blocks, game-play where the tyke can plainly see that one take away one equals none. Conveying concepts, though, not "doing problems," at that age.

I liked that the 911 officer didn't really do anything with the first problem except say, "that's a tough one, what else y'got?" Really gentle.

We presume it was a slow time for any other 911 calls…

"Like giving a loaded gun to a toddler." - EC

Ha!

Reload time on a long-running thread is prohibitive sometimes for some of us just with text. I can magine comments full of imbedded graphics, vids, and tweets! Contet of said embeds being a separate barrel of worms.

If all of those could just not load except on demand, it could work. #twoweeks

"Not only that, but different colours, fonts, and embedded pics too! *sighs*" - EC

Embedded pics? Really? Wow. Did not know that. Before I got here.

I remember when folks figured out how to put text outside the boxes, though. I think many facilities were lost when that was 'fixed.'.

As long as Ace is happy, though, what difference does it make?

Fred Gwynne in My Cousin Bunny, right after he overheard Pesci mumble "There's a fuching surprise," asks, What did you say? Peach says, What? What'd I say.

And Gwynne's face goes through the most amazing sequence of contortions of rage and frustration.

I liked him in Car 54 (u was young). Never cared much for the Addams Family rip-off, but I was glad he had work. But he was born to play Judge Chamberlain Haller!

I've proposed we get Vic a WiFi and a tablet so he can take us out to the rocking chair with him.

The world is made up of those who think and those who think they think.

Those who think seek Truth because truth, morality, and reason are all part of clear thinking. Those who think they think have no Truth. Lies are fine, morals are situational, feelings trump reason.

Those who think can clearly see the difference. Those who think they think think they see the difference, but are only engaging in projection.

Spectacular sunrise. With the overcast, the sky began reddening in the East and soon the whole sky was a gradation of bright red and coral pink. That lasted a while, then faded swiftly to a tangerine glow on the horizon, just as a light rain began falling. I didn't even know the rain had begin until I smelled damp earth.

Thunder continues. Summer Oklahoma storms can be beautiful. Doggie's fears aside.

Did I type long enough to bring the morning thread k Did I? Huh?

"...who flies a 747 from DAL to AUS...?"

You don't expect the Pampered Won to take the bus, do you? Or change planes, when AF1 is so comfy and carries all his stuff? Peasant!

In the little news clip I saw of Nero fiddling, he was lining up a pool shot and nearly cued the Governor behind him right in the hicklegrubers.

Coffee's cooking. Signs of daylight. Defender Dog wants to go out and play, but keeps running back to me. I think he wants me to make it quit thundering.

Howdy, Gnu, Poppins.

On to important news: Does anyone know if the SCOAMF shoots pool any better than he shoots hoops ... or throws a baseball?

Teej, Anna, Apprentice, howdy.

We've got thunder rolling in. Figured I'd just get up before Defender Dog came complaining to me about it .

Be nice to get some rain.

No sign of sun at 5:40? ack! Winter's coming!
