A little cross-pollination: Memorial Day post at Ace of Spades has some good tributes & moving memorials in the comments. As always; many good service members & related there.

In a comment there, I asked:

Almighty Commander of the Legions of Heaven, save our country, replace our misguided representatives, enshrine Constitutional Republicanism in the hearts of the citizenry, protect liberty’s defenders, and make their assigned missions rare, just, and swiftly won.

I would here add, probably more appropo of the day:

Great Comforter, strengthen and comfort those who have seen war, and all those who have lost friends and loved ones to battle.

Your Will be done on earth as it is on heaven.

Have a day, friends. :)

There’s a lot of funny stuff in the “it will go by too fast, one time, no one will ever notice” category from the days before home players, before re-runs, and when movies only came around once. Or, recent but just sloppy works.

Is it kind-of similar with “continuity” in a long-running series. You’d think nobody would notice or care that you got some minor character’s home planet’s name “wrong,” but noooooo….

We can cut some slack for interrupting our suspension of disbelief. (Your “I get it” point about not really wrecking vintage cars, for example.) The more realistic the medium, the less so, though. We’d not get much put off by a prop failure in a live stage performance, but in film, it would be a real speed bump: Star Trek, Amok Time? or some other episode, fight scene, the stand-in was so obviously not Shatner one wondered, “who’s that guy? where’d he come from? where’d Kirk go?” :D

Some time back, parsed over three mornings, I think, I posted an excerpt from my Uncle Ed's book, War Stories. He was in the Red Circle Division (71st) in Europe in 1945. I chose a passage with rowdiness, booze, and odd encounter with a superior, thinking that would be a good one to share with the morons.

I had zilch response, so I just assumed there wasn't interest in my posting more, but, considering the day, thought I'd fish.

A day for folks like me who never served to just say, thanks.

I was 2-S 'til I dropped out of college, then "won" the draft lotteries.

One of the first things I did at college in 1970 was research how in heaven America had got embroiled in Viet Nam. No web. Library books and microfilche. (I was an idiot, too; I could've got a course credit for the work I did on my own.) Walter Cronkite had confused me. I needed to know more. I was surprised, for example, to find our involvement went back to Truman.

I never sided with the anti-war crowd, despised the ones who spit on vets, and wondered why Jane Fonda wasn't hung, but I didn't think the war or the draft were being run sensibly. I still think the same way, especially, why would you be in a fight if not to win?

I missed "my" war. I'm not all that disappointed, as I probably would've sneezed in the jungle and given our position away. There were no men raising me, certainly not any who would suggest the military might be a good idea. Can't say as I raised my sons to sign up, either, although I can see how both might have benefited. But I have taught them Respect, I hope.

I've got nothing.

But I'm glad to share it.

There you go.

Everybody have a safe what's left of the weekend.

Thank you, US Military People, one and all, past, present, and the hard hard future. Your dedication and sacrifices are ultimately, absolutely worth it... no matter how things may look with our nation at the moment.

Pretty rose photo by milady, from 1 yr ago, linked in nic. Take time to stop & smell the.

Good night, Gracies.

Sic ‘em, Ted! (Thanks, chrissie.)

This guy just says he can’t say, can’t talk about. They’ve learned how to answer better than when the director of the FBI knew nothing.

Link is to my slapdash video mockery from 2013 Jun 14.

BTW, on here, I link to vids, both mine and other folks’, rather than embed. It’s not because I’m trying to drive hits to my lonely site or anything. ;)
I’m just not always sure whether it would be appropriate — for whatever reasons — to embed. When I’m confident it would be okay, I’ll embed, like the replacement baby moose vid. But ye PoliNators are always welcome to use my graphics and vids here yourselves, and even to edit my comments to turn a link into an embed if you feel so inclined. FTR

You know, I might be willing to side with bending the rules when it seems a decent thing. I support real-world flexibility — it’s why we have human judges, not automatons.

Incumbent failed to get enough signatures because somebody miscounted, but you know they could’ve? Technical oversight. Close enough. Both sides could shrug and say, yeah, ok, on with the debates.

Here in Okla., Republicrats and Demoplicans have suppressed 3rd-party candidates for many years with absurdly high requirements, so on this issue of ballot access, I’d be especially willing to flex.

Except, of course, the scandal is, as in this case, Regressive Justice has one eye peeking out and a fat thumb on the scales, so it is not evenhanded. The Other party might get the hammer even if they had abundant signatures.

Which is kinda why we’re supposed to stick to the rules, as a rule….

Did I go full circle there, or just 180°?

“What does this even mean?”

I’m not entirely sure of the phrase’s origins, much less its applicability to BHO, but this music video seems appropriate (language & mild scat humor warning, so I’m linking not embedding).

We interrupt your morning with this blurb.

#Ban Bossy Obama parody bumper stickers (buy in bulk and save, only $100/50) and removable car magnets. What kind of mean-spirited h8r does these awful things about our poor, retarded, affirmative action leader? (nic link)

Couple more designs later today if I can get to 'em.

Jeralean Talley, who was born May 23, 1899, went fishing last year and still gets around on her own with the help of a walker. She is the oldest living American in the United States.

...plans to celebrate with family and friends at a local church on Sunday.

On her actual birthday - Friday - Talley is going to the doctor for a checkup, although she says she doesn't feel sick.

But Talley's knees occasionally hurt, her right hand shakes, she has a hard time hearing and her memory comes and goes.

Her answer as to why she has lived so long hasn't changed over the years.

'It's all in the good Lord's hands,' Talley told the Detroit Free Press. 'There's nothing I can do about it.'

"It was purely by chance last night for ONT" - Carol

See? She can really put on the sweet & innocent act! Meanwhile, she's refreshing the page, fingers poised, racing helmet at a jaunty angle...

Seriously, Carol, it is a funny thing to stumble upon a fresh, uncommented post; like an undiscovered country... where one gets to throw out the first beer can litter.
