Heard Rush (rerun) on the way home. Apparently, John F'ing Kerry says that the official US position is that because the Nigerian government banned gay marriage, Boko Haram is an oppressed minority which is just protesting their oppressive oppressedness by standing in the way of those girls' education.

Apparently, Boko Haram are not terrorists, but a much-maligned, oppressed community of armed hairdressers and interior decorators, fighting for homosexual rights or something.

I ... think I got that sorta-mostly right. I might have just imagined the hairdressers and interior decorators part.

A Houseplant Report

Son started an avocado before he moved away. It was stuck in the dark, untended, for many weeks when I rescued it, somehow still with a couple of not-dead leaves. It's doing well, has many healthy leaves now, just started sending up new leaves for May. Needs repotting, now that it's stronger. A little stunted, perhaps; a cruelly-created dwarf? Or it may start normal growth. We'll see.

Any old Mad fans who recall the gangly potted plant that occasionally cropped up anywhere in the magazine, that's what it looks like, hence the name, Arthur.

That kind of confusion of purpose described in your comment seems more insidious than a "pet evil." At least, in my thinking, if one tends to know one's flaws, at a relatively conscious level, there's that, "I really should cut back / quit / change," regardless of delay from weakness of will. The kind you later say, wish I'd stopped sooner.

What your quote describes seems more of the "way that seems right... but leads to death." Almost the opposite of the "I need to reform" shame, an "I don't need to change" pride.
