"Pray like everything depends on God,
Work like everything depends on you."

"God helps those who help themselves."

"Don't expect God to fix all your material problems."

These statements reflect the religion in which I was raised - not the teachings of a church, but the religion imbibed from the attitudes of the people around me.

There was no expectation of providential intervention. Prayer helps open our minds to better ways, but is not a means to change the will of the Almighty. Anything "miraculous" consisted of an individual becoming reformed, not sudden healing or mass feedings with a single picnic basket.

It wasn't that miracles were ruled out. They just happened to someone else, somewhere and somewhen else, like seeing a meteor land, not to us.

Praying for the miraculous divine intervention was "wishing in one hand...." Acceptance, endurance, strength to face the assaults of another day, for those one might ask, but not the cessation of the assaults. That was just, life.

I've had many experiences of the extraordinary fortuitous coincidence, and I continue to cultivate consciousness of the paternal watchcare of the Creators, but there's always a "reasonable explanation," the seemingly miraculous just showing up as part of the flow of events, not as evidently supernatural. So, not really different than the bad things that befall us, which we might attribute to diabolical influences. A reasonable person can't really deduce anything more than that stuff happens, and we can't know the complex web of antecedant causes, but we do have to deal with the consequences, and that gets back to acceptance, endurance....

Also, better days to come. I was raised to think prayers for that were okay.

"How can Rove be on Fox as an "analyst" when he's got a monetary interest in the primaries." —Captain Hate

Faux News.

Car radio is my only direct contact with the LaughingStock Media. Night before last, driving home, flipped between the two "conservative talk radio" stations for the on-the-hour newscasts, one carrying Fox news, the other, which used to carry Fox, has ABC.

Both broadcasts had the same list of stories in the same order. It was as if I was tuning to just one newscast, the reports followed such similar scripts. First, White House says OMG Global warmening is fer Realz. Second, Monica is famously unhappy about being the famous repository of Presidential manipulation. Third story, I forget what. Fox is just RINO at best, DIABLO more like.

And, as I always say when we listen to the 2-minute propaganda broadcasts, "this is not news." Wish we could get the Vic-scripted news syndicated!

Now, I'm off to feed the furry four-footed members of the house.

bet the picture posts would be great fun in town on the big screen with the big net pipe. Out here on the fringe on the tiny screen with a strangled connection, not so much fun. Not even my device, had to borrow one.

Anyway, what am I doing up so late? I can't even read comments. I'll have to read the Recap in the a. m.

.. recap? I'm dreaming already...

Good night, Gracies.

FenelonSpoke, thanks for the Okla. gallery. I'll try to remember to find that again when I get to the desktop with the big screen.

For having no rugged peaks or oceans, Okla. has quite a variety of environments. Spans from the great Ark-Miss drainage area across the rising prairie to the foothills of the Rockies (almost, at the far end of the panhandle), from the green hills and streams of the NE to the dry grasslands of the SW.

I've been trying to figure the best way to post Milady's nature pix, to encourage her to do more. I like seeing my native state through her eyes, figure others might as well. Since I don't have one of her Okla. landscapes handy, she has fun doing super closeups, so, here's one I stole a while back.

1945 Mar 26, Ed, a good man fom Oklahoma, still in a suit instead of uniform, leaves his pal Stubby in line at the sex bunker.]

I was walking alone, through the dark streets of Speyer, wondering just where our billet was when a U.S. Army jeep pulled up alongside of me. The driver said he was lost and wanted to get to the very address where Company "G" was billeted. When I approached the Jeep I recognized it was driven by a very drunk Captain Bass, our company commander. Captain Bass was too much regular army to be well liked by the troops. He felt rank was everything, officers were part of royalty, and enlisted men were scum. In my full dress suit, I doubt if he could have recognized me even if it was daylight and he were sober. I introduced myself and assured the captain I could drive him safely to our billet. Very pleased and relieved, the captain moved over and let me take the wheel. What a sight! If only General Patton could have seen two drunks, driving around the streets of Speyer, one a Captain of Company "G" and the other a buck private, out of uniform but in full dress evening attire.

My turn at the wheel didn't last long. I came to what I thought was a corner, turned down a dead end alley and crashed head-on into the side of a building. Neither of us was hurt, but Captain Bass said it was time for him to take over the driving. Somehow he got us back to our billet, and we both agreed we would never discuss the incident. There was no need for me to discuss it anyway. I doubt if I could have ever gotten anyone to believe that, while formally dressed, I had a private chauffeur home and that my chauffeur was none other than our chicken-shit company commander, the hated Captain Bass.

"...would it hurt for these idiots to fear the most powerful military ever just a little bit?"
—Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest

Enemies of liberty should respect American might, wisely weilded in our own defense.

Friends and enemies alike fearing random insane American attacks seems an unhealthy policy in the long-term.

I regret to announce I will not be making an appearance on the ONT this evening, as I am extemporaneously in capacitors. My virtual avatar will be appearing ever and anon, but only if you have the super-platinum subscription with the 4D glasses.

Howsomever, I am here among you in spirit, oh, Night of Over Thread People, whether that spooks you or not, and I am in spirit certainly not fizzling out after a few hundred years. Yet. Probably crowd-surfing, in spirit. Hurts less when they drop you.

And, on this noble anniversary of the Hindenberg roast, the day when the Future of Skies Filled with Dirigibles was Schroedinger's Kitteh'd out of possibility, may I say, in special honor of the Moron Horde,

Oh, the camraderie!

My tl;dr du jour.

The question of what the neighbor kids or relatives are watching or playing that your kids are exposed to is a really tough one. We were pretty restrictive. Glad our kids are grown up. But, they'll have kids soon (I hope), so it'll circle around.

But it points up something that somebody quite a while back said on AoSHQ - I wish I could find it again - what we call individual liberty or rights as we understand them is not really about individuals in isolation. If you believe these things and you want to live this way, but everyone around us thinks differently, is tyrannical, basically, then, you can't live free.

Under seige, we're becoming, or may become, isolated communities, of people who think alike who understand alike, isolated in common defense against the world. Isolated academically, socially, and geographically.

Homeschoolers I know certainly associate with each other with just this intent. These would be Christian people mostly. They have associations which allow their kids to mingle with like minded people. ("Who are my brothers?")

You don't want to become out of contact, but you have to defend yourself against constant, wearying exposure to the regressive society elements. It would be best if the moral and righteous civilization was the predominant one, but if not, gathering in self-defense is necessary to have the civilization you want.

___

BTW, If you're looking for somewhere, Oklahoma can be very hot and very cold and very, very windy, and now also featuring added slightly-quakey, but it is the most consistently conservatively-voting state in this nation of states. Milady says she always likes to add, home schooling is part of Oklahoma's Constitution. Could always use more defenders here, to counter the assault of them folks on the coasts YKWIM. If you're looking for somewhere.
