» Also, anyone see the Oklahoma earthquake warning "due to fracking."

Yeah, the science is settled. We squirt a little juice into the earth and the Gaia Spirits get all upset and start turning and tossing in their sleep. We may have to sacrifice a few Christians or Tea Partiers to appease them. For science!

The OK quakes are unusual, though. A relatively new geologic phenomenon. Someone suggested the stresses that caused Madrid to crack 200 years ago might have moved west. Oh, joy. I was concerned about just being to close to Madrid!

Or fracking. Yeah, that must be it, because Bush.

[Ed did not have time to change out of a suit into his uniform — regs notwithstanding — before heading out with the guys.]

I soon found out what the attraction at the DP [displaced persons] camp was: a barracks full of French ladies entertaining several members of the American Army. Champagne was flowing and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The whole scene reminded Stubby and I of the orgy we had witnessed only two nights earlier on the floor of the underground wine cellar. The barracks was typical of all the other barracks I had seen. Bunk beds on each side of an aisle down through the center of the barracks. Something was different though. In each bunk bed was a French mademoiselle and an American G.I. Everyone was so occupied, the soldier in the tuxedo with long tails, white shirt and tie was scarcely noticed. I decided it was time for me to return to our billrt. Try as I may, I could not convince Stubby it was time to go. He wanted to stand in line in hopes of taking his turn in sharing some pleasures with one of the mademoiselle's.

I see the words honor and rectitude used above.

Nobody (generally) knows those words exist, much less their meaning, nor the values they're meant to convey.

Those silly anachronistic words. Like buggy whip holders, just no longer meaningful in our progressive society. Antiquated thinking, obsolete as the Boy Scout pledge.

Now, pay your taxes.

By chance (yeah, right), I happened to touch on this healing of the blind man just a few days ago. You’ll be shocked, I’m sure, to be informed that I took a somewhat different angle of approach than chrissyth:

But not utterly different. When chrissy said it “just grossed me out,” it reminded me of this line from what I wrote:

“Suddenly, there was mud on his eyelids. WTF, thought Josiah? That’s spit!”

Also funny, when I published it on my site, I used the same pic chrissy used above. Image Search We Much?

BoB, that’s modern-looking-back thinking. While much myth & folklore has a basis in observation, I figure this has a low chance of being right. Like when folks surmise that pork was forbidden because of trichinosis. Had nothing to do with, you know, Divine Command. Just sanitation. @@ The general idea that fortune meant blessings and misfortune meant punishment was something Jesus had to deal with a lot. And we still do today.

Sometimes things jump out at ya, sometimes they creep up on ya.

Sometimes both.

“Glynn was a producer on several of the films and worked with Moore for at least 20 years. The couple otherwise has no children.”

Otherwise? Otherwise?? Otherwise???

This is what happens when you devalue the meaning of “children,” I guess. “Why, yes, they had several babies together, of course, dah-ling, artistically speaking-wise. And we’re just wondering, naturally, who will get custody in the settlement, and who will have to pay ‘child’ support.”

Leading to the unavoidable thought that children like that justify abortion, but that’s so awful I wouldn’t say it. (Oops. Sorry, sorry.)

A little something different:

_____

There were several important rules a soldier had to live by. An important rule was never volunteer for a combat patrol. We knew the Germans were well dug in on the east bank. We had heard a patrol from Company "E" of our 2nd battalion had crossed the river early this morning and had suffered several casualties.

Our initial, almost lighthearted, response to Lt. Jones was words to the effect, "Throughout our lives we have heard a lot of dumb questions, but to ask us at a time like this if we wanted to volunteer for patrol across the Rhine was no doubt the dumbest question we had ever heard." To this day I still remember it is the dumbest question I have ever been asked.

Morning, Glories. Hope everybody is as well as can be expected for a Monday.

I went looking for something entirely else this morning when Uncle Ed's book leapt off the shelf at me. Ed is my only true Uncle, and a wonderful man, with some amazing stories.

I've mentioned on here before, after trudging across Europe, Ed was readying for the invasion of Japan. Instead, he gets to see his great-great grandchildren. Thank you, Professor Oppenheimer!

After the only conscious person leaves the room, for contrast, you get just that snippet of the brainless, spineless boob on the right spewing mealy-mouthed garbage. “Well, Bob, I think yes and no about whatever you asked because I’m a one-dimensional robot with limited software. Beeep! Derp!” And all of them just sit there and go on like nothing happened. Do-dee-doh.

And Callahan… I gather he’s being celebrated virally for this. Rightly, of course, but how sad that it has become notable to behave as any normal person should in a room full of childish hostiles and infantile idiots.

Isn’t the video age wonderful, though. Whatever propaganda the con artists posing as reporters were planning, one video trumps all their words.

I'm confused. Is this an open thread or reserved for politics?

I was sitting here working when things got real quiet. Then the battery backup starts beeping. We are powerless. (I'm on the cell.)

Earthquake? Tornado? Terrorist attack? Forgot to pay the bill? Nope. Nope.

Across the highway and two doors down, a semi leaving the grocery store caught on power lines and snapped two poles. Wonderful chaos.

Going to be a while getting that one fixed!

Not sure how to make this political.

Darned infrastructure! I blame, hmmmm... Bush.

Linked to this on my “blog heap o’links,” which I’m striving to be reviving but ain’t got much yet. I mean, it’s not like anyone will see it there soon, but the heap was originally just my own “bookmarks” jazzed up. :)

chrissy, I admit I don’t always take the time to pursue all your connections in your various fascinating posts. I’d like to go back over all (or almost all?) of ‘em, to get a better picture of the larger patterns you touch on. Or, seem to touch on, when I can follow what you’re saying. (It’s me :) ) But, like this post shows, even when what you’re doing is basically speculating, a/k/a making things up (heh), you do so with such knowledge and skill! What you surmise is so reasonable as to suggest it’s high likelihood!

And, even if it’s not true, it does reflect Jesus’ manner, I’d say; your research teaches and your speculations uplift as well.

Thanks for this. Keep digging!

Greetings, PoliNationals.

I don’t know how to get my cell to link to my account with the avatar. Primitive early 21st Century toys, all flash and no function.

I just don’t get enough time to peruse PN. Always glad when I get a chance.

Another in the same vein as the horror graphic above, featuring Boston bomber Tiretread.

Old Dog: OCD -Often Cloddish Disorder.

Have recently adjusted my meds. Does it show? I may have to give up the Columbian and go back to the less potent Mexican.

Coffee. What were you thinking of?

The entrance exam for joining the AoSHQ is not exactly Mensa level: if you can find your way past the Pixy guardians and don't get banhammered after that, you're in. Even semi-trolls who will not here be named but who hang around, apparently, for the abuse. So, low bar, tehnically.

But there's technically & there's community.

I've been here many moons now, lurking and twerking, presumably implicitly accepted to a degree even my rampaging self-abnegating paranoia can't ignore. Still I often feel like a newbie, or fringe lurker, no matter how many local memes I can parrot.

Then this morning I read that, last night, after my sign-off comment, well-cut weft bid me a "good night, fellow moron." I think that's the first time I was thus identified. Funny how it coincided with getting a little dust in my eye. Almost as if this silly place has come to mean something to me.

We all have our disorders.
