'Twas technology insisted upon Daylight Savings and Time Zones. Whale oil and train schedules.

Well, technology advanced. Almost everyone today has ready access to devices easily capable of calculating your geo-local sun time. Down with Time Zones! Away with evil DST! Local sun time - go natural!

MWW "Hold That Ghost" was one of our boys favorite movies when they were little. They never took any horror / scary flicks seriously after that.

"...And I say that as an ette." —Infidel

Since the days of BBS and CompuServe, I've been cautious of presuming gender even when it seems obvious. Infidel falls into my "never thought about it" area, but I'm surprised, so I guess I'd presumed male.

§

We like to know. It's important. That's what makes the gender-benders insidious.

All the folks who say it doesn't matter about gender remind me of the experiment asking people to describe some babies.

Dressed in blue diapers. the babies would be described as strong, handsome, etc. Same babies, in pilnk diapers, adults would describe as sweet, pretty, etc. Dressed in yellow (!) diapers, people would actually peek in the diapers before rendering as opinion.

Morning, Glories. Yes, I'm here. I've been waiting for you... lurking in the shadows....

? ?

I saw the ballet Dracula last night. Daughter made a great gypsy Romani, shimmying, shaking, and banging tambourines. (Best part of the show.)

To help her study the nearly-lost art of shimmying, I played her a clip of Charo someone had posted here. Study the masters, I always say.

Nevertheless, ballet is prancing mimes, and horror genre without Abbott & Costello never appealed to me, yet I endured. I think I may even go back for this afternoon's performance.

Apologies to those who read my refried jokes on the ONT.

Hellow, fellow sophisticates. I just returned from seeing cultuah! Even wore my tie and my shiny shoes. Yes, and pants!

We saw the ballet performance of Soili Arvola's Dracula. Yes, one of my least favorite genre in one of my least favorite media! Ballet is prancing mimes, and monster stories should always feature Abbott and Costello IMHO, but it was okay.

Daughter made a great gypsy. (sorry) Romani. She wasn't sure she could shimmy well enough, so I showed her some Charo someone had posted here. Always told my kids, learn from the best. She did.

"...however, this field is not the place for religion," wrote program director Adrienne Dougherty. "We have many patients who come to us for treatment from many different religions and some who believe in nothing. If you interview in the future, you may want to leave your thoughts and beliefs out of the interview process."

Um... whatever the position, whatever the applicant's problems, qualifications, or savvy, this program director seems to me unqualified, both in plain understanding and in human relations. To say the least.

» He brought the TV remote upstairs and left it on my pillow yesterday. Not sure what that was about.

Big smile & chuckling. Whatever it was about, seems sweet.

Y-not, your pix of the new kitty looked kinda like a pale version of my yellow kitty Charlie - who is not Siamese, just plain domestic shorthair... but cute.

Enjoyed your contrasting the one you thought you'd get with the one you got. Good choice, I deem.

Somewhat random musing:

Are we a nation or a nation of nations? (Harks back to my childhood, wondering why there weren't fifty seats for us in the United Nations.)

That one state might go rogue and fail, entirely possible. That fifty states might go rogue and fail simultaneously, less unlikely. As we are seeing, although the infection is widespread, it is not universal. It may be mostly symbolic, but, in the past week, Oklahomans have welcomed Cruz, Lee, and Palin, while keeping Holder out.

The problem is the chains that states accepted over the past, what, hundred-fifty. Those chains they started adding well before there were fifty states. Those chains that, when California, New York, and Wisconsin jump off the cliff, pull all the rest of us down.

It's hard to imagine that the protection of being many states can truly be overpowered. That said, the Nation of the United States... we really aren't united that much anymore, not in the good ways.

Hey, yesterday in the dawn twilight, I stepped out the front door and recorded this:

Spring!

Wanted to put it up right away yestermorn, but first wanted to edit of loud nose at the end of the cut....

Been a while since I produced an audio, I realized the desktop program I have for converting WAV files to MP3s is a little bit dated... limited to eight-dot-three filenames.... So I edited & converted on the cell.

I need an upgrade. Just generally.

I know, it's confusing, isn't it, honey? We encourage you to catch unfeathered vermin, but discourage your eating tasty birds, and give you old canned fish and kibble.

Better than stealth, cunning, and claws: credit cards at the pet food store!

Did finally corner the exhausted, battered thing and got it back outside. It probably didn't live long, but at least it was back outside.

You supposed to catch it and kill it dumbass. I go through all that trouble of catching this thing to properly teach you how to hunt and disembowel it and then you let it go! You are one shitty cat and a sucky hunter.

aaaand... Life With Pets story for today.

Yesterday, Milady and I commenced the Herculean task of peeling back the layers of accumulated winter filth - a/k/a Spring Cleaning.

So, the door is open as I haul out garbage and dust bunnies flee. Suddenly we hear a shrill screeching, screaming. Sweet little black kitty had brought one of her feathered playmates inside. Again.

Naturally, instead of being herded back outside with her catch, she drops the bird... which then tries to flee through every uncurtained portal but the big open one. Hilarity ensued, with many feathers upon the freshly-vacuumed floors.

Did finally corner the exhausted, battered thing and got it back outside. It probably didn't live long, but at least it was back outside.

Morning, Glories.

If you read the ONT, you can learn all about military aviation, Radon gas threat (or lack thereof) and effects, and the history of central banking in the USA.

It's rather like trying to retrieve your cell dropped in the porta-potty, though. Is it really all that valuable?

Meanwhile, in the conspiracies file:

Leaked Email: U.S.G.S Yellowstone Supervolcano
http://youtu.be/RPccgGdiUvg
A guy reading an email he received from a "trusted friend" he "knew a long time ago" about how the SuperVolcano is coming, and "they" are covering it up.

4/16/2014 -- Yellowstone Unrest -- USGS installs new seismometers to monitor -- Pros say to PREPARE
Another guy talking, but he sounds more reasonable. He just says it's big earthquakes a-comin'.
http://youtu.be/-SsAJZCU4qc
More reasonable, I say, and persuasive... until he starts going of the rails at about 3:30.

And finally, just to show how far out on the fringe I traveled this evening,
Is Hitler Obama's Father?
http://youtu.be/XesDygYTmWo
With actual, true, unretouched photos of young Hitler in uniform among African natives, as the narrator says, "he blended in...."

A selection of other potential candidates for the President's sire is also available for your video enjoyment. AHHHGHGGG.

For no particular reason this evening, I went looking for video simulations of Yellowstone Supervolcano.

Of course, one video led to another, like eating cheetoes. Without the orange, but you still feel dirty. Especially after wandering into the Far Fringes of YouTube. Hollow Earth. Ghosts. UFOs. Time travelers. Sub-Antarctic civilizations. Faked Moon landings. I didn't realize there was such a huge Boston Bombing Truther industry.

My journey sort-of ended up here:
SciShow. Mostly dull. Explanatory. That guy explains the geology and a good map overlaying the past blow-ups.

I did run across the sinking of Japan. Unfortunately ends rather abruptly mid-destruction. But, as the uploader says, "I edited all the disaster parts for your pleasure."

And here's some good footage from Relatively Recent Harsh Reality, Mt. St Helens.

I have a few more to share, but that's the Disasters set.

Very funny. I saw the "faster than a speeding bullet" ad and I actually thought it was for armed self-defense, until I got to the big red End Gun Violence blob.

How could I have been so wrong?
