Rather than her typical hammerhead response, for lifelong friendship's and ain't-worth-it's sakes, Milady tried to feign disinterested ignorance. Her friend chided Milady: "Well, all you have to do is read the headlines!"

I stopped reading there. I've... had some experience with oppositional defiance and its argumentative cousins. Also some dealings with jingoism and provincialism. I'm thinking none of these is the case here.

You know why we know about Jesus' struggle in the Garden that night? Only because, while his adult apostles snoozed, a young man hid in the bushes and stayed close to his beloved Lord that night. Thank you, John Mark!

Lived out West much? Knew a rancher* in NM with 50,000 acres out in the middle of the Pecos Wilderness. You want to run cattle on their land, you deal with the Gummint. The relationship has been, not "friendly," but a necessary mutual tolerance. But this Nevada guy, yeah, seems to have some additional problems.

*Ol' Cliff was a character. Met him at O'Hare the day the USSR fell. As we watched it on the airport monitors, he recalled. "I remember their last revolution." Took a second to realize he was talking about 1917!

2nd night with the furnace off. We've nursed the 20 year old rattletrap along, and it has problems, but the last couple of days there, it sounded like it was dying. The AC half did at the end of the summer before last (NB: this is Oklahoma). So, big chunks change gonna be needed.

WTF happened to Opera? They were rolling along, doing fine, then suddenly, insanity. A survey, you say, Hat? Fine, but just begs the question what would induce them to do, or follow, such a thing.
