Every day the same. Get caught up just in time to feed the pesks, and by the time I get back, there will be tons more to catch up on. A conversational cornucopia.

So, today, y'all just wait for me, m'kay? I'll be right back. Unless I get distracted....

If you look at my nic on the ONT you will see how I dodge the barrel.

I'm not absolutely sure but I think Pixy now catches closers on our grand menu of three HTML tags, in the same way you & others do that, essentially.

At least, I've,dodged the barrel a couple of times that way. But I've noticed it can still be defeated sometimes. Wonder if two open tags without closers would do it.

I am not going to try it just to find out. That barrel smells funny.

The return of past memes is here from the Obama reign of terror. Spitting on people in uniform.

I was delighted to see that this was not entirely like Back in the Bad Old Days... the spitheads were arrested!

Good morning. Don't know about groundhogs, but looks like we've got a wintry week at least coming up. You'd almost think it was January or sumpin'.

Now off to read Poppins' tale and the links from Vic...

Two great bands of the 1970s: 10cc and the Tubes.
Both of whom did great funny jabs at the "art rock" scene of the time.

Posted by: qdpsteve

Ha! Yesterday, I had a clip from Second City TV of John Candy hosting a fishing show with guests The Tubes.

Daughter, who knows her music mostly, asked, Who are the Tubes. A stark gap in our cultural transmission! One fishing trip and Su Su Sushi later, along with a trip to Wikipedia, and the gap was closed! A dose of Tubes and SCTV and Candy at his goofiest, all at once.

Yeah, funny to see the Tubes mention at end of thread when I tune in.

I can't think of any other funny ensemble comedy-variety shows like SCTV, except early seasons of MadTV were up there. Nope, can't think of any other.

I did not make the ol top ten
or twenty, did not once again.
I'm happy on the list I'm not
It means so far
I've not been caught.

[Whole foods]
And no live lobster, but frozen tails.
I love when liberals chase their tails....

IIRC, WF in Tulsa has live lobsters. Don't get in there much, and don't go there for lobster... or batteries... but they don't seem to have a problem selling anything.

Of course, Tulsa despite itself, is still in Oklahoma.

OW! Oh, yeah. Time to feed the pesks.

From the ONT:

Again: never have nitrogen in an enclosed space -- there is no lead-up or warning, because it's 70% of air to start with. CO2 will cause panting and suffocation panic; helium will cause squeaky voices and other "WTF is going on?" phenomena.....but nitrogen is "clunk." YOUR SAFETY IS #1.

This made me think of the ongoing debate about uncruel and usual methods of execution. Nitrogen is cheap & plentiful. Am I missing something here?

I actually did try to listen to the latest AoS podcast. Didn't make it through the introductions.

But, more than I've listened to the SCOAMF.

Getting (wishing ain't) ...

Getting up : what you do after sleeping

Getting down : what you do at a dance

Getting left : what happens if you're late

Getting right : healthy if you're wrong

Getting forward : might get you laid, or slapped

Getting back: only Paul McCartney knows

Getting off : preferably with a partner

Getting on: in years

Getting it : what most people aren't

Sometimes here at home, I've got a little 4G LTE. This morning, I've got a couple dots of... G. Not even 3G. Just G. Slooow refreshing the ONT.

Not amenable to quick witticisms.

Sitting here drinking coffee, reading over the coffee wars discussions sauront for a morning thread.

I don't like burnt coffee, but I leave the pot on the burner at first because nuking the next cup takes too long.

It's not night. Time for overnight to be over.

Anyone here have issues with VOIP phone service like Magic Jack while streaming HD like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Pandora on their TV?
Posted by: ontherocks

I'm no netxpert nor use VOIP nor know what "issues" you've got, but my first thought was, "bandwidth?"

Son just called to warn me streets & highway are sheets of ice. Said when he put his car into park, it slid four feet backward down a slight incline. Might wait a little before charging out there. But, you know what?

The sun'll come out tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that
tomorrow there'll be sun.

Just thinkin' about tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs
and the sorrow till' there's none

When I'm stuck with a day
that's gray and lonely
I just stick up my chin
and grin and say oh

The sun'll come out tomorrow
So you got to hang on till' tomorrow,
come what may!
Tomorrow, tomorrow,
I love ya, tomorrow
You're always a day away

Another bit by way of Mr Drudge:
The Week:
http://bit.ly/1dgDFl5

"...The research reveals that states with more liberal representatives... tend to consume up to three times more alcohol per head than more politically conservative states..."

There's nothing about what is drunk (hard liq v wine, beer), or quality (Chateau LeFeet v Boone's Farm), just that quantitative measure.

So much for the drunken redneck flyover folks. Apparently, we're just not keeping up!

Then there's this speculation:

"The authors of this latest study offer two theories to explain this divergence in behavior. One possibility is that people of a more liberal persuasion tend to be more open to new experiences, such as the consumption of alcohol or drugs. Another possibility is that people living in more liberal states or countries may feel more confident in government health care and social welfare to pick up the pieces if drinking leads to health or social problems."

I can see the former easily enough. The latter, though reasonable considering the Statists' mentality, would require foresight and consideration, thought processes not greatly in evidence in the species. Perhaps it's more instinctual than thought through.

So I wandered over to Drudge and discover

"STUDY: People slow to react more likely to die prematurely..."

Well, yeah, duh.

Andrew Breitbart (would have been 45 today)

Note for pros: Don't dine with Bill Ayers.

I practically had just come to know about him when he left us. We say, he lives, but his fire is all too rare.
