Re nothing in particular:

I've always admired the work of political - editorial -cartoonists. Few interest me politically anymore, though, as I have become more aware of The Regressive Narrative and its many pushers.

To make a strong statement AND make a good cartoon is no easy thing. Too wordy, too many labels, poor caricature, trying to cram in too many messages, so many ways it can fall flat. Not good to do in a 2D medium.

It seems, with print's contraction, editorial cartooning is becoming a dying art. But I deem, it's part and parcel of the Regressives who are losing audience. Like Soviet propaganda, ham-handed ugly may reaffirm dogma among the nodding-along select, but they repulse the general attention-distracted population.

I don't know how to have political cartoons reach the masses as they used to in newspaper days, but there's a lot of great comics which I'd say more of the world needs to see.

Glenn McCoy does good old-fashioned ed. toons, scribbly style, but frequently dead on target with a sledgehammer.

Hope n Change has clever clipart with teeth-grinding skewering of Regressive ideas.

Day by Day couches its politics in character-driven drama, lush art style, and hot, frequently-déshabillé dames.

Liberal Logic is good for poster-style works in the popular photo-with-caption format.

Just off the top of my head, and sub list.

Animated GIFS and videos are also the editorial cartoons of the Internet age. (I've had some fun with those).

In an age of ghettoization and niched markets, we're still working out how to reach the masses with propaganda that teaches civics and civility. The flash of one memorable editorial image can be worth a thousand attempts at persuasive argument. Spread the good stuff far and wide, online, and printed out for the office bulletin board. Everyone is The Press now. Court said so.

...

Although I've cartooned for all my six decades, and have strong political opinions, I don't really have the political cartoon mind, as far as sharp, current-issue-oriented panels, and especially that multiple times a week ability. The closest I come is some pseudo-artsy general statement about Big Brother, like today's doodle.
http://mindfulwebworks.com/doodles/hes-everywhere

The next 3 doodles after that serialize a 12-panel I did just when Reagan came to office, comically quick-reviewing the Presidents of my lifetime up until then. I don't think I could easily emulate the style I used then, but it would be fun to continue through today's disastrous administration.
http://mindfulwebworks/doodles coming up

I see the next thread is up now. I assume everyone has mooved on, so I don't have to feel too guilty for the extensive blurt and self-absorbed blather at the thread dead end. I hope.

What? I was just getting my caffeinated outrage on. What will I do with the leftover? Too early to go out and blow things up...

"Mooch ... thinks Jane Fonda ... traitor ... is a role model."

Not really a big surprise ("All this fuss over a flag"), but it is stomach-turning, even if just to realize how unaware or uncaring FLOTUS is to say it! But then, I recall praise from Mao and Commie Christmas tree ornaments from these wealth redistributors. So it's not like they're hiding it!

Syria accused of "systematically" killing 11,000 detainees. How is this any different than just regularly killing them?

I would presume it means lining up prisoners for cold-blooded slaughter v killed in heat of battle.

I've no love for murderous thugs regardless of belief or motivation, and in the whole history of warfare, I'd figure that's been more often the case than not, taking warriors prisoners (other than as slaves) being a modern civilized idea, one which presents bigger problems with cult fanatics than, say, ordinary German POWs. Detention, like Guantanamo, presents big problems (although letting them go is the biggest), but I still like to pretend we prefer justice by law to summary slaughter.

[Huac]records regarding the HUAC were sealed and in 1976 another 50 years were added to the sealing.

Because by then the guilty will be regarded as heroes of Der Pippl's Яevolution!

I'm thinking a preemie or something. The baby weighed nine pounds! That's a hearty growth inside you to "not know about it." I mean, I can see your robes hiding it from the other Sisters, but you've got to know. I would say, and you've got to know where/when/who except if you're so self-unaware as to not know you're growing that big a bun, you really might not know how it got in the oven.

Whatcha all been talkin' 'bout for three hundred comments?

And did I miss any exciting discussions or new AoSHQ memes over the day while I was pretending to be busy?

And you folks up North? I'm shipping this air back, all righty? Not what I ordered.

We're Going To Be Hearing A Lot About Marijuana In The Next Few Weeks

Didn't click. Did sigh. Must we? Really?

Lord, I've been on the Repeal bandwagon since ... always. We (not counting MADD) don't have to "hear a lot about" booze. We drink. I just want Repeal so those who choose to toke can just do it.

I once hoped that for all the ill he brought, "forgot to exhale" Clinton might bring repeal. Or maybe party boy Bush would do the conservatively correct thing. Or at least the pandering Choomster... but, no, the tokin' Prezzies were all sell-outs on the issue, as a toner might say.

My Head Shop has cartoons & even songs (mostly more than a decade old), about pot (among other indulgences), just for amusement and edutainment. My Radical Incline section includes my screeds about the politics & morality of it. Getting close to 20 years' worth.

So, I've put in my share about it, including this, I guess... but...

But for _____'s sake, legalize, toke, SHUT UP about it.

Take it. & Congrats. If you can't get into a character's head who isn't just you in disguise, you won't be writing good.

I ain't no scribe, but for a thing I did, the voice was a young girl reciting induced memories from an older man, who occasionally had his consciousness hijacked by extraterrestrials. I don't know if anyone reading could follow the changes, but by the time the girl came back to herself, I felt like I'd been through it as her.. or them... whatever.

(By the way, I know you'll all want to go back and read all my fine bon mots dropped at the end of the morning thread which I posted as the room was emptying... :/ )

And then I pointed out that she has a $300 Mont Blanc Pen. Maybe she should write with a Bic and use the rest of the money to feed the poor.
Silence. And death rays from her eyes.

My first thought, unavoidably, was the similar exchange with Judas which led that fellow Jesus to make his famous remark that we'll always have the poor around.

Second thought was, Crazy Russian Hacker has a video how to fit those expensive refills into a cheapo pen body.

Both thoughs were beating each other up to be first past the turnstile. I think Hacker let Jesus win, tho. Probably Russian Orthodox.

Your Updated Aphorism du jour:

Give a Regressive a fish...

and you'll have two Regressives on your doorstep the next day demanding fish.

Teach a Regressive to fish...

...or try to... it won't take, but they might go away. Or, you might get sued, because rayciss or something and anyway teaching is a Union job....
