It's about 20 minutes long but well worth your time. Seriously cool.

I don't have to watch a 20 min vid to find out they think it was poured concrete, do I? Because, that's old news.

Went down to visit Mom today. While in The City, we dropped by the AMA-Unapproved Medicines store, hoping to grab a few things and get over to Mom's, but instead while I found a grassy spot for the dog, the Mrs got to talking to the doc. He's good at talking.

He's a wacky old Army Sgt turned Naturapath. He has this patented medicine that reputedly restores vigor and rebuilds deteriorated body parts, and he was talking about hoping to get it distributed to injured vets, through the VA, even if he has to buy it for them himself.*

And when I say wacky, he told the Mrs she needs to eat more butter and pork fat. Doesn't your doctor tell you that?

*Seriously, though.

So, this AoS reader app ... 1st attempt to post with it...
Any idea why no media show up for me?
Also, alas, does not seem compatible with the blootoof keyboard Santa got me.
But otherwise handy. Especially on the long list of high-quality HTML tags allowed here.

Wish I could take credit for the Stan Lee line, but I'm not nearly that clever. It's a Simpsons line.
Posted by: Mary Poppins' etc

Well, I always say, steal from the best.

Must've been the early Simpsons when they were funny, but I don't recall the line. I watched 'em all, I think, live or by re-run, until that day the army recruiters at the mall tried to get the town punks to join and when they wouldn't, one soldier made some disparaging remark about the stupidest kids in the stupidest town won't join. This, while we were at war, IIRC. Anyway, I turned it off and never ever bothered to care about it again.

Y'know, I thought about doing that, but then I thought, that would be one long annoying post.

Better you than me.

Anyone else seen it and can let me know if I'm way off base?
Posted by: @JohnTant

Have not & prob won't see it.

Reminds me how Disney had that long slump then came out with Alladin, Beauty & Beast, seems like there was one other, just as our kids were Disney movie age. It was a great time. Then we hit the lions, and the era was over. Maybe one day family entertainment like that will return.

...a twist so cliched even Stan Lee would blush....
Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing

That's funny. MPPPPPP. In my nearly half a century of appreciation of Lee & his work, it never once occurred to me that Stan was capable of blushing, at least not over his trademark cornballness.

for tradition...

Barack Obama is a stuttering clusterfluke of a misbegotten failure.

Because "SCOAMF" is more satisfying to pronounce than "SCOAMT."

And anyway, technically, can you be a traitor to a country that's not yours and to which you nevet swore allegiance? :/

Why didn't the MNG graphic format catch on?

What am I supposed to do with all these VRML worlds?

And anybody got a spare 5" floppy outboard Model I compatible drive and a spare copy of DoubleDOS?

I feel like a troglodyte. Let's play Pong.

ObamaCare-themed variety show - srsly u guyz

The Regressives, especially Obozo, think if their methods are failing, it's always about getting the message across, never about re-examining the methods, so it's all print ads, commercial jingles, now variety shows fer f's sake! Propaganda 24/7.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, we aren't seeing Reality TV from the Obamavilles.

Monday, Google announced that it is purchasing Nest Labs, which makes Internet-connected home devices like a thermostat and smoke alarm, for $3.2 billion in cash. -NY Times via Drudge

Because Google needs to know everything about everyone.

I envisioned all this smart home stuff when I was a kid, like many space agers; I saw the future at Disneyland and the World's Fair, talked on vidphones, rode monorails, and hacked computer terminals back in the long-ago 1960s! I imagined all the great things automation and fine-point controls and robotics can accomplish, and I was so enthusiatic for our future.

The realization of the 1984-ish potentials came later.

Mætenloch: Nice post, as always... except... when I tried to read about that woman in the Banana Dress, I could hear my brain cells' tiny little screams of agony. And "Gender Neutral Dating" seems to be one of those intensively technical articles with a special vocabulary totally over my head. But... nice post.

Work rhymes with lurk but not with fork. All is madness.

RE Sven 10077 at January 13, 2014 08:50 AM (TE35l)

Sven, you still there? (What am I saying?)

I appreciate your reply. Honestly, when at first it was just you, I wasn't concerned. When others seemed to confirm and amplify what I considered misrepresentation, that's when I became concerned, hence my "group mentality" comment. Memes can spread like wildfire.

I'm well aware of the acidity of the topic. An ex-bro-in-law used to joke, in his thick Ecuadorian accent, "the problem with stereotypes is, some blacks DO have rhythm, some Irish ARE drunks..." and he would roll on with one after another until I think he hit everybody. Most white boys CAN'T dance or jump. (It's okay if I say it.) Anyway, alas, some rich white Republicans were bigots, and some Democrats were on the side of right. And that's well documented, too. Not saying it was the whole picture on the national scale. The original question was, what was a "Conservative Democrat," and since I knew some, back when the species still existed, I talked about 'em. Doesn't mean I'm unaware of the general patterns of misrepresentation of history re Dems v Repubs regarding race in the South. I never said anything about quitting AoS (even if some might wish it, I suppose). I just meant I won't venture trying to relate my experience on that topic again. Even though, um, it looks like I just did. But you know I was serious about reputation being all one has.

There was a "conservative" dust bowl era Democrat base which characterized Oklahoma until the days of Goldwater, Gov Bellmon, and in no small part my own dad's political work. Oklahoma has become the Republicanist of the true-blue states because the Oklahoma Republicans quit being RINOs (as we'd say today) interested more in the profits of politicking, and became more conservative and interested in winning elections on principle. This transformation of the state, mostly in my lifetime, is one thing that gives me hope for the nation.

Thanks again, Sven. Now go outside and play. I'm going to.

When it comes right down to it, all a man has is his good reputation. Lost, it can rarely be regained. Some individuals may be understanding, but Community rarely forgives or forgets.

My face on Ace was threatened yesterday, I thought, by misrepresentation and mischaracterization which I had no time nor wit to counter.

I'm not writing to defend myself nor would I re-open the topic ever again on here. I just wanted to say:

We have seen how swiftly and viciously the Regressives turn on and eat their own should one be merely perceived as deviating from the Narrative in any way.

They have no monopoly on that playground gang mentality.

Might want to watch out for that.
