For those of you who missed it, the Jonah Goldberg link to Isaac Asimov's 1964 predictions for 2014
Asimov got things about half right, so far as 2014. Nice read: http://tinyurl.com/o3s9acu

Thanks, Hammer!
I started reading that & realized it was familiar.... Must've read it 'round when our fam was there.

This morning, Mrs Webworker read me this, from Good Graces, collected by Julie Jensen McDonald. This ancient prayer which turns up everywhere including the wall of England's Chester Cathedral has been attributed to Thomas H. B. Webb:
Give me a good digestion, Lord,
and also something to digest;
Give me a healthy body, Lord,
and sense to keep it at its best;
Give me a healthy mind, good Lord,
to keep the good and pure in sight,
Which, seeing sin, is not appalled
But finds a way to set it right.
Give me a mind that is not bound,
that does not whimper, whine, or sigh.
Don't let me worry overmuch
about the fussy thing called I.
Give me a sense of humor, Lord;
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some happiness from life
and pass it on to other folk.

The above quote from the Coulter column explains exactly why Hollywood Biblical epics suck.

Anyone else read this post and think it's related to twerking rather than smoking?

After dismissing the thought that 'flicking' was euphamism (for ... what happens in comic book lettering when capital L And capital I Look like a U), my next supposition had to do with the juvenile locker-room practice of snapping wet coiled-up ends of towels....

Strange. That was my thought, too, when I read Baldy's comment.

Because it was there.
And yet, many articles were less interesting than I'd expected. So much same old same old.
The Craigslist bit was entertaining. Romance for Kaboomers.
I think I just opened more tabs off the headlines than I've ever had on the cell. Now to reading... God willing & the browser don't crash.
Thanks, BenK!

Good morning. Back to the arctic here in NE Okla. Covered in light snow. Pretty, but cold. Hope everyone is as well as can be expected.
Jan 2? HOLIDAYS ARE OVER! BACK ON YOUR KNEES!
When I watched it's a wonderful life this year for my mumbly mumbly time through I saw the skull on potter's desk when George is talking to him for the first time ever. I was like "WTF has that skull been there all these years and what the heck is it supposed to be?"

That was one of the things we saw for the first time,too!!! Holy mackerel!

"...now that it's where it is now, there is considerably more mountainous mass overhead, so hopefully major eruptions will happen less frequently." -torquewrench
Less frequently... yessss... then, when it blows, it will be all that much more powerful for having been capped, with lots more stuff to blast into the upper atmosphere when it does.
(And won't those solar panels work great covered with ash in a long volcanic winter!)
Srsly u guyz: torque, I hadn't heard of Yellowstone's possible migration. (Thanks.) I had heard that "they" think Madrid's source (whatever) had drifted a bit, West IIRC. A little closer to me, oh joy!

Beevis worthy. (Or would it be Butthead? Never watched.) siiigh Where did I think I was?
If I left a comment would it be all right?
If I write a comment then it would be left?
This is what haunts me in the new year.
Speaking of haunting (ba-dmm), Mrs & I just finished watching It's a Wonderful Life. Started watching last night, and we hadn't even got to where
*SPOILER ALERT AS IF*
to where Uncle Billy loses the dough, when we heard the fireworks and realized it was 2014. So, we stopped there, kissed, and went to bed. (Okay, lots of people did that, but we went to sleep. Do we know how to party, or what?) Um...
Oh, yeah. So, we finished watching it tonight. We were watching to see if we could spot things we'd never noticed before. There were a few. But in amongst that, somehow, there were times ("Every man on that transport died...") we still got all allergenic as if we hadn't seen it forward, backward, and randomly (flipping channels during the Christmases it ran on 10 cable channels at once).
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
Hope you all have a good 2014, folks. Keep faith.
