I come back and see I wrote,
"Time to feed the peaks."
What, now I'm a mountain man? What I get for trying to be clever. I was going for "pesks."
Pets + pesky - autoincorrect = peaks. Sure.

Sun is finally crawling over the hill to the South-East. Time to feed the peaks. Rituals matter.
Oh, and that luck thing, has not worked in the last few years.

You never know. Things might've been worse without it!
Lots of Okies and other Southerners in Chicago. I grew up just over the Indiana line outside of Chicago.

I was a transplant there for fourteen winters, but the wife's fam is Irish Catholic. Not sure where she picked up on the tradition.
When we have some available, we add a dollop of her NM style hot green chili, a habit picked up in our Santa Fe years. Spices up the luck.
Sherry, repost from ONT: My wonderful wife's black eye pea stew on New Year's, a Suthren tradition introduced to this Oklahoma boy almost forty years ago by his Chicago-raised wife.
S'posed to bring good luck. Almost forty years and she hasn't killed me yet, so, it works.
To Vic and all the other VN Vets, "Thank you for your service and welcome home!"

Echoed!
Hard to convey to my kids what it was like, seeing returning heroes disrespected back then.
Someone recently mentioned an exchange between a young vet & an elder, the gist being, we show you support now because we didn't have it then. Whenever I see the likes of the Patiot Riders or such, I am joyous, but always there's the back of my mind recollection of the evils to which such honors stand in contrast. Like Westboro-ians marginalized but still standing off to the side of a soldier's funeral. Important to remember, though, so it can never happen again.
"Third icebreaker abandons rescue of climate scientists boat in Antarctica,"
Needs link to that Greenie ship / PJ Boy poster parody done by... B Cochran (?)... any?one?
"Republican message on Obamacide is muddled."
Usually, I hear 'muddled' in the voice of Ghost of Christmas Present in Scrooged. "Tee hee! I'm a little muddled!"I think it's shortly before she smacks Bill Murray in the face with a toaster.
Which some Republicans could use.
The muddled party.
"On this day in 1972 Nixon halted the bombing of North Vietnam. I was there."
Yes, I was not there, being a iggerent 2S student, but I well remember, after the bombing ended, the treaty signing, the occupying armies, then the victory parades across the country, welcoming home our military, and how since then SVN joined S Korea as a powerful showcase for liberty and free enterprise.
Made a young man so proud to be an American.
Especially when they hung Jane Fonda. That was impressive. I was disappointed by Agnew's 2nd term administration, though.
I'd hate to live in some alternative universe where things went differently.

This is what I encounter when I dare peek back in to see how the ONT is going. Going as normal, apparently!

Aaand, I'm not a top-tenner again. Variable IP is my friend. I'll note it five hundred more times this week. I'm not a top tenner.
I read back over some last comments, and I'm so thoroughly confused, I know it's the ONT.
I suppose, when reading backward through the comments, it might help if I didn't actually read each comments itself backward. Let me try that. BRB.
Trying to dis someone for being Christian and having a Christmas tree. "How to win friends and influence people" graduate.

Don't know those, but... nice!
Does Matthew count as a book?
Been a while since I just sat down and read the Gospels. What is the 'four' term like a trilogy, or perhaps more appropriately a triptych?
I think the begats of Matt 1:1-17 were put up front to ward off those of low interest or short attention span. Certainly worked for me for many years...
"...it's also made from the fur of cats that wandered the Nile Valley in ancient Egypt, some of which could be four feet in length!" - PMRich
Shoot! We've got Bobcats here in Okla. at least four feet long. Or are they saying that was when the Nile was four feet long?
Reading comprehension; how does it work?
(Seriously, interesting. Never know what chat here will lead to. And by chat, in this case, I mean chat (that's French).). ))))]})
whoa... thought I was kidding about kittyfur knitting!
Our house adds Dog as well. Not as much as our dear old Shepherd, though. Man, he was like a sheep. We could've made a sweater every Spring.
Hm.
Think it's time to do some vacuuming...
