"...has ordered a Christian baker to make cakes for same sex marriages..."

And Wicca marriages, and group marriages, and human-inanimate or -imaginary object marriages, or shacking-up parties or lost-my-virginity cupcakes...

...because God knows one's freedom of religion does not extend to how one lives life.

I know the point here was not cake but religious lawfare, but, yeah, seriously, eating something made by folks you opposed ain't real wise... even if you count on them being... Christian about it.

They said it would be 1° at this hour.

It's not, tho. Its 9°!

Think I'll go out and do some sunbathing.

chique d'afrique,

As with the displacement of the AmerInds (of which I am always acutely aware, living in Oklahoma), there's a lot of no-win in cultural conflicts.

Only in relatively modern times, and, I deem, much due to the universalizing spirit of Jesus' teaching, have we learned to give a crap about the guy in the other tribe. Enemies, historically, have been to eliminate or enslave ("and hear the lamentations of their women") rather than to be loved and done good to.

My sympathies are always with the enslaved and oppressed, but humans have a wicked streak, and more often than not, the liberated delight in becoming the new oppressors, more "now it's our turn" than "never again." Humans and other chimps be face biters.

Reminds me of Nora Dunn's standup skit about the little girl watching a Nature show. First, you're rooting for the little gazelle. Then, oh noes, the mean ol' tiger got him. But then, the tiger is feeding her cubs, d'aww... Our sympathies get whipped around.

I mean, who are you really rooting for? Not some mass identified by skin or belief or other arbitrary measure, but individuals by their character, as some ol' dead (American) black guy dreamed.

Glad you chimed in.

Why dont you get one of those kittycams? You can plug it into your computer and see what you kitty is up to when you're not around.

Heh. Bad enough I know what they do when I am around! Don't mind the rodentia - that's their job - but when the porch is littered with cardinal feathers....

All this talk of a new convenyion is crazy. You know what you'd end up with? A Constitution that guarantees health care, a living wage, daycare, etc.
Careful what you wish for

While I have had some concerns along such lines, I have not yet read Levin's book nor studied this to see how such concerns are addressed. Heck, I haven't even made the effort to see if Okla is getting involved.

But, if certain parties suggest it's a bad idea... I'm actually encouraged.

Four of the five cats insisted on going out as usual this morning.

Three did their thing and ran back in.

Young Charlie dashed about in the powder and chased up snowy leaves. Wish I'd had a vidcam handy.

BTW

I'd pay extra for a cell with a physical lens cover and mic off switch. Whole damn unit, hardware & soft, is pure spyware. I don't even trust it that my geo-location is actually turned off (yes, I know they can still generally track me by the towers). I'd like to exist on a need-to-know basis.

Agnes Moorehead pre-Bewitched.

Somewhere in the catacombs I have a reel-to-reel copy of a radio performance of Don Juan in Hell with Charles Laughton and Moorehead. Old media - wot a hassle. (Prob somewhere online now; yay infrawebz.)

LaughingStock Media are already becoming recognized as the insanest of the pack. By some.

Now that there's some daylight I can see we got at least an inch of climate chaos overnight. Pretty.

Okay, I'm ready for Spring now.

No story today... Instead, here's a picture of actress Anna May Wong.... - Mary Poppins

That picture was only worth 900 words. You owe us 100.

Blanket over my shoulders, another over my legs, coffee at hand... okay, I'm ready. Bring on the day.

Hi, folks.

Test every bottle by geiger counter! That's what Jorge and Raul had in mind when they hijacked the truck down in Mexico. Then things went horribly wrong....

It's 21.5°F but since it "feels Like 22°F" I think I'll go for a little drive on the fresh-fallen snow-ice-stuff oboy.

Shouldn't be any worse than the 15mph (on the highway, flashers on) pea-soup fog I had to drive in the other night.

See yez in the mawnin.

Prisoners should ... go their cell and stay there. A TV that is out of reach is always on. It plays things designed to remind the prisoner he's being punished. -eman

However, about Lt. Col Robert Bateman - my crapacitors hit full crapacity partway through point 3. Couldn't finish.

I find that happening a lot lately.

HOWDY, Y'ALL! he whispered.

"It is possible, for example, that there are many extinct human populations that scientists have yet to discover."

A big OMFG reeeally? Also, there may be things in the ocean we don't know about. And in space. And in the jungles....

That's almost as big a "Well, Duh!" as 'Obama's "Become The Very Danger The Constitution Was Designed To Avoid'

Cute. Interestingly, it mis-names the book though. I wonder if that is on purpose? : Mike Hammer

A. Poorly (non) researched / uncaring writing.

B. 'Maintenance' would crowd the word balloon.

My inner cartoonist goes with B but knowing cartoonists, I might favor A.
