"Lots of porta potties for the illegals, none for this rally."

So what's the problem? There's cop cars!

Sigh! Begone, sweaty Pigskin sock.

I hearby swear off socks. Other socks, I mean. At least for the day.

seamrog, thanks for the tip to WslZip.

Really, the Guardians of the State are necessary, the zip ties and tear gas and armored vehicles and weaponry, when you consider the terrible terrorist threats they're facing today:

Big posters of BO and Hill's victims at Benghazi, hung on the barricades! Nothing else except their pictures. Man! That should be repeated everywhere.

Citizens, just looking like tourists, taking snaps of the mounted police. Seems so normal.... is so surreal.

The UStream link is dead. Others I've followed aren't working. New Media has failed! Where's my NBC? (Big haha.)

O/T FenelonSpoke: still here?

Been meaning to mention to you that I put Mark Merrill's Be Still My Soul on a YouTube playlist, which Mrs and daughter and I watched a few nights ago. Very moving. Helpful. Thank you.

The playlist on my site FYI:

Oh, also, I played the slowed-down crickets for the Mrs after lights out night before last. Fascinating.

"you forgot to mention the tanks and drones." -seamrog

Drones? Yes, I had missed that one.

"mailpersons will be happy enough to comply." -Grimmy

Except that it's Sunday. They'd want double-time.

"1 vet arrested and thrown into a SWAT vehicle."

Ruh-roh. Two possibilities occur to me:

1. This is the spark that hits the powder keg.

2. Just one drunk moron who will 'fess up here later and all the other vets applaud a justifiable arrest.

Angels be with 'em. In force.

Foot and Bookball threads above, Gun thread below. We're surrounded.

Let me see if I've got this all right. No violence yet, but serious forces assembled and confronting one another.

Vets, Patriot Riders, truckers, Boy Scouts, general patriots, Sarah up in the cops' faces, Secret Service, Park Service, DC police, mailmen, mounted, armored cars, SWAT teams, riot gear, snipers on the White House, helicopters with men hanging out. Rumor 1st fam evac'd on Heli1. In a context of a nation that's divided between those who are all-in for tyranny or totally fed up with the crap.

"What could go wrong?"

I just threw mailmen in there to see if you were paying attention.

"Meh. They show up because they are sent." -fluffy

"it looks like the police have put the barrycades back up." -Lauren

This is the point where one might say, the police acted stupidly.

I don't suppose we'll get to see the day end with a bunch of misguided uniforms, overwhelmed by sheer numbers, non-violently disarmed and zip-tied to their own barrycades while citizens proceed exercising their God-given right to peacefully assemble; but it would be pleasant.

In a sheer-force between one of those armored cars and some semis... not that I'd want anything to happen, especially to the truckers, but just theoretically, what might happen?

Personally, if I was one of those arrogant little men in uniform faced with all of this, I might be a tad concerned about whether I should be there.

It's not that I don't like him. He's so cute and cuddly. I just want to hug him and squeeze him and take him home with me, where I would feed him, and groom him, and pet him, and fluff his little pillow and stroke those cute little ears. If it weren't for that beard of his...

Wait. Did I say all that out loud? I've been hanging with Johnny too much."

"If only our society had an independent group dedicated to observing and disseminating information about important events." -Burn the Witch

"No such group exists." -NWConservative

What century are you folks living in? You know, I don't have an actual teevee set. I don't have a teevee antenna. I don't have cable teevee. I don't have satellite teevee. Haven't for years now. Yet, apparently, I'm better informed than 99% of the folks I know who watch those sources.

See, I peruse "independent groups dedicated to observing and disseminating information about important events" every day. Like right here this morning, for example. I also when I can observe and disseminate.

In fact, I only find out what's happening with the old Laughingstock Media when I see it reported by the real media. "Piers Morgan said this, ha ha ha," whoever he is. "Rachel Maddow said that, ha ha ha," whoever she is. They are nobody to me.

What we have (until they come for us) is what "freedom of the press" really means. Everybody owns the "presses" now. This is The Press. Realize it. Promote it. Enjoy it. This is the Media Now. You're not just soaking in it. It B We.

That cop holding the zip ties looks old enough to know better.

Funny, isn't it? Not one of those damn cops, on foot, on horseback, in their battle cruisers, not one is needed there. Not for peacekeeping, not for show, not for anything.

I mean, it's not like these are chained-to-the-gates arrest-me protesters, they're just visiting our memorials. These are not filthy, dangerous Occupoop Walleye protesters (who do not get arrested for pooping on cop cars, apparently).

True o not, the thought of the First Family being evacuated in a panic when "threatened" by a crowd of patriotic elders visiting memorials does warm my soul.

The elder dog kind of shriveled up and was soon gone. In retrospect, I think the elder dog was so used to being the queen of the castle, having a new dog come in may have broken her heart. Still feel guilty 20+ years later. -RM

That's sad. We can never give any of them the attention they deserve.

Our guy has been lonely, I think, since the other dog died. Keeps looking anxiously at other dogs. Love's to play. I think the right companion could be a good thing in his case.

Look at the Palin hate in the comments. - Anna Puma

I was going to post this a few days ago regarding Cruz-hating, but it's just the same:

"The day he was inaugurated, a friend said to the father of Robert Maynard Hutchins: 'I was shocked this morning to read that newspaper editorial denouncing your son.'

"'Yes,' the elder Hitchens replied, 'it was severe, but remember that no one ever kicks a dead dog.'"

From the chapter "Remember That No One Ever Kicks a Dead Dog," in How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie.

I think the older dog did more to train the pup than the human residents did. - Retread

That's my thinking. Thanks for the feedback.

Thing is, our place is such a dumped-pets magnet, we've never gone out and got a pet. Wondering whether we should expect God and cruel owners to provide, or go to the shelter?

Problem with going to the shelter is, its like trying to eat one Frito.
