There were half a dozen deer out by the gravyard. Then the dog saw them. Now they're all gone.

Dog was not full grown when he wandered up on us and would not be chased off. Gradually, we were able to civilize him, and he trained us. After years of always being tied out, running off, disobeying, he's now always tether-free at home. Earned trust which I don't give readily. Knows his territory and ferociously defends it. Great, loyal friend and really a family member.

Whenever I have to leave the Mrs at home, I couldn't feel more secure than knowing faithful Gimli is with her.

Recently I began to realize, what we have is a working pet culture. Someday, Gimli will be gone, alas. If we get a new pup, Gimli can maybe help transmit want what he has learned. I'd never thought about that before.

He's in no great discomfort but is definitely in the "find a place to die" mode.

After all those years nothing left but tears.

Been there too often, Ed. Every time heart-wrenching. When all we can do is comfort them 'til the end, it's just hard.

This morning I am moved to ask for prayers, for the health of my dear little family in particular, and the health of Family in general. Family is the foundation of Creation. Pray for the reinforcement of familial peace and purpose.

In general, and specific, family faces an opposing army of selfish, quarrelsome, fearful, and angry attitudes. The very meaning of family, a reality transcending generations, has not been well revered. Father, strengthen familialness in all your children.

Jesus was a family man. Never had kids of his own, but he was dad to his sibs after Joe died, right? Probably safe to assume he was tried and tested in all points even as other parents. That's some comfort.

Vic - $500? Wow, they don't give you anything here for shooting them.

Oh. You said fine. I just assumed you meant bounty.

Different universes.

BenK brings the discussion-agitating content.

Will there still be headlines, or have you met your morning post quota?

(And what happened to the first time I wrote that?)

You doing okay this a.m., Vic? Your reportage, though brief, seemed extra grumpy. (but with style)

Thanks, as always.

Over thirty years and I still have to play Daddy to the little hooligans. I'd say when does it stop, but my 93yo mother says it doesn't. Ever seen Mr Hobbs takes a vacation? Stewart had it easy.

You know how you never want to drink when you're on duty or on call?

Bruce Banner voice: I'll tell you my secret - I'm always on call.

And you wouldn't like me when I'm Daddy. or.. something.

Somebody hoist one for me tonight. Tell me the horde is happy.

[Reagan] was both inspiring, and comforting, and growing up as a child in the 80s, I felt very safe knowing he was our President. - Secret Squirrel

Between being in my 20s and more finding fault in all politicians, and the lefty superficial media reportage pre-Internet, and no contact with counter-narrative sources, I was not enamored of him at the time of his election. I did foresee he'd be in for eight, easily.

By the time the Wall fell, I was a bit more appreciative.

Footnote. When the Wall went up, I was 9. When the Wall came down, our daughter was 9. An age at which one can be mightily impressed by such events.

Just read the Reagan quote above to the Mrs, saving who it was for the punch line.

No punch; she says, 'It's amazing how, even without knowing who that is, I hear it in his voice.'

'You knew who that was before the end?" I asked.

'Yes. Of course it may have helped that I listened to him (Reagan) for half an hour last night on Levin.' (But not this, I asked. No.)

That quote ... approaching 40 years ago.

Bill & Hill hitman... What a shock. I thought they had a whole squad.

When I first looked, it was easy to find the Clinton hit lists. Last time, I was surprised to find much less on 'Arkansides,' RonBrowning, and related Clinton gangsterism. I should look again.

Remember the kids who shotgunned themselves, then laid down on the railroad tracks? Neither does anyone else but their mommas.

Their cover-ups worked so well, I was almost ready to believe those stories were exaggerated propaganda... a vast right-wing conspiracy, y'might say... just like all these mea things they say about the punk with his feet on the Resolute desk.

Always have to wonder, what else am I missing? (checks fly)

I'm not stupid. I just have antiquated input processes.
