Well, the line of storms is crossing the county next to ours. Gotta go before that hits.

I realize there wasn't supposed to be any theology on this thread, but... God bless America, my home sweet home.

1. Jesus said, take, eat, drink, remember. He wasn't big on ceremony. Anybody can do it anytime, consecrated with remembrance. Shh. Don't tell the Exclusive Club.

2. Went to Catholic church with a girl in high school. Sure, go up and take communion. The priest looked at me like I had murdered someone. He could tell right away I was a filthy Episcopal heathen. (I married a Chicagoan raised Catholic, though, so there's that.)

3. Consecrated or not, I would think "it's not nice to fool with The Host." Fear of the Lord is not the position of the ignorant and ill-informed. (But if they can feed 5000 with one serving, I'll take it all back.)

Well, before I refresh the page again... HI!

Would have been here sooner, but kept getting distracted by post content, them thar ever-fascinatin' comments, and wandering off on links, while on my way down to the comment box.

Now that I'm here... uh... well...

mpfs - Sympathy, and thanks for sharing your memories of your FiL.

Passing in one's sleep - hard to beat. God willing, you just wake up in the morning and you say, hm, now, this looks different.

At first I was thinking BCochran was reporting the storm winds, and I couldn't figure out why he was impressed.

Oohhhh. Bese-a-ball. Verry good.

Today I got my first Shutdown Bulletin when I checked the earthquake.usgs.gov map. They had a popup saying:

Government Furlough - Due to a lapse in Federal funding, the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program has suspended most of its operations. While the USGS will continue to monitor and report on earthquake activity, the accuracy or timeliness of some earthquake information products, as well as the availability or functionality of some web pages, could be affected by our reduced level of operation.

Closed the popup, then it looked like the website was normal.

Whew!

Tropical storm? Never mind that. There's a line of angry-looking red stuff on the radar map about halfway across Oklahoma and heading my way.

Oh, right. In Land of the Red Man, red line crosses you.

450+ comments? Holy moley. Chad is such an inspiration to conversation! (Just got caught up on Ace's day at play.)

There are two Americas. Those who believe in Chad. And those who know Chad is a synecdoche for all that is wrong with Unaffordable Care and the Muslim Marxist's ilk. A synecdoche, I say!

Will our Sylvester-cat in the office do? How many minutes would you like? He can do that all day.

I need to post pix of the cardboard filebox we let him have as a scratching post!

Boehner? No. Cruz, yeah.

I think circumstances dictate things. Pulled over on the shoulder is dangerous; let the nice person in uniform come to you. Years ago, I pulled over in a parking lot for what I presumed was a tail light out or something (expired tag) and I just jumped right out.

Maybe that's the real reason why I got the full-car drug search!

"Anyone who has ever been pulled over by the cops for
a traffic stop knows the last thing you ever do is get out of the car."

$#!+

Those of us who don't watch World's Deadliest Cop Chases, don't get stopped, etc don't know how to act by unwritten rules. How to spread-eagle properly, as I found one day. When I learned (Flintstones era), getting out was what you did.

When I was teaching my twin boys to drive, one say, son's unsteadiness got us pulled over. It was all friendly when they realized it was student, not impaired, driving.

But I explained to them about this very change from 'my day,' and asked them to tell my boys how to respond. That was a good lesson.

Older cop to younger cop when told when I had learned to drive: "That's before you were born, isn't it?" Heh.

Yeah, and, how/when did that happen, exactly? Not exactly the idea of our properties' guardians that I got in my mid-last-century youth.

Brought along this from the end of the previous thread because I laughed at the perspective on the perverse:

389 Cmon...if your going to shut down the WW2 memorial, at least put some razor wire along the top.

"Initially they were saying that she had exited her car when she was shot."

Increasingly, this sounds to me like a case of angry cops syndrome. After she got away from them, they got mad. Members of some cop tribes go steroid-psycho if their fellows are threatened or hurt, or their authority resisted. *cough* Waco *cough*

Written with full respect for the job, the dangers of it nowadays especially, and the people who serve and protect.

You know what? No, let me tell you.

RINO - Perhaps we're past the point where being a RINO should be considered a liberal in conservative's wool. With the old leadership, RINO means not acting like Boener and the Associate Progressives. For example: Cruz is a RINO, a conservative yet Republican.

Sad to see the Republican name so soured. As the search for third-party names always demonstrates, it's hard to beat. For truth in advertising, the great civil struggle is Constitutional Republicanism ("if you can keep it" -BenF) vs Democratic totalitarianism.

Well, that took time to tap-type. Dump up yet?
