"Time to get the blogs to start feeding stories to press about...." -someone; I'm just jumping off from that often-expressed kind of thought, going somewhat o/t I guess. And long, as it turned out. Go ahead. Skp ths.

Drop the "media," the "press," and the "journalists," at least in relation to those outlets which once might have deserved such names but which now are all Ministry of Propaganda branches.

I want to mention this again: I had access to Cable yestermorn, and noticed that CableOne had a slide saying they had dropped CNN & other Turner channels over doubled fees and dropping ratings. Big sad, not.

If you wonder, how do we inform, reform, or take over (etc) the media, maybe you're not asking the right question. Or not asking it of the right media.

Newspapers: dying. Broadcast revenues (excepting conservative talk radio)? I don't know, and am too armchair right now to ixquick it, but I presume the big networks are having problems, if not local stations. And this isn't the first fees up/ratings down cable dispute, right?

How will the Dinosaur Media of the Ministry of Propaganda die? Starved to death. Cable (TV) itself is going to go away, I guess. I'll even add the phone service as we know it. Gone the way of telegrams. It's acceleratingly becoming all Internet.

I know broadcast and print still rule a lot of minds. The Sea Change (choke.. did I just use that? what does that mean?) hasn't quite happened yet. CableOne will probably negotiate something with CNN.

Still, hopeful signs. The Media, already, AFAIC, is AoSHQ & kin. With or without government permission.

NPS sent law enforcement agents to the park on Tuesday evening to remove staff and volunteers from the property.

Start with names and badge numbers of these enforcers. Oh, I see AtC has beat me to that one. "Name them. Seriously, name them. Name each person who made this decision. Name each agent who showed up to shut them down. Each and every single one. Why? Because game on, bitches....

But Vic (of course) drives right to what ought to happen in a better world: "...if the park operators filed a complaint with the local Sheriff's department and they came and evicted the NPS assholes and removed the barricades..." Why do I feel this is not going to happen, even though it most rightly should?

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace-- but there is no peace. The war is actually begun!

Regarding those ordered to put up barrycades,

I used the phrase "reprehensible morally." Too strong. Allen G put it better, "kind of sad and pathetic."

Honestly, it felt less about the current shutdown battle and more about the reverence for the fighting men who gave their lives and their service for the country in World War II. -Jeff B.

As it should be, as it should be. Good to read. Thanks for being there, Jeff.

The blame lies with those who gave the order, not those who are simply doing their jobs. -Hollowpoint

I see this got kicked around a lot. But I sort-of agree, at least with how I take it:

I've been thinking, the drones putting out the gates are nothing to gripe about, really. Sure, it'd be nice if some of them said, "You know what? No!" Honorable people willing to give up their jobs for principle here. But these workers, even the lower-level bureaucrats who give the orders to put up gates, they may be reprehensible morally, but they are indeed just pawns in a game, and as such should melt into insignificance at the vets' mere approach.

Theatrically, the barry-cades work against the tyrants. So, thank those guys who were "just following orders" for helping set the stage for new heroics.

Save the majority of the wrath for the ones who would actually stand there and enforce the barriers, try to stop the vets from snipping the zips and moving the barricades. It is the enforcers who should be thoroughly castigated... did I spell that right?

I just got back from the dentist and I can't feel my upper lip at all.

I wish I could find a way to make that metaphorical about the WW2 Memorial battle shaping up. But my clever centers are numb, too, I guess.

Last I saw before the novocaine was we had a guy at the Memorial and a flight of heroes was coming in. I'll check above for updates.

Considering what a horrorible monstrosity this action is, working so hard to stop vets visiting their memorial, I'm finding this all rather entertaining.

Right up until the cuffs and blood.

"I still think this was poor strategy (and poor logic, too), that the debt ceiling fight was the way to go, and all the insults in the world haven't changed my mind."

Um.. there are other methods of persuasion one might consider. No insult intended.

Good Morning, virtual hoboes.

As the Daystar slips toward fewer hours of day, I gradually move rising time/pet feeding time to later and later. Consequently, AoSHQ seems to be happening for me earlier and earlier. Then, after Halloween. all of you will seig-heil the Gummint clocknazis and return to God's time, and then I'll be up relatively earlier again.

What? Coffee!

"Gimme that ObamaCare..." Video of ObamaPhone lady, new lyrics. All too real.

Couldn't leave for the night* without an overt blurt about a simple graphic I did today. Some here might enjoy it a bit. Nothing great. Felt good to do. Funny thing, when I was done, I just couldn't find a place to put my logo. Proliferate at pleasure.

A confrontation between

a pack of Seriously Serious You Guys cyclists protecting vets at the vet memorial

and

a clot of Take Themselves Too Serious militarized cops from the park service slash homeland army

kind of amazing just to imagine
clashing modern memes
not that I think it will happen
I pray it could not possibly happen
I pray the probability is as low as we'd hope
but see the all-too-likely possibility,

just

that post back up there about,
"Grampa, how did the 2nd Civil War start?"
If not this now,
something possibly all too soon.
such things really can start too easily.

Today I was reminded of the below... for *ahem* some reason.... The last paragraph of the article about the woman who got the letter from her father 69 years after he died in WW2, my added emphasis, close-tags don't fail me now:

Eddington-Smith's father is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. He was among the more than 400,000 Americans who died in World War II. Of the some 16 million U.S. service members in the war, less than 2 million are alive today. The Veterans Administration estimates that by 2036, there will be no surviving World War II vets.

I don't often watch Congress at work. With the exception of a few moments, like we've seen lately from Sen. Cruz, it's too much like watching sausage being made, which the pathetic performance in the video above so expressively demonstrates.

The sweeping generalities! The emotional manipulativeness! The attempted patriotism! The very absurdity of the appeal! The utter absence of anything resembling reason!

My Spock brain calls it interesting, even psychologically fascinating.

My Uncle Sam brain is not so emotionally uninvolved.

Oh crap. Google's logo is all patches of federal parks. Gee, I wonder why.

Ixquick. Ixquick. It's my default search engine. How did I get on Google? I feel dirty.

Been thinking I'd like to be rid of the Googlephone, and yesterday saw an ad for a Nokia Windows phone. I know Gatesware is only marginally better, but, Google ß evil!

AllenG: Okay, let's take this apart:

That immediately had me rubbing my hands in glee. Oh good! Someone's tackling it!

AllenG: "It's fast, built in static HTML"
Dude, no one has used static HTML for years FOR A REASON.

^ This is why I'm chiming in.

It might be as long as five years ago now that my son came to me about using a website management system.

It took us much time to learn the ropes, much time more to covert the majority of my sad old static vanity website's content (slogan: "the Web's best-kept secret since 1996"). (BTW, having started some sites from scratch, I can testify it's lots harder to convert from static, hoo boy!)

I just am glad I was able to convert in time to be laughing with Allen about this.

On the other hand, I'm thinking, these sites are probably all about as vulnerable as sites can be. Not that I'm suggesting anything; just saying.

On the radio, first thing this morning, I heard our better Senator, Jim Inhofe, saying something to the effect that folks 'round these parts don't have much problem with the Federal shutdown, and in fact kind-of like it. If I find the exact quote, I'll try to post it.

Started my day off right. Then I peeked into AoSHQ and saw the WW2 Memorial battle reports. And all the terrible comments reporting the tragic misery like PandaCam being off.

I don't trust feeling this good. Makes me start having hope, and you know how that can lead to disappointment.
