I want to recommend to any who haven't seen it, 9/11 The Plane That Fought Back. This appears to be it, divided up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF63C34FB270C2A44 - if anyone knows where else online the whole thing might be caught, post a link.

This is not the theatrical "Flight 93" (which I haven't seen). It's a docudrama mixing live interviews with re-enactments, including different takes on what might have happened right at the end. Been a couple years since I watched it, might try to dig out my copy tonight. So hard to watch, of course, but important.

Sometimes the flight that didn't get to its destination gets back-burnered, while it a real sense it was the great victory of the day, and one of the earliest miracles of modern warfare communications at the same time. Extraordinary everyday people knew what was going on, and, like it says, fought back. And we really have no reason to say otherwise than that they won.

Um, no, that's the pretext.
___
This stood out as a profoundly simple, complete, and devastating indictment; all the more astonishing that it's essentially beyond the grasp of many.

I started life out with a 4 digit phone number.
____
We used to have voice-activated dialing. I'd pick up the receiver. The Operator would say, "Number, plee-yayse." I'd recite my buddy Tom's number, "2, 4, 6." Perfect number for a small child's memory!

After Operators knew your name, but before dialing.

The wife and I were driving in to town. Turned on the radio. Man said something about Rush being stuck in a Florida airport, wondered what that was about. Then a report of Mexican refineries being shut - and the skin started prickling. Then the announcer recaps thusly: "The World Trade Centers are gone."

That's how we heard the news. Didn't yet know how, but I knew immediately who. "The f-ers really did it!" We turned around back home, where I told our kids, your world just changed forever. Your Pearl Harbor, of sorts. Here come the terrorist wars we had anticipated.

Then we spent the day watching the planes hit, the people fall, the towers collapse, over and over.

By then it was all done, so to speak. I actually thought, horrible as it was, that's it, the punks shot their wad? It's not the Beginning of anything larger coming? No next wave of assault? Spectacular, but nothing but a sucker punch by a$$holes - hard to explain. Like finding out the Boston bombers were two punk brothers, not a military unit.

The world did change - still waiting for the full blooming of the "ultimately for the better" part.

Hi. I missed the Big Speach. Any TFG moments of note?

Did he say, "We've reached a compromise; we will bomb Cleveland and Assad won't attack us"?

I just realized.. it's not just monkeys. It's hyperactive juvenile monkeys raised on Kaboom and Simpsons, infinitely pounding at keyboards.

By the way if you're at a watercooler and you're talking about Lawrence O'Donnell, you should slap yourself in the genitals.

I was going to respond, "Hey, Ace, did you?" but I see at least a half a dozen people already whacked that mole.

I took the advice, and quit reading at that point.

But, but, it's Ace at play! Since I have read the comments, I guess I'll go back and finish it. And then slap myself.

Its so confusing.

Just have to say, last night's ONT was amazing. Never dull, really sharp, and cutting-edge. Almost 500 comments on removing hair. Award-winning.

sliming a good man like Mark Fuhrman
____
$#!+ I hate this can of worms, but... I have an opinion!

Fuhrman's the kind of cop with deep personal flaws, overly authoritarian (can be a bully), but not a deeply evil man. In a crisis, a firefight, you'd be glad to have a cop like that on your side. Even with his supposed racist prejudice against mixed-race couples, I readily imagine him taking the side of an endangered mixed-race couple against creeps. Might have some great war stories he'd tell over a cold one. Not dishonorable.

But not wise. Fuhrman practically single-handedly destroyed the case. Handed to the defense on a silver platter. His unauthorized involvement, the spot of blood on the car no one else ever saw, his 'surprising' discovery of both bloody gloves, one at the scene, one behind OJ's, his history of problems with OJ, and a rep for evidence manipulation, pleading the Fifth... not hard to 'smear.' Bad as a witness, just part of a totes prosecutorial clusterfluke.

NB: Practically all I 'know' of him is from watching the trial, which I did up to where the prosecution rested. And having met his type in real life now and then.

News flash. Sun is rising. Fog hugs the pasture. Birds sing. Cars hum by on the road. On the front porch, my bare toes are slightly chilly. The Mrs snoozes peacefully. I have coffee, my faithful cat Charlie at my feet, and time to read some AoSHQ.

I've had worse moments.

Learned on a double edge. I don't have a real thick or tough beard, and as some1 said, always softened beforehand (learned from hot towels in barbershops in old movies) but I used one blade for several years, keeping the razor under a pyramid. Seriously. I only know it seemed to stay sharp. And I don't like dull.

Daughter was just telling me tonight of an acquaintance telling her how soon no one will drive cars and we'll all live in big cities. She was proud that when his extended tirade ended she just said, 'huh!'

"Story goes a school used to be on the site where the Community build stands now"

"Story goes"? How about a little real-world research? School's name was Garfield, built in 1909. It was my educational foundation. If there's a ghost, it's of the building itself, which should have been preserved. The rest is the echo of children playing and learning.
