Big slash of storm about to bite after dodging them all day. Currently a scary calm after much gusting. Spring in tornado alley.

Evening, morons, cobs, trolls, lurkers, and The Mysterious Ace. May the winds favor you. Except maybe the trolls.

Thought for a Sunday morning...

"Material necessity founded marriage, sex hunger embellished it, religion sanctioned and exalted it, the state demanded and regulated it, while in later times evolving love is beginning to justify and glorify marriage as the ancestor and creator of civilization's most useful and sublime institution, the home. And home building should be the center and essence of all educational effort."

Last night and again this morning, various sites loaded very slowly, never seemed to finish. Restarting the browser didn't help. So, I did what I've done for 30 years to improve a computer's performance. I was a little surprised that it actually seems to have worked on this iClone.

IQ - browser correlation: are we Opera fans smart or dumb - or as it seems when "major browsers" are listed, merely off-the-charts statistical anomalies?

Precisely put.

"The veteran police officer... [with] about 12 years of experience on the Nassau County police force and [who] previously spent several years as a New York City police officer"...

I do not criticize this poor cop - I wasn't there, and he's already dealing with his future - but I am reminded of criticisms I've read here about cop gun training and general discipline being frequently poor.

As ever, yeah, let's only let cops have guns and we can be that guy hiding behind the couch.

Thanks, Andy, for the inspiring topics to inspire conversation.

Sunday on the blog with George. It's pointillist to look too closely.

It's Sunday Morn

Waxing poetical this time of day takes special wax!

Good evening, rubber room candidates.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen Wild Bill mentioned on here. Surely I've just missed it? Seems like many folks here might appreciate his work. I've become a regular viewer.

Uncle Ed had marched across Europe, and was poised for the invasion of Japan in the summer of '45. He wrote it up in a private book.

When I was young, I never realized my cousins owed their very existence to The Bomb. And Uncle Ed is still around to enjoy his great- great-grandchildren.

"Thanks Dave in Texas. Your military posts always make me stop and reflect on the sheer human price paid by previous generations in defense of freedom. We stand in the shadow of giants." -Seamus Muldoon

Ah! That's what I found inexpressible. Thanks & well said, Seamus.

(I started out to tell a Caturday tail about the new cat, but this came out instead.)

Daughter was coming out to have breakfast with us yestermorn, when she stopped for a pair of stray dogs on the back highway. There are ways and rules for dealing with strays, but it's always dicey. Upshot is, with help of folks who stopped to help, she got them into the back of the pickup, and took them to the shelter. They were too weak to get in the bed by themselves, despite trying.

Abandoned, probably. The little b&w shepherd had a collar, no tag. Both had mange, ticks, bugbites, much evidence of neglect or having been loose a while. I'm guessing they, m & f, were separately abandoned and hooked up. The pit had scars that the shelter workers guessed meant he was dumped for not fighting - also massive cancers. They'll probably put him down; they have a great adoption program at our shelter, but they don't put pits up for adoption. The shepherd goes up for adoption in 5 days if unclaimed. Our dog (part German Shepherd, part pit!) has been lonely since our other dog died. Wish we could more easily say we could afford to adopt the shepherd.

Daughter was pretty devastated. Waiting with her for the shelter to open were a couple of frequent rescuers, bringing in five abandoned puppies. They helped comfort her, especially about the pit's fate. People can be so casually cruel!

But then, all but a couple of our many cats and dogs have been dumpees we adopted. So as I say, others' cruel acts become our joyous burdens.

"Another thing I notice is that many are so egotistical they will not ask questions for fear of looking stupid."

Oh, that's not Ego. That's Self-Esteem, in which they've no doubt all had much schooling. Another bit of edumicational improvement that was post my school days.

I deem that "they" have pretty much shown that option 1 is not going to be on the menu.

The small town 1950s-60s education I received was outstanding by today's standards, and has served me for over half a century, but I later realized, even then, the curriculum was being dumbed down.

They introduced us to "New Math" in 8th Grade. I got it because I had a great grounding in Olde Mathse, but even then I could see trouble for future students! I did not then realize, of course, that this was part of a larger program of indoctrination and subjugation; I just knew it was Worse.

After my schooldays, they started New Eengleesh. New "Civics" (PC rules), New Anti Euro History
