Okay, I'm taking the advice of that guy who said I should go to bed. You may return to your regularly scheduled repartee.

Good night, Gracies! And remember: A display of specialized skill does not signify possession of spiritual capacity. Cleverness is not a substitute for true character.

Bertram Cabot Jr.: I remember that from a few years ago over in wherever it was and a little kid said hey lets get the hell out of here just before the ocean came back and kicked ass!

Yeah, a Dutch family IIRC vacationing in Thailand, and the parents, stupidly wandering out onto the expanded beach, didn't know what the little girl was saying with "Tsunami!" Finally she said, "TIDAL WAVE!" and got their attention. And saved their lives.

st

Not just willful ignorance. Malice.

I dunno, Burt. Occam's suggests that without further evidence we ought not attribute to conscious malice what can be explained by rank ignorance, stupidity, and crass tastelessness. Because there's always those qualities in abundance.

It's hard to believe nobody involved spoke up to say, should we be doing this?

It reminded me of the commercial that the electronics store owners/crooks produced in the movie A Bug and a Bag of Weed. Crass, shallow, and especially cheap.

I'm glad to know the store got shut down before they could have their misbegotten sale, though! F' 'em.

Somebody tell that boring, stupid mindless webwanker guy to shut up and go to bed already. Man, am I tired of his incessant insipid comment surfeit. It's like commenting Tourette's. And those dumb videos of his stink, too. Some people should just not be allowed on the Internets. I'm sure the new owners of the Internet will take care of problems like that. Thank you, Preznit Obaughma.

Bertram Cabot Jr.: Life's a beach. Then the tide goes out.

Then the tide goes 'way 'way out and you realize it's just before the tsunami comes in. RUN FOR HIGH GROUND!

Get a chance to read whut I dun sentcha?

Jim, sorry, no. Thought about it several times today, while dealing with a day that was psychically akin to tornadoes and earthquakes. Tomorrow I should have a free moment or two. I have now pulled it up in a tab, so there's that.

I wish he had a chance.

I was going to write my congressman about this, but since he's a buddy of Cruz, I guess he'll be on the Right side of this... as if it mattered. I'll write him anyway. And my two useless Senators. (siiiigh)

Oh, yeah, Chi, about Tucker. Our dog Gimli was in town one day and bolted across the five-lane highway, nearly getting hit by a motorcycle. Milady was out with him and was properly terrified.

We think he got the idea, though, because even when he's been outside off the leash he has never ventured into the road again.

From the post: "for those times you think of splurging and skipping the val-u-rite brand."

What th...? Sounds like heresy to me!

Howdy, basket of deplorables!

Chi, I told you about the sunflower seed butter.

Except

(a) I was talking about buying the right (fresh, not rancid) seeds, shelled, not the butter itself because Milady makes ours - and

(b) although I said the better kind were from Wal-Mart, Milady later corrected me that WallyMall no longer carries our brand in favor of their inferiour own brand, land we get our seeds from the local grocery - formerly a Jewel, formerly an Albertson's, now the "Food Pyramid" - which we for convenience call the Food Cube, but they're available elsewhere.

The brand we get is "Good Sense," and I have no stock in that company and am not being reimbursed for the mention. (Hint hint to Good Sense company).

As Farmer (I think) mentioned, there are commercial brands of sunbutter. We prefer our home-made because we choose what oil to add, and salt to taste. And cost.

Have I compounded the confusion with all that tl;dr? If only I'd been on the food thread with all this. But, heck, I even missed the Pet Thread (again).

So, now to go read the ONT post, and then back to the bottom of the comments if I don't pass out first. It's been a wearying day.

Extra commas to be inserted in the above as needed: ,,,,,,

Not a criticism, just an observation about the difficulty of what you do: Often, when you blend characters, they're just shown in the same scene, only interacting by implication (through the dialog, or Avengers inside a globe, Justice Society looking in, things like that.)

This one has some well-contrived interaction with Tin and Platinum (aren't they?) and Iron Man. Nice work. You have a Kirby tag - is that really his Iron Man? I would not have guessed.

I always liked the Metal Men, even though I thought I shouldn't, because they were kinda silly. :)

Got to wondering if you'd ever had the Metal Men meet Magnus - another offbeat comic I liked - and I see, of course, you did, back in 2012.

Ironically, I am clicking the "I'm not a robot" checkbox - heh.

Jim, yup, found you in the junk pile. Told email program not to do that to you from now on. It's so sensitive.

And with that, leddies and germs, I'm going to drag myself to slumberland, as if I had things to do tomorrow. Which, after today's fiascos, I do, but I'm not all that sure what to do about them.

Good night, Gracies! Remember: Effort does not always produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent effort.

Jim, your email in nic is flonky (thinks it's an Ace URL) - but you can write me at webworker @ mindfulwebworks dot com. Actually, you can put just about anything before the @ and it'll get to me. Shhh. Don't tell anyone that.

I think maybe you're referring to Jim's reply which had an invasion of italicans.

A belated reply to Chi, on last night's ONT #356 re my saying I'd been dragging around a bogus URL in my nic: it was working yesterday or the day before when I clicked it MWW. You linked an old cartoon...

As the saying goes, that was zen this is tao. Changed up the link later, as I often do. For my art. You remember art link later?

Whew, it's tough taking care of old correspondence!

Jim: ...That right there, was a truly fine bit of reading, even if only a short paragraph's worth....

It's an inspiring Autumn storm.

Rain has started. Was a light but steady rain, now coming down more heavily. Thunder occasionally. Lovely, but the booms are kryptonite to my poor, sensitive canine friend.

I was never on a party line, but my brother was when he moved to rural Missouri - with the inevitable snoopy neighbor who was always listening in on everyone's calls.

My earliest experience with phones, as I've noted before, was voice-activated dialing. I picked up the handset on the dial-less desk set, the operator said, "Number, ple-ase?" and I recited my friend Tom's number because it was easy to remember: "Two Four Six." And it started ringing.

They should have just stapled one the posters to her forehead. Oh, but then, they'd be sued. Worth it.

Ricardo Kill: "...poop jokes and boob pics..." I thought those were the gems..........?

*smacks forehead* Of course! What was I thinking?

Thunder being heard now. Weather map shows there's a second front which has formed behind the first, and it looks like they're combining. We may be in for a classic Oklahoma storm. Or nothingburger, as has happened several times this summer.
