AoS commenters method... go o/t immediately, pile on 100s of comments, leave threads a salted earth wasteland, churn on to next thread. It's organic and natcherel.

That's my thinking, too, but then, that's why I live where most of the neighbors think likewise instead of, say, Boston. And bb bats... at least.

2016? You guys are cute. I'm not going anywhere. Not until I've made FDR's term look short. Here, have a toke. Relax and enjoy decades of glorious me me meeeeee.

Fed the pets, had a cup of coffee. Still can't figure out the post.

ONT crowd was too drunk to appreciate this, but I'm sure the classy morning crowd will. Went last night to see a performance by the civic ballet of La Bayadère (Act 3) among other pieces. It's supposed to be about murder and psychedelics and cool stuff like that, but all I saw them do was dance. I especially liked that one ballerina who looked like my daughter.

Mixed shouts of Bravo and Yee-Haww. Gotta love an Oklahoma culturefest.

Maybe after another cup the post will come into focus.

The problem with grinding the coffee in the evening is that I want a cup and have to wait 'til morning.

Thanks for letting me hang out among such steamed company.

Up to the 500's reading y'all's immortal verbiage.

BCochran1981, you're not fooling anybody socking that troll just to make yourself famous. You made the troll too lame to be believable. But your comebacks were worth it.

I used to know Chesterfield was a sofa. Google___ shows some mighty fancy Chesterfields.

As a kid, we still heard ice-box from the elders and used the term. I never saw a real one with ice delivery man until we were camping up in Washington.

"Fridge" was not short for "refrigerator"; it came from the popular brand "Frigidaire." Actual Internet-derived factoid.

And yeah I heard Hoovering too. (Also used in reference to what we now might call Fluking.) But I'm an armchair student of language, especially Anglo-American differences, due to, like, Beatles, the British Invasion, and maybe a high-school female English penpal. Who eventually dropped me after revealing she was years younger than she had claimed. Boot! Spanner! Lorry! Lift!

Bottom!

Things that, twenty years ago, I would not have thought I would find myself saying:

I really enjoyed tonight's performance by the civic ballet of La Bayadère (Act 3). It's supposed to be about murder and psychedelics and cool stuff like that, but all I saw them do was dance.

I especially liked that one ballerina who looked like my daughter.

The male guest artist sure had that anti-gravity chromosome - great hang time. You know why they give the male dancers solo bits in ballet? Because otherwise, they're just background, window dressing, and technical support. The guest ballerina was good, too. Never fell down once.

Well, hi-tone stuff is over. Fancy shoes kicked off. Unbuckling pants. Ready to look over tonight's ONT offerings.

(I know, I know, the new thread is up and the moron herd will be mooving on, but this is still the current open thread, until that one gets old, right?)

#PunishmentVsJustice

Okay, "cruel and unusual" is out. I'm for that. Our system is supposed to be about Justice, not vengeance. Even if the perp did commit rape and murder and attempted murder by shotgun, no drawing and quartering, no leaving the corpse to dangle from a rope in the town square (unsanitary). Vengeance is reserved to the Almighty Judges who know that which we cannot discern. Our mortal justice system should not be in the business of making the condemned suffer cruelly. Just eliminating the threat from our world, "letting God sort it out," as the saying goes.

Still, "pleasurable lethal cocktail" seems to be too far in the other direction, doesn't it?

"Wow!" the inmate exclaimed in a loud voice. "That is great. That is awesome! Thank you, warden! Thank you (expletive) warden!"

His head fell back on the pillow, and his neck twisted at an odd angle, with his mouth and eyes open.

It's just that anthropo. global effect is insignificant relative to everything else. It's science!

Even using the bogus numbers from the UN the impact of man is so small it is smaller than the measurement uncertainties associated with the instrumentation.

But the real fact is actual measured temperatures have been decreasing since 1998. i.e. no warming at all, much less "man-caused".

Q: When does a true scientist know he should ignore any potential effect of the sun's activity on earth's temperature?
A: When he's writing NOAA grant proposals!

To be scientifically accurate, we do indeed cause temps to change, in everything we do, worldwide. It's just that anthropo. global effect is insignificant relative to everything else. It's science!

"On this day in 1974 supposedly 10,000 people marched on Washington calling for the impeachment of Nixon."

Can't do that nowadays. It's 'cause the pot is 20 times stronger than back then, they tell me, or there'd be all kinds of marches calling for the whatsitcalled of whoshisface.
