First! ... of the rest of the comments.
Hi, y'all.
Every night, when I call on AoS for the ONT, I'm surprised to find that, since the morning news threads, there are multiple posts, often quite long, apparently generated by a barely-more sophisticated version of the old lacewigs spambot, and attributed to the fictional icon "Ace." One really long was apparently trying to hustle some book. I'd think the cobs would be on the watch for those.
¡Ja ja, amigos! Buenos nachoes!
1964, fam was in NY for the Fair when Dad's dad died unexpectedly, so our further tour of NYC was cut short.
1987? Mrs & I "accidentally" high bid on a charity raffle to go to NYC for some show called Blue Man Group. So we dropped the tykes on her mom & Mrs & I got to Do Manhattan. finally. I'm a small burb Okie son & would not have emerged alive, but Mrs is Chicago, and NYC cabbies figured her for a NY native. Which is to say we had a great time. Even saw the distant Liberty through fog. And Blue Man Group the original show.
That's as close to the E coast meet-ups as we'll get. Moar power to alla y'all!
Mrs & I do hope to take another vacation somewhere someday.
Okay, I'll start my day without Ben's headlines, then. Phooey. How will I know what in the world to be depressed about?
" Seems like I've seen that in a movie...guy stages own kidnapping, family doesn't give a shit, hilarity ensues."
Ransom of Red Chief
"almost-otherworldly beautiful Hedy Lamarr"
Had to stop reading right there. Shouldn't that be adverbized? Almost otherworldlyly, or almost otherworldishly?
ok, whew, got that out of my system. Now I can go read about her!
Yet another too-long didn't read complicated political-philosophic dissertation. Try to rein it in do the morons, there, Mr Malor!
Good morning, odd word patterns on my cell screen!
Fears of Dihydrogen Monoxide are overblown. Under controlled conditions, in reasonable quantities, it can actually be beneficial. See this research study: http://mindfulwebworks.com/tales/h2o.html
I blame the hysteria on Ben Carson's book "Silent Stream."
"An altercation ensued inside and shots were fired, leaving the unidentified man dead..."
Shots were fired. Presumably by those violent guns again, killing people.
Not to make light of what appears to be a serious pattern ofattacks, but the article wedged in the phrase
"white supremacist prison gang" from a not-yet-related case.
White supremacist prison gang
White supremacist prison gang
Majer Meedya's next big thang
White supremacist prison gang
sorry
Nic correct, already weak joke ruined. D@mn you autoincorrect!
Thanks, MPPPP for the Wonderful story about the priceless Mel Brooks.

Mel Brooks punchline in a cartoon about channeling.
Ebert's reviews in the Siskel-Ebert days told me whether I wanted to see a movie. His tastes were not mine, but I knew his, so it worked. Siskel not so much. Post-stroke, well, poor Roger. His best role was that brief appearance on an Early Edition.
Out to dinner one Sunday in Chicago, at the next table were Bill Curtis (then still Walter Jackobson's news partner) and Gene Siskel, with two outstanding women but, sadly, never mind the women. As we were leaving, I mock double-taked & exclaimed to my wife, "Look, honey! It's Walter Jacobson and Roger Ebert!"
I'd practiced that the whole meal and actually didn't blow the delivery. They appeared amused.
Being famous must be hell.
+many+ Italians.
also, should add, it was late 1960s.
Now that ev'one's mooved on to the next holding pen...
"...don't attack the women commenters for being women, the gay commenters for being gay, the ginger commenters for lacking souls, etc."
reminds me... wife tells the story of her HS school teacher nun telling a class, you don't call the Irish 'Micks,' you don't call the Poles 'Pollacks', and (in a class that's got ny Italians), "you don't call the Dagos 'Wops.'"
Wife's friend got sent to the office for correcting the nun.
On last night's ONT, I only made it to comment 154. But it was a good place to stop:
"It's obvious to sane people that folk who like ben Carson and Mia Love but dislike Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are basing their decisions on something *other* than race.
"But we're not dealing with sane people, are we?"
- Merovign
Such a simple, succinct summation, practically poetic in its implications.
Good morning, world.
MP4, like the stories... but... I'm still having a hard time living with the image of date rape bdsm Detective Joe Friday!
I just thought, if I kept watching it, maybe it would change to a good movie!
