Oh, yeah. Just remembered. Daughter coming by at 6am to have me drive her to The City. She's accompanying my mother to California for mom's baby brother's 95th birthday party.

Mom gets around the house okay, with the walker, but they've got a wheelchair for the airport long-hallway travel. I'm kind-of concerned. A nonagenerian in a wheelchair seems like hassle bait for the TSA pervs.

So, good night, Gracies. Thanks for being such interesting comment-content providers. And for the Downchild Blues and Alon Goldstein-Jesu links!

My first piano was a tinny upright for $100 from a junk store. I miss that thing. It had the honky-tonk sound my silly songs deserved.

Pot isn't more powerful now. Back mumbledy decades ago, I had Thai stick, Jamaican Red, Acupulco Gold. Just once, a single leaf - leaf! - of something called New Mexico Blue, which really was NM sky color - and it was like smoking black Afghani finger hash. But the Brazilian we got one time, in a deal that would make a great Cheech & Chong style movie, made all those other things seem like ditch weed.

So, it's just that good pot is more readily available. And if you're not acclimated to the good stuff, well, a room full of us passed out half-way through a bowl of Brazilian knows how you feel. I imagine I'd get floored pretty easily by plain old Columbian or Mexican nowadays.

Ah, the early '70s. Oops. That is statute of limitations years ago now, right?

The (automatic transmission) van was in the shop for several days, so we were driving the (manual) truck, usually only used for 'round the farm chores. When I got back in the van, it was so weird at first to not have anything for my left foot to do, and I'd keep reaching for the gear shift as if I needed to.

Other than the tractor on the farm when I was a kid, the first manual trans I used was on a 4x4 flatbed at the highschool summer park maintenance job. The old thing was so worn, you didn't even need the clutch to shift from 1st to 2nd.

Oh, I stopped to read the content
And follow many links
And now I want a sandwich
Or so my body thinks

I had some thoughts while reading
But they were dull and mild
Like I wonder what ice cream cones
Looked like back in the wild

Then I composed this drivel,
Struggled to make it rhyme
While so many comments were posted
in the meantime.

Random thoughts don't really count as thoughts unless posed as questions, do they?

I won't be here long, but what I lack in quantity I make up for in quirkitude.

Just as I get ready to finally post a morning comment, Ace rolls in. Figures. I'll comment anyway.

Notice that it took over 200 comments before someone came out with "Boaty McBoatface." I think the horde is getting old and slow.

My suggestion: Half Mast (Okay, sounded funnier in my head.)

Only time this landlubber went sailing was at summer camp when I was 13. Captain Counselor managed to snap the mast and we had to be towed to land. Strangely enough, it was right there over at the girls' camp...!

Heh. Ever seen the vids of petitions to ban that dangerous chemical? Folks would sign to remove oxygen from the atmosphere, if you did it right!

I haven't recorded this song (yet), but I wrote it at least as long ago as 1997.

Seriously (seriously?) ...

Cthulhu, randomly and out of nowhere... get the f out of Califailure *now* and haul your+fiancee's a$$e$ over here to Oklahoma.

SE OK where creeper is moving if you must; NE where Sherry McEvil
and I haunt; OKC as a last resort where Capt Whitebread spins the
platters, and I forget who else but they're all (else me) great Morons.

It's not that Oklahoma is that great, you know, vis a vis, say,
Texas. It's that Oklahoma needs YOU! (And the tech industries in the
state surely have some job you could do.)

That's my attempt at influencing your course, fully aware of the
sage advice about being responsible for someone's fate if they take your
suggestion.

It's the talk rumming, I swear.

It's all the fiancee. I'm ready to leave this state and start a half-dozen new businesses. I can't do 'em here because I've got shit stacked on shit stacked on shit and need room to organize and work; and I won't do 'em here because I've got regulation stacked on cost stacked on taxes stacked on bullshit.

And, sad to say, I'm likely not going to Oklahoma despite my maternal grandma hailing from there because of The Wizard of Oz. And lack of elevation. And National Tornado risk maps. And lack of airports and med schools.

qdpsteve #491: mindful webworker, is Nicole Parker back on the new MadTV?...

* racking rum-soaked brain to remember who was the old series guest on episode #1 *

I don't think so. Not yet that I've seen. Haven't watched episodes 3 and 4 yet, tho.

Gonna give the revived series some time to knock off the rough edges. The old series was well done, good cast, and hard rep to live up to. Definitely knew how to cut a sketch short, which Sat Night Live never did. Some terrible recurring characters, though (as with ep #2's "classic" sketch of the guy playing the retarded adult).

#2 had Bobby (the Asian guy) having been locked in a closet since the last series ended - funny concept.

Watched the 2nd episode of the revived MadTV series tonight.

They lean too heavily on guest appearances of stars from, and clips from, the old series. Not getting to know the new cast well enough.

But the skit of the student-produced series "Safe Spaces" was worth the price of admission.
