It's that time of the year when I think about my Uncle Ed, who had just lived through a trudge across Europe, and then was being prepared for the assault upon Japan, where his (and so many soldiers') life expectancy was near nil. The invasion that didn't happen.

Ed will celebrate his 95th birthday this year over Labor Day weekend, surrounded by multiple generations of descendants.

Thank you, Colonel Tibbets & company!

Seamus Muldoon: Heh! Nicely done!

Thanks. It was fun, in a sad, masochistic sort of way.

Did you see the judges ruling on your limerick in the last thread (#250)?

We hold this stuff to be evident, that all persons other than white males are created collective; that they are enabled by their victimhood with certain inevitable privileges; that among these are food, housing, and the pursuit of grievances. -- That to secure these reparations, Governments are manipulated by progressives, deriving their justifying powers from the complaints of the aggrieved, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes inadequately responsive to these demands, it is the purpose of the elite to whine and wheedle, and to force new Government regulation, laying its foundation on such ideas and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their getting whatever they want....

Seamus Muldoon #238: A Competitive Advantage in the New Millenium- a limerick

The judges have decided not to take off points for the extra beat in the 3rd line, because of the difficulty level for the rhymed words in the 1st, 2nd, and last lines.

*applause*

Oh, look, it's morning!

No pet thread? Well, guess I ought to feed the pets, then.

Didja ever notice that the difference between a pet and a poet is an o?

Hey, you guys, anyone remember a while back when some guy with a weird name used to do these ONTs? Marksalot or something like that. Don't know why I got to thinking about him today. Oh, well *shrugs* moving on.

We don't allow Flash around our house. Any chance this can be found on YouTube or elsewhere?

Checked back in and you know what? I just don't think my mind is working well enough tonight to participate in a discussion of using chopsticks to unlock a car.

So...

Good night, Gracies.

publius: ...One time I used one, and my right hand and forearm became almost unusable for hours afterwards. Tingling all over, and the tendons got inflamed....

I used to have that all the time. Then I found out about Acme™ Vibration-dampening work gloves by Dolby®.

Or was it that I hired a gardener to do the weed-eating? One or the other.

cthulhu #121 Howdy, y'all!!!

I'm so glad you're here! Someone has kidnapped Maet and has hijacked his blog privileges to post kitten pix. We need expert hacker-stopping help. Or elder god intervention. Something.

Okay, y'all, let's pitch in and do the work Maet isn't doing.

Quote of the Day #1
"I nearly shit a brick when I learned about the report that Barack Obama paid a ransom of four hundred million dollars to get our Americans released by Iran.... This was done by the man who just yesterday arrogantly declared Donald Trump unfit to be President and Commander-in-Chief...."

I just trust that Maet is enjoying his staycation.

Expert Florida police work:

"I recognized, through my eleven years of training and experience as a law enforcement officer, the substance to be some sort of narcotic," the report said....

"I kept telling them, 'That's ... glaze from a doughnut. ... They tried to say it was crack cocaine at first, then they said, 'No, it's meth, crystal meth,'" he told the newspaper.
