RioBravo: And for a daily dose of weirdness (don't call them pets!):

Academics always know best, don't they?!?

With all the pets we've had over the decades, not one has ever objected to being called a pet. All really like to be petted, as well. It fits.

I always try to avoid commenting on tech probs like the now-fixed centering, because once the prob is fixed, all the comments about it seem so... weird.

Charlie cat came in a while ago, meowing loudly as he often does, but keeps meowing, and then I hear, mixed with his meows, a desperate squeaking. He's brought in a good-sized field mouse.

Experience has taught me, cats can't be conduced to take their prizes back outside, so I grab a plastic cup and manage to get it over the mouse just as Charlie sets it free. I throw the poor critter out, and show Charlie where it is - sorry, mouse, but you were probably fang-poisoned or otherwise doomed already anyway. Darwin is cruel.

Always wonder if cats share those trophies with us because we are, obviously, too poor as hunters to ever provide fresh meat.

Got up this morning, opened the door. Ol' Gimli the pooch gets off his divan and wanders out. He gives a strong shivering shake, just as I reach down to pat his hind end, and his back end seems to fail, and he goes down in a way that would be comical if he weren't getting so on in years.

But, he picked himself up, drank a bunch of water, and ran off, apparently just fine. I attribute it to unreadiness while shaking, stiffness, possibly a leg "asleep," after a long night - until I see other evidence of problems. I'm in similar condition in the morning.

Three pet tails from this week, two from today.

1.

Night before last, early dawning really, Milady hears the old gray cat, Spark, whining to be let out. She lets him out, goes back to bed. Later, when I get up, he's not around, and doesn't show up all morning. Since he's usually a steady porch-sitter, and on-time for every meal, that was worrisome. But, when we got home in the evening, there he was. Jus' fine.

When they get older, or don't follow usual habits, it can be worrying. From eagles and owls to raccoons and coyotes, there's a lot out there to nab a kitteh. But, our foursome seems to survive. (The dog being out a lot to ward off predators helps a lot, I'm sure.)

cthulhu: There is an analog in politics -- if you can convince the subconscious mind (e.g. that Clinton stands with the black people she so obviously holds in contempt), then any conscious facts (national security, record of failure) are discounted.

Welll, I'm not sure about the equivalency of the placebo effect with, basically, prejudicial brainwashing. Placebo effects - weirdly enough - can be lastingly real, whereas cult effects end up being painful, once you wake up.

A relative who was in the Divine Light cult for a while said, "I had more bad trips on [his guru] than I had on all the acid trips I ever took." Heh.

There was a Ted talk about brains working in harmony and it touched on how a prejudicial introduction will completely change the way a transmission is received (disharmony).

Uhh.. lessee... my Jun 18 ONT comment about this

Thank your angels for protecting you from the demons and for putting up with your own... uh... well... that's between you and them.

Good night, Gracies.

gekkobear: ...Placebos work even WHEN you tell people they're taking a placebo, explain what a placebo is,. then have them take it....

I think this is why I find homeopathic remedies so effective.

This week I started taking one for my joint pains, which pains had been going on for many weeks. I'd tried different remedies at different potencies - but I didn't get any relief until I took a dose of potency called 50M -

which I think means it's so dilute there's the equivalent of one molecule in all the waters on all the planets in creation.

I know what the critics calculate. Yet, it seems to work. (Flexes shoulders without pain, smiles)

rickl: There are no blue or red states; there are blue or red counties. And lots of purple ones.

While allowing that Republican Constitutional conservative, I would note that in the last Presidential election - IIRC - Oklahoma was the only state in the nation where every county went GOP.

Some counties more genuinely Con con than others, of course (looking askance at Oklahoma and Tulsa counties).

That's my 2¢ jumping in here randomly.

We just had to replace the starter on our van. Best we could recall, this is the first time we've done so on that van. But we sure have replaced a lot of starters over the years.

Ah, supper is served. BBL.

It's INDEPENDENCE DAY..... Not the 4th of July.

Oh... I see someone's already made that point.

Well, but, it is the 4th of July, as a date...

Howdy, moronic horde. Head held high. Smile and put fear. All that stuff.

Pete, I'm a-gonna add "gout" to my description of my condition of late, which I've been calling rheumatoid-arthritis bursitis neuritis neuralgia nostalgia lumbago laredo. I figure that covers all the bases. Doing better this week, though, so, not complaining; full of gratitudinousness.

Tell me, what's the news on Tyler? I've lost track.

And, since I'm here, God, Jesus, Spirit, bless our sister Chrissy with utter healing. That's my prayer. And blessings for Pete while we're at it.

Whew! I was afraid these were going to be those bicephalic mutants that nature sometimes produces. Much cuter.

Although, I'm not sure about the cat in the last picture...

Saddened to hear about the little kitten. It's strange, in a way, that with all there is in the world, a little kitty I only read about on a blog means so much, but that's how it is. God bless you and your family, two- and four-footed.

Well, I made it 17 minutes into this one before I had to stop and check "how much longer are they going on?" I mean, it's not like you're Intellectual Froglegs with joking and dancing and music and fast cuts - you're just three talking heads. I will watch the rest, soon. Probably. But had to take a YTAD break (YouTube Attention Disorder).

But what I really wanted to say is, since you started Right Angle, I've noticed you guys are always on Casual Friday mode. So, it was nice to see Scotty return to wearing a tie. Now if Bill and Steve will just shape up and look respectable. Also, Bill, did you just take off a hat or have you switched to Trey Gowdy's barber?

:D Keep on keeping on, Gents!
