Took Art 100 class first year in college. Although I'd been self-taught artist-cartoonist for most of my life, I'd never had an art class and thought I'd start with 100 to see what basics they taught. Ooops. It was Art Credit for Physics and English Majors and there wasn't much actually being taught. (I think I flunked the course. )

However, we had nekkid live models a couple of times.

The pretty young gal was fun to be in the room with. But meh to draw, actually, compared to...

the fat, middle-aged gal, who had plainly lost a lot of weight and was all wrinkles and rolls. She was both a lot more fun to try to capture in sketches and an inspiration insofar as she was willing to model just how she looked.

Morning, Glories!

On modifying the story to suit the ChiComs. I saw the series' 1st season, hadn't read the book. Interesting.

What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

Alberta Oil Peon: ...No ticks here in Alberta, but the mosquitos are out...

So, are those the giant hawk-sized northern mosquitoes, infamous from Wisconsin to Alaska?

Bugs God intended: Butterflies, ladybugs, pillbugs, dragonflies, lightning bugs...

Bugs Satan corrupted: Ticks, mosquitoes, fire ants, head lice, cockroaches...

Spare a prayer for our successful negotiations.

I pray that when it's all said and done, you owe nothing more than you hope. Or better yet, nothing at all.

And on that note, I must call it a night. Take care all.

Dang. Just picked a tick off me, crawling toward my armpit. Felt one earlier tonight, crawling crothward up my leg. We have a "tick jar" where we drop them into a pool of alcohol. Gets pretty ugly after a while. Wrapping in scotchtape is the alternative. Dang, I hate ticks.

Speaking of disease-spreading bloodsuckers, Milady and I have to go talk to a county tax man tomorrow about something expensive and past due; not looking forward to it. Spare a prayer for our successful negotiations.

rhomboid #555: Thanks for the "executive summary." Good enough.

...tedious sniping at the GOP prez nominee was good enough in 2008, so it's OK for 2016.

There's so much to be critical about with the presumptive GOP candidate, I can never understand the high regard some have for him... but all such criticism has to be followed with, "but, then, there's Hillary."

God help us, the form of the Destroyer is not what we imagined, but it never is. Cross the streams!

Less long, more often!

Home was right where we left it. Be it ever so humiliating, there's no place like. (Kicks off shoes.)

publius - glad you're continuing to report on your mom's condition, even when it's - not so pretty. Prayers and care continues.

Better bowel back-ups than mind clogs, and especially glad to hear things... worked out. Perhaps her shock-induced amnesia will allow her to not recall the worst of this latest development.

Cthu - chocolates seems like a nice tip. But... something about sending a box of chocolates in gratitude for excrement-handling just doesn't seem right... (Sorry for $#!++y joke. It's tired and I'm late.)

...when people talked about the future year 2016 when I was a kid...

Yeah, but the sad reality is... that couch the couple is lounging on? Uncomfortable in any position. Even for sex.

Also, the poolside pinball game doesn't give replays.

Howdy, overnightly neighbors! Don't let the crap gitcha down. It takes some effort but it scrubs off.

If you'll excuse my linking to another site, when it comes to great critter pix, Claudia at IOTW Report is the only comparable collector of bluebird's artistic prowess. Thought you'd enjoy her Happy Father's Day selections.

Wow. Strip Polka.

I'm going to go 'way out on a limb here and guess the Andrews Sisters never did that one on Lawrence Welk.

Milady and I had a nice dinner with our daughter and my Mom for Father's Day. I guess the honoree was me. Ordered in Indian food (dot, not feather). Good stuff. Wine, swimming, driving has caught up to me, though. Time to log off.

Fear not.

The Sheriff Andy clip enticed me to go check out the article on TV dads. Other than Andy, I recognized most of the shows, and have never watched any of them. But, I'm ollllld. *creak* *groan* *wince*

Surely there are some others. Father Knows Best? Ozzie Nelson? My Three Sons? Ward Cleaver? Danny Thomas, even? Uh... Wow. I felt old before...

I guess that Bill Cosby doctor dad character won't be on anybody's list now? (Never watched that, either.)

Howdy, y'all.

Darned if all three of my tykes (grown adult tykes) didn't send me a Happy Father's Day text today, after all!

No necktie, though.

'Scuse me while I check the post now.

It does seem folks will shell out for print, or even an e-book, but if it's just some story on a website with a donation button, not so readily.

--

Mindful, yes, people would rather pay than donate. It's human nature.
To me a book is something you can read offline if you want.
If you can get it in a downloadable format, I would consider it a book.
Which I know is work, so if you do that, you might as well sell it on a free site like smashwords, if not Amazon.
But you bring up a good point and I will discuss it in a post (with a link to your site)

@votermom #285, two weeks ago: Mindful webworker, I am not a good judge of graphic novels, but if you decide to publish we will definitely add it to the AoSHQ list of books.

As weirdflunky noted, it's not really a graphic novel, although that was the format I had in mind when I started. The cartoons are just the introduction to the text. A format sure to throw off fans of both media!!

@votermom #45, above: You were asking if you should publish it, as I recall.

Wellll, daughter (who has been helping her ballet mentors get books edited, set up, and published) has suggested I consider the self-pub hardcopy route. That sounds like work, though.

Funny thing is, it is published.

It does seem folks will shell out for print, or even an e-book, but if it's just some story on a website with a donation button, not so readily. Nor would it be considered a "book" such as O'Muse or @votermom might list. And no Amazon reviews or stars. Just another webpage, which we all are used to being "free," right?

That's what I've pondered for twenty years of humble web self-publication. Of course, since I eschew advertising and paywalls, and don't promote myself much (or well), no surprise that I'm not making a living at it. (Understatement of the millennium.)

For fun, here's a short-lived daily comic I attempted back in 1996 which pondered digital-age creativity:

Sabrina Chase: People with no books at all in their homes cannot be trusted. How else can you surreptitiously get a sense of their minds by scanning the shelves? What books they have, how they are organized...

But you do get a sense of their minds... empty...
