Not always, but, yes "only necessary for good men to do nothing" means evil often wins the battles; it will, ultimately, lose the war, practically by definition: darkness ends at dawn.

Learning faith and goodness often makes people inordinately naive and gullible. Not for nothing did a very wise guy warn his followers should be as sharp as the wolves while being gentle as lambs. By "become as a little child," I expect that teacher - whose rapier wit delighted the commoners while confounding the 'wise' - did not mean, become dumb and forget everything you've learned about contrary human nature.

Enlightenment also often seems to suck the creative fire out of folks. Before, the anguish of lonely mortal tribulation; after, happy cosmic thoughts and puppies. Haven't come to the old rugged crossroads yet.

Reviewing previous paragraph filled with cell-truncated single-finger weariness, rates maybe a 4 on the Sven incomprehensibility scale?
