Folks like Hopper, Cage, Jim Carrey

Folks like Hopper, Cage, Jim Carrey, they always seem to be playing themselves, or, at least, the same character. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't because you're sitting there thinking about the actor not the character.

Bill Murray always plays the same character and it always works. How is that?
